You have to be in shock right now, I'm sure. HUGS Brooke! I'm so so sorry that you & Tate are having to go through all this. She has been such a fighter through it all. She doesn't deserve this. Well, bless her heart, she was trying to tell you that her little tooth was uncomfortable with the teeth grinding, huh? Won't the Vet have to wait until her chest infection clears before going under anesthesia for tooth extraction?? I'm hoping & praying that she will not need tracheal surgery. One step at a time. He wasn't certain, so try to think positive. I know it's hard & feels overwhelming. Prayers for Tatum & strength for you too.:ghug: |
Im so sorry hun (HUGS) I know what you mean about the money. I have put so much in my two Yorkies then I have any other pet we have owned. Mickeys had two surgerys and so many vet visits before those 2 surgerys. and Minnie was my healthy one and then bang we ended up losing her. life sucks some times. Im keeping your little one in my prayers shes been through so much and so have you. |
I can't believe what I am reading! How horrible for all of you Brooke! I know your head is spinning right now with all the new news but I am just wondering if Tatum was supposed to have her baby teeth taken out then wouldn't that fall back on the Vet? I know even that thought isn't enough to make it better. I am just thinking that would be one thing that in my opinion wouldn't be your financial obligation since it was vets error.? My heart is going out to you. I have only had one instance that I had to rush one of mine to the vets because he had gotten into something. I am not sure what I would do in your position... chances are, probably break down and sob! My prayers are going out to you and Tatum.. Big hugs! |
So sorry for all that you and little Tatum are going through at the moment. Thinking of you  xxx xxx |
Tooth Well if she's 3 1/2 she's probably about do for a cleaning, so they can do it all at once. And they normally do, but you should ask just to make sure. And you need to ask them to check her anals while she's in there. Baby teeth don't normally cause enough pain to cause her symptoms unless it's infected. They usually only have pain when the adult teeth are coming in, and that's not the case here. And definitely no anesthesia till the chest infection clears up. |
well ive been following this thread and was just about to ask if she could be having some type of seizures they come in all types shaking grinding teeth lethargic usually after and then fine. im a nurse and see it in people just wondering if a dog could have this problem ,but now i dont think i should have mentioned it after all you have been through you dont need anymore. then i was thinking if this is the problem meds can help and the puppy may not need her tooth pulled after all it may just fall out from the grinding? |

I just wanted to say I'm sorry and I hope things get better for Tatum real soon. Sounds like she needs some good news for a change! |
Oh poor little Tatum, poor you, poor hubby and I'm sure Stedman doesn't understand what is going on either. :( I would be irritated if my vet missed a baby tooth during a spay too. Try to think positive about her trachea since there isn't an "official" problem yet...I don't know anything about collapsed trachea other than the obvious use a harness never a collar, try not to let them get super excited, etc. but I'm sure someone out there will have some great ideas. Hopefully, the Clavamox will help clear up her chest infection quickly, so at least you will be done with that part of the puzzle. Sweet little Tatum has had a rough year to say the least. I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. |
Thanks so much everyone. Yeah, that's what the vet doesn't know....HE said he wants me to bring her back in a few days to have her tooth pulled, but I had already whispered to hubby when the vet stepped out of the room yesterday that there is no way in heck I am bringing her in to be put under until her infection is 100% completely gone. Yeah right, I can't believe he even thinks that I would risk something like that after all she's been through already! By the way....I think I might of confused some of you. We actually don't think that her teeth grinding the other night had anything to do with the loose tooth that the vet found yesterday. Her baby tooth that is loose is in the very FRONT of her mouth, and she was grinding down on the two teeth in the very back of her mouth. Also, he said he thinks that tooth has been loose for a while. She hasn't ever done anymore grinding with her teeth since that night, and if that episode had anything to do with the loose tooth in the front, then we think that she would have done it again or would continue to do it. Also, she probably would have done it long ago as again, he said the tooth has probably been loose for a while. Don't ask me how on earth I missed it being loose....it completely baffles me. So anyway, he thinks the tooth grinding could have been due to a tummy upset possibly. Ugh.... I don't know. I hope my update last night didn't sound horrible. I felt so bad when I went to bed after writing that because I felt like it sounded like I was complaining about