Hello everyone! I have been reading your posts on neutering...just wondering how effective is a onesie for stopping licking....I will be working for almost 8 hours a day....can I leave my little guy with a onsie or should I just do the dreaded e-coller....he just got fixed today and is doing well...just wondering about that. Also how long to wait for a bath....I forgot to ask the vet....thanks all!

This is what I did with a onsie when Roxy was spayed recently.
I got the Gerber Onsies at Walmart... pkg of 5. Ones that snap in the crotch w/no legs in them - a [COLOR=green! important][COLOR=green! important]pullover[/COLOR][/COLOR] style. Put the Onsie on backwards so that the front of the [COLOR=green! important][COLOR=green! important]shirt[/COLOR][/COLOR] is on her back. But first cut directly below the snaps on the back side a hole large enough to allow her to pee/poop. Cut the hole just long enough to clear the way to potty. Place & snap the onsie just before the tail. She should do very well with this. [COLOR=green! important][COLOR=green! important]Roxy[/COLOR][/COLOR] never did end up peeing or pooping on the onsie.

Roxy is 6.7 lbs & about 11" long from the neck to front of the tail. I had to get her the 8-12 lb size onsie for her. Others have been able to use the premie or newborn size. Depends on size/length of your dog. Roxy didn't even know she had stitches. The onsie has worked like a [COLOR=green! important][COLOR=green! important]charm[/COLOR][/COLOR]. If weather had gotten warmer I would have cut a few circles in various places in the shirt part for a little more ventilation, but it didn't get that warm. You could also cut the [COLOR=green! important][COLOR=green! important]sleeves[/COLOR][/COLOR] off too. The onsie was loose enough there was air flow in the belly area. Thanks to whoever suggested the onsie! LUV it & so did the vet! She had never seen this idea before.

Granted this was for a female, but you may be able to cut a different version of this for your male. The onsie was sure a better option than the collar. Some people didn't make any cuts & just unsnapped to let them potty, then resnapped when done. Not practical in your case with working.

I have used onesies before - I just removed them for potty reasons. But I was at home with them for that first week.

I recently went through an emergency spay on one of my silkies and we received a flexible e-collar - and it really worked really well. I was not aware that they even made anything but those hard plastic e-collars - so when they brought her out with this soft/flexible e-collar I was surprised. The only issue we ran into was it knotted her coat - so I had to brush her out at least twice a day.

Good luck finding a solution that works for you and your pup.

So...I have been using a onsie for when I am around but can't keep my eye on him....and a plastic cone during the day while I am at work. I tried to look for a soft cone but none of the stores carried them. I bout this inflatable one but it was bad...it wouldn't stay inflated (maybe it was falty) and I really felt like it was a hazard a dangerous....my pup kept on getting his mouth under the strap it had and pulling....I could just picture a horrible accident...so I am returning. What is different about the cone I have now is it is sized for him....small not huge what i got from vet and so it is not that bad! Anyway thanks all for the responses!

can they still get into their crate with the collar on?
their space in the crate is just big enough for them to stand up and turn around.

NO they cannot get into their crate with the collar....which is the bummer. I keep my guy in the kitchen with a baby gate...his crate is in there....but you are right he cannot get in. what I do is I put a giant blankie or towel right next to the crate and he sleeps on that while I'm out....The only reason I don't leave him with the onsie all day is because he still uses the pee potty during the day....at night, he sleeps through, and never has accidents, so I put the onsie on and it really is great....I followed what one of the yorkiers wrote me and put it on backwards, and made a hole for the tail...I think he even may like it!
