Please read!!!! Collars :(The reason I am posting this, is I would have never thought about this happening. My Kingsley and Zoey were playing on the couch as usual. All of a sudden they started crying in pain. Zoey had her bottom jaw under Kingsley's collar, and he had turned over and was going crazy trying to get her loose. Well with that being said it was chocking him.:eek::eek: By the time I got back with the scissors to cut the collar, my lil Kingsley was gone...:cry::cry::cry: I was in the kitchen floor crying my eyes out... My boyfriend who did not want any lap dogs walked up behind me and laid Kingsley's little head on my shoulder, and he begin to give me sugars... Eddie loved that lil "lap" dog and was not gonna give up on him, he gave him mouth to snout and brought our lil man back.. :D I no longer let them wear their collars unless they are going outside. I never thought that could have happened... PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!!! If it had not been for Eddie I would not have my Kingsley or my new lil man. I panicked!!! |
Wow! Sounds like your boyfriend did some FAST thinking!!! Glad it all turned out okay!!! Give Kingsley extra hugs today, oh and Eddie too! |
Trust me Kingsley gets lots of love!!!! Oh Eddie gets a little love.. j/k |
ow my, this has always been my biggest fear, cash is staying with my dad this weekend and I am struggling with wearing or not wearing a collars, I dont think my dad would remember to put it on him to go outside, I dont want him to get lost. |
Oh, I'm so glad everyone is alright! My heart was racing while I read this. |

I was in tears before the end of the post and then when I read about your amazing BF, I really was in tears! Hugs and Kisses all around!! |
OMG! Me too....the tears were welling up and then YEAH! Your BF saves the day. Oh, I am so glad this ended up with tears of joy instead! Sophie wears a collar too, in the house. Perhaps I should consider removing it also except when she goes out to potty. |
Wow....what a scare that was! I am so happy to hear that your little one made it...Thank God your boyfriend was there to help! I have to rethink my collars too, i guess. I only use them for tags...but your story is real scary. Happy that it had a happy ending for you!:D |
OMG how scary. Your BF is a hero!!! |
Oh my goodness. Your bf deserves a great big steak dinner. He is a hero for sure. His quick thinking and calm approach saved your baby. :woof:He is a keeper in my book. Give your babies and your bf a great big hug from Coco, Pebbles and Trixie :ghug: |
OMG your boyfriend is the hero of the day. Wow when I was reading your post I was thinking..oh man not another poor baby gone..but yeah!! a happy ending but a scary thing to happen. Izzy wears no collars in the house and only the choke free when outside. I do have one collar that we had to have for therapy training but that was it. So happy all ended well.:D |
I tell my new families when taking home a pup.....No collars....they can get hung up on anything, let alone the possibility of contributing to collapsed trachea. Use a harness when taking them for a walk, their tags can be placed on the D ring. Another thing to consider, and we ladies have all done this. Drying our bras on the door knob. I have a friend whose lil yorkie hung itself on the bra. The outcome was a not a good one as yours was. So, glad your boyfriend was a quick thinker and new what to do. |

And I am VERY thankful that Eddie was there. He did stay calm. Something I need to learn how to do. I completly lost it when his little head fell and his tongue was hanging out. I guess he was like that about three min. It felt like a life time..I could not handle it at all. To watch my big man die right in front of me.. I cannot explain the feeling I had when Eddie laid his little head on my shoulder and Kingsley gave me sugars, they were weak, but he was trying so hard to show me he was going to be ok.. Kingsley always knows when something is wrong with one of us:) It took him about two days to get it all back together. Thank you all for the comments!! I hope that This may save someone else from the heartache that I went thru. |
Omg, My heart suck when I strated reading your post, but I felt better after I continued to read the outcome:)..Thank goodness your bf acted quickly, I am so glad your little ones are okay! |
 OMGosh! How scary and thank God for that man of yours! I am like you and freak out. So hard to stay calm in those kind of situation. I have never put a collar on my babies. They wear harnesses ONLY and then only when we are outside or going somewhere. I have to say though that I have had that policy not because I ever dreamed that anything like that could happen but because I was concerned about collapsed trach. So glad your babies are ok, did you take him to a vet to get checked out? Hugs for you all! :) |
OMG:eek: Thank God your BF came in. i too, had tears as I was reading. i love a happy ending. |

