| She won't stop scratching! Okay, I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right forum but here goes... Me and my little Marley were at my friends house, in the yard, waiting for her to get there yesterday and I happen to notice that my jeans, feet and MARLEY were covered in fleas! I could not believe the amount of them, I freaked out! I immediately called Marley's vet and explained that they had just put the Advantage Multi on her around 4 weeks ago and that she had not had one flea until now and that there was like 50 on her! They told me to bring her in and they gave her a pill that would kill them within 30 minutes, they also gave me another dose of Advantage Multi to put on her later. I waited around 30 minutes and the fleas were NOT going away! I called Pet Smart because my friend said they could do a "flea dip", well, there was no one there to do it! I asked the guy what he recommended and he said to take Dawn dish washing liquid and put a ring of it around her neck (so the fleas couldn't go to her head) and they cover the rest of her body with it and leave on for 3 to 5 minutes! Well IT WORKED! It killed them all! She doesn't have a flea on her! So the problem now is that all she did last night was scratch, scratch and scratch! When I woke up this morning I gave her another bath in the Vet Solutions Aloe and Oatmeal shampoo and made sure that I got all the soap off her! She is still scratching! I don't know what to do! I've checked and checked, there are NO FLEAS! What can I do? I have given her a fourth of a Benadryl but it doesn't seem to help! I'm sorry for the long post but I figured I should give every detail so I could get the best possible suggestion to help! Thank you! Last edited by keova1; 06-23-2009 at 06:28 PM. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry you both are going through fleas. I hate them. It could be she has an allergy to the flea bites. I had a male that had this and he was miserable, this was way before they had all the flea preventatives. Also all the washing could have dried out her skin. So hopefully after a few days she will stop itching. You may need to call the vet to give you something if she keeps scratching.

| Thanks for your input. I decided to just wait it out and see if she was better by today and it didn't end up being that way. She still itched/scratched all night long. I ended up taking her to the vet a little while ago and come to find out my little Marley has some sort of infection from all the flea bites and then scratching them. I feel so bad for her! They gave her 2 different medicines that should take care of it rather quickly, thank goodness for that! The only good thing that I found out today is that she is FLEA FREE! I want you guys to know that this is the FIRST time I've ever had to deal with fleas for my little Marley and it just kills me! I hate them, what purpose do they have! The Advantage Multi has been used on her ever since she was old enough to have it, I had never seen a flea on her until that day! Is there another flea prevention medicine better that Advantage? Please let me know if I should continue with it or change to something else! |
