You have to be in shock right now, I'm sure. HUGS Brooke! I'm so so sorry that you & Tate are having to go through all this. She has been such a fighter through it all. She doesn't deserve this. Well, bless her heart, she was trying to tell you that her little tooth was uncomfortable with the teeth grinding, huh? Won't the Vet have to wait until her chest infection clears before going under anesthesia for tooth extraction??
I'm hoping & praying that she will not need tracheal surgery. One step at a time. He wasn't certain, so try to think positive. I know it's hard & feels overwhelming. Prayers for Tatum & strength for you too.:ghug:

Im so sorry hun (HUGS) I know what you mean about the money. I have put so much in my two Yorkies then I have any other pet we have owned. Mickeys had two surgerys and so many vet visits before those 2 surgerys. and Minnie was my healthy one and then bang we ended up losing her. life sucks some times.
Im keeping your little one in my prayers shes been through so much and so have you.

erickajm 06-15-2009 09:27 PM

I can't believe what I am reading! How horrible for all of you Brooke! I know your head is spinning right now with all the new news but I am just wondering if Tatum was supposed to have her baby teeth taken out then wouldn't that fall back on the Vet? I know even that thought isn't enough to make it better. I am just thinking that would be one thing that in my opinion wouldn't be your financial obligation since it was vets error.?

My heart is going out to you. I have only had one instance that I had to rush one of mine to the vets because he had gotten into something. I am not sure what I would do in your position... chances are, probably break down and sob! My prayers are going out to you and Tatum.. Big hugs!

So sorry for all that you and little Tatum are going through at the moment. Thinking of you  xxx xxx

Tooth

Well if she's 3 1/2 she's probably about do for a cleaning, so they can do it all at once. And they normally do, but you should ask just to make sure. And you need to ask them to check her anals while she's in there. Baby teeth don't normally cause enough pain to cause her symptoms unless it's infected. They usually only have pain when the adult teeth are coming in, and that's not the case here. And definitely no anesthesia till the chest infection clears up.

becky k 06-15-2009 10:16 PM

well ive been following this thread and was just about to ask if she could be having some type of seizures they come in all types shaking grinding teeth lethargic usually after and then fine. im a nurse and see it in people just wondering if a dog could have this problem ,but now i dont think i should have mentioned it after all you have been through you dont need anymore. then i was thinking if this is the problem meds can help and the puppy may not need her tooth pulled after all it may just fall out from the grinding?

You guys....I am soooooo soooooo sorry that I am just now getting an update in! OMG, I feel terrible! Wouldn't you KNOW that last night my stupid internet decided to go down and I couldn't get back on to do an update! Then this morning I tried coming to YT to do an update and it kept telling me that the page could not be displayed...so I have no idea if it had something to do with my internet going down or what, but I couldn't get on  Linda and Marj sent me a message on Facebook and told me that everyone was freaking out wondering what was going on, and I am just now able to get on to let everyone know what is going on. I haven't even read any of the other replies in this thread yet because I am just focused on getting this update in. But to put you all at ease....

Tatum is fine! :D I have absolutely NO idea what happened last night. I had the phone in my hand and was just about ready to call the vet to bring her in, and all of a sudden she stopped panting and was acting totally fine. Hubby and I were totally baffled by this....so we stopped and just watched her for a good while. She saw a piece of kibble on the floor and hauled butt over there and grabbed it and gobbled it down. Then she was running around acting like her crazy little self. She got a chew toy and started chewing on it and was even chasing after Stedman when he tried to come over and see what toy she had. I am still just so, so, so totally confused as to what was going on with her last night. Needless to say, hubby and I didn't go to sleep until about 3 a.m. cause we were up watching her, just to make sure everything was fine. We had her on the bed with us and she was asleep and we just laid there watching her for I don't know how long, just to make sure that she was still ok. And I found myself setting up every few seconds it seemed, to put my hand on her stomach to make sure she was breathing ok! UGH!! That was such a HUGE scare. Yesterday was my Birthday and I was having a wonderful day until all that started last night. It was seriously terrifying for us. I have never seen her like that and we still have no idea what caused it. But again, she is totally fine now. She ate all her food this morning (big shocker there....little miss piglet lol) and well....she is just fine. She is sleeping beside me right now in her little bed. She was drinking quite a bit of water last night which I guess caused her to pee quite a bit, but other than that she was ok, and no more panting. I just don't understand....it was the WEIRDEST thing. But so was her grinding her teeth the other night too. This girl just keeps us confused. Ugh! :(

Anyway, that's the update for now. If anything changes I will most DEFINITELY let you guys know. If she would happen to start panting again tonight for some reason (keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't! :xfingers:) I am just going to call the vet right away and take her in, cause I just have no idea what it is. But as of right now, all is good in Tatum land :D

I am going to go and read the replies since I haven't been able to yet, but thank you guys in advance, sooo much for all of your care and concern for her! You guys are always here when I need you and I LOVE you for that!! :ghug: Tatum sends KISSES! :animal-pa

Just got back to canada.. so glad to see your update and all is ok brooke.. gee these little furbutts can sure scare the crap out of us at times.. but so so glad to hear she was doing zoomies in no time... sending her puppy kisses from the gang... anne

I just wanted to say I'm sorry and I hope things get better for Tatum real soon. Sounds like she needs some good news for a change!

TresCutePiggies 06-16-2009 04:48 AM

Oh poor little Tatum, poor you, poor hubby and I'm sure Stedman doesn't understand what is going on either. :(

I would be irritated if my vet missed a baby tooth during a spay too. Try to think positive about her trachea since there isn't an "official" problem yet...I don't know anything about collapsed trachea other than the obvious use a harness never a collar, try not to let them get super excited, etc. but I'm sure someone out there will have some great ideas.