Glad everything worked out. Several important reminders, don't use collars, only use harness, and learn how to give CPR, or have a smart BF. :D |

Whoa!! That might be one of the best stories on here. I'm glad everything turned out ok. |
OH MY, I was so in tears before I got to the end of your post. I am so glad your boyfriend was able to save your little boy. I would have freaked out too. I am so happy your story had a happy ending. And thanks for sharing. I always leave laya's collar on, but now I will not. She is microchipped in case she gets out. I just never even thought about something like this happening. |
When my Max fell off of the couch, he got his poor front leg caught in his collar and broke his leg. Since that time, none of my pets wear collars in the house. It just isn't worth the chance of an accident. |
Thank God your babies are ok.:clapsmile |
OMG!! PLEASE LISTEN TO ME!!! NO MORE COLLARS ON YORKIES!! I have never put a collar on my Mari but she has a SEVERE collapsed trachia. If you don't know anything about this condition, and think it's no big deal, think again. Seriously, I don't know why she is still alive. This condition is horrible. My Mari, is just 4 yrs old has had this condition for going on 2 years. I don't know how it happened, but she is very lucky to be alive. The honking like a duck when she can't breath. The drugs, the watching her tounge turn blue, the worrying if she will be alive in the morning, the constant worry what will trigger it. (Heat, barking, any excitement, etc) I know it is so hard on her little heart breathing so shallow, so weak that she can't take a step. Mari is only a little over 4#. She is a beauty. I honestly didn't believe that she would live until this past Christmas, but for some reason her breathing finally started to get a little better. She has to be monitored constantly to make sure she doesn't get to excited for fear she will not come out of the hard breathing. Her last and LONG episode lasted from mid July until the end of the first week of Dec. The vet was sure she would die soon because that hard breathing was so hard on her heart. It was just heartbreaking. As I said it was not a collar that did this to her. My previous little girl always wore a collar away from the house, no problem. It wasn't until Mari ended up with this that the vet asked if she wore a collar. I had recieved this cute halter when I got her and only have used it, so it wasn't that. I am so sorry to have rattled on, but it is a very sensitive subject to me. I had also heard from previous people about jaws getting locked in collars. Cathe |
How terrifying! Thank goodness your BF had the quick thinking to give your little one m-to-m!! That man is a keeper! I was really glad to hear that next line where you said Eddie brought him back. I was feeling so bad for you thinking he was gone. So glad to hear everything turned out well. That is the second time I have heard a story where two dogs got hooked up with their collars and had an emergency. I think your warning is a good one to hear! |
omg how freaking scary for you.. I thought for sure you had lost your baby.. and what a guy you have..I do not even like to wear harness around the house daily.. for I have had an issue with that also..and then a dog panic's and makes is almost impossible for you to help them out..That is why a microchip is such a great thing to have.. anne |
Wow....what a story. Im so glad everything turned out so well for you:). Kind of a coincidence that today I put a collar on my new baby, and I left and come home and I noticed she was chewing on something and I bent down to pick her up and she had somehow worked the collar into her mouth and it was caught in her jaw and she couldn't even hold her head straight, nor could she even cry because she was in a terrible position:(. Thank goodness I came home and my DH was able to cut it off of her while I held her. Needless to say no more colllars for us. :) |
Has anyone tried using cat collars that have the quick release? Would those be a better option for having a collar on all the time? I do use a harness for both of my small dogs when we go on walks. |
I used a cat collar on both of my Yorkies, but my Max still managed to break his leg when he fell and his leg went through the collar. |