Hopefully, the Clavamox will help clear up her chest infection quickly, so at least you will be done with that part of the puzzle.

Sweet little Tatum has had a rough year to say the least.

I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

stedmansmommy 06-16-2009 05:03 AM

Thanks so much everyone. Yeah, that's what the vet doesn't know....HE said he wants me to bring her back in a few days to have her tooth pulled, but I had already whispered to hubby when the vet stepped out of the room yesterday that there is no way in heck I am bringing her in to be put under until her infection is 100% completely gone. Yeah right, I can't believe he even thinks that I would risk something like that after all she's been through already!

By the way....I think I might of confused some of you. We actually don't think that her teeth grinding the other night had anything to do with the loose tooth that the vet found yesterday. Her baby tooth that is loose is in the very FRONT of her mouth, and she was grinding down on the two teeth in the very back of her mouth. Also, he said he thinks that tooth has been loose for a while. She hasn't ever done anymore grinding with her teeth since that night, and if that episode had anything to do with the loose tooth in the front, then we think that she would have done it again or would continue to do it. Also, she probably would have done it long ago as again, he said the tooth has probably been loose for a while. Don't ask me how on earth I missed it being loose....it completely baffles me. So anyway, he thinks the tooth grinding could have been due to a tummy upset possibly. Ugh.... I don't know.

I hope my update last night didn't sound horrible. I felt so bad when I went to bed after writing that because I felt like it sounded like I was complaining about Tatum....but I honestly wasn't. I am just complaining about all that has gone wrong with her in her short 3 and 1/2 years of life, and MOST all of it happened within the first 2 years of her life. It's just really sad and breaks our hearts what all she has been through. And yes it does get extremely, extremely expensive. I have 5 babies and she alone costs me more (even on a DAILY basis, with all her meds, etc.) than my other 4 put together. But I know that there is nothing I can do to change that and I know that sometimes it just comes with the territory when you own an animal...you never know what problems they are going to have as the years progress and you never know what is going to happen. It just seems like WOW, only 3 and 1/2 years have passed and I feel like she's almost had a whole lifetime of problems already  I'll tell ya one thing, I have never in my whole entire life been to the vet this many times with any animal and I have owned tons, lol. I just feel so bad that Tatum has to go through all this. And the Trachea thing I don't even want to THINK about...it seriously makes me sick right now. She just had 2 knees surgeries 2 months ago... oh my God...how much can the poor little angel possibly go through.

Anyway, I am going to go feed my babies now. They are hungry and Steddy needs a belly band change. Tate still isn't feeling well obviously (I can see it in her eyes) but she is looking at me like, when are you going to feed me mom :( She also needs her meddy so I better get in there and get crackin.

Love you guys and thanks so much for all the sweet replies

i do feel bad for you, i do love my baby a lot but sometimes I think twice about vets because of how expensive they are, especially since i took him last week and he seems to have a billion things wrong with him. And I know I can't take care of all of it at once.

BonBon 06-16-2009 07:06 AM

Oh, Brooke! I'm just now seeing this thread. I'm so sorry little Tatum isn't feeling well. I know how much you've been through recently and now this. I pray she's all well again soon. Sending all of you big hugs. And Tatum, you quit scaring mommy & daddy, ok?!?!

yorkie_mama22 06-16-2009 09:00 AM

I'm so sorry for you. I know how you feel, I haven't spent nearly as much as you on Stormy YET but I have went through hell the last 8 months that I have had her. We have had lots of vet visits and seems like each time something new is wrong and it just goes on and on. It is extremely stressful and at times I was like I can't take it anymore!! It is so hard. We have been lucky to have no issues so far since April. But I am keeping my fingers crossed. :( I hope Tatum recovers and does well. As for the baby tooth, is there something you can do to help it fall out? Stormy had two baby ones they wanted to pull out and right before she turned two they both fell out.

Izzy Princess 06-16-2009 09:25 AM

Brooke, girl, don't feel bad about posting what you did..trust me I'm there right now with you on all the vet bills. I think we spent over 5k since November with Izzy's pancreatitis, SIBO, meds, foods, consults, nutrionists, vet bills. You just want to cry..then you get into panic mode now every time they have an off day thinking OMG I can't take another high vet bill. But you do it and go from there and pray and hope for the best.

Izzy is not even 3 and we have said the same thing..OMG she is going to be a costly doggie but we do what we can and take each day as it comes. Because as soon as they have a good day and bark and play that's when you say it's all worth it no matter what.

Praying for you and all these poor sick babies. Hey - Izzy is champion line too and I spent a fortune on her as well..go figure.

TOY 06-16-2009 11:18 AM

Oh, my dear, I have just now read through the thread and gone through a whole spectrum of emotions as the situation unfolded, got better, and then the vet's visit. I am so hopeful that the meds will help her feel better soon and that the other problems will sort themselves out.

The expense of the medical problems scare me to death especially after reading of Tatum's bloodline and cost. We thought we were avoiding possible health risks by going that route, too, but your problems are certainly giving me pause.

Is it too late for you to obtain health insurance for her? I know that many people do not consider it necessary but since we are on a fixed, retirement income, I didn't feel not having it was an option. It's one of those things I hope we never have to use but I am glad to have some level of reassurance that we won't encounter enormous bills that would ruin us. Even in a strong economy, health issues (be they pet or human) can destroy a financial base and cause undue stress on individuals and marriages. (Unfortunately, I am speaking from some "human" health crisis issues here.)

From our experience, the stress of worrying about your loved one's health (again, whether human or pet) is bad enough without the added stress of financial worry, too. I totally understand where you are coming from when you are frustrated and concerned. Watching a loved one in pain is stressful enough in itself.

Sending you prayers and wishes for better days ahead for your little Tatum.