Tatum....but I honestly wasn't. I am just complaining about all that has gone wrong with her in her short 3 and 1/2 years of life, and MOST all of it happened within the first 2 years of her life. It's just really sad and breaks our hearts what all she has been through. And yes it does get extremely, extremely expensive. I have 5 babies and she alone costs me more (even on a DAILY basis, with all her meds, etc.) than my other 4 put together. But I know that there is nothing I can do to change that and I know that sometimes it just comes with the territory when you own an animal...you never know what problems they are going to have as the years progress and you never know what is going to happen. It just seems like WOW, only 3 and 1/2 years have passed and I feel like she's almost had a whole lifetime of problems already  I'll tell ya one thing, I have never in my whole entire life been to the vet this many times with any animal and I have owned tons, lol. I just feel so bad that Tatum has to go through all this. And the Trachea thing I don't even want to THINK about...it seriously makes me sick right now. She just had 2 knees surgeries 2 months ago... oh my God...how much can the poor little angel possibly go through. Anyway, I am going to go feed my babies now. They are hungry and Steddy needs a belly band change. Tate still isn't feeling well obviously (I can see it in her eyes) but she is looking at me like, when are you going to feed me mom :( She also needs her meddy so I better get in there and get crackin. Love you guys and thanks so much for all the sweet replies  |

Oh, Brooke! I'm just now seeing this thread. I'm so sorry little Tatum isn't feeling well. I know how much you've been through recently and now this. I pray she's all well again soon. Sending all of you big hugs. And Tatum, you quit scaring mommy & daddy, ok?!?! |
I'm so sorry for you. I know how you feel, I haven't spent nearly as much as you on Stormy YET but I have went through hell the last 8 months that I have had her. We have had lots of vet visits and seems like each time something new is wrong and it just goes on and on. It is extremely stressful and at times I was like I can't take it anymore!! It is so hard. We have been lucky to have no issues so far since April. But I am keeping my fingers crossed. :( I hope Tatum recovers and does well. As for the baby tooth, is there something you can do to help it fall out? Stormy had two baby ones they wanted to pull out and right before she turned two they both fell out. |
Brooke, girl, don't feel bad about posting what you did..trust me I'm there right now with you on all the vet bills. I think we spent over 5k since November with Izzy's pancreatitis, SIBO, meds, foods, consults, nutrionists, vet bills. You just want to cry..then you get into panic mode now every time they have an off day thinking OMG I can't take another high vet bill. But you do it and go from there and pray and hope for the best. Izzy is not even 3 and we have said the same thing..OMG she is going to be a costly doggie but we do what we can and take each day as it comes. Because as soon as they have a good day and bark and play that's when you say it's all worth it no matter what. Praying for you and all these poor sick babies. Hey - Izzy is champion line too and I spent a fortune on her as well..go figure. |
Oh, my dear, I have just now read through the thread and gone through a whole spectrum of emotions as the situation unfolded, got better, and then the vet's visit. I am so hopeful that the meds will help her feel better soon and that the other problems will sort themselves out. The expense of the medical problems scare me to death especially after reading of Tatum's bloodline and cost. We thought we were avoiding possible health risks by going that route, too, but your problems are certainly giving me pause. Is it too late for you to obtain health insurance for her? I know that many people do not consider it necessary but since we are on a fixed, retirement income, I didn't feel not having it was an option. It's one of those things I hope we never have to use but I am glad to have some level of reassurance that we won't encounter enormous bills that would ruin us. Even in a strong economy, health issues (be they pet or human) can destroy a financial base and cause undue stress on individuals and marriages. (Unfortunately, I am speaking from some "human" health crisis issues here.) From our experience, the stress of worrying about your loved one's health (again, whether human or pet) is bad enough without the added stress of financial worry, too. I totally understand where you are coming from when you are frustrated and concerned. Watching a loved one in pain is stressful enough in itself. Sending you prayers and wishes for better days ahead for your little Tatum. |
Brooke, I am so sorry your poor little Tatum is going through all this. :big_hug: |
Poor little Tatum, can she be eating something that is giving her gas. It does kind of sound like gas and abdomial cramps. Hope you get it figured out. Keeping Tatum in our prayers. |
Sending lots of hugs to you and Tater tot. Also to hubby and Steddy as this is trying on everyone I am sure. I hope she recovers well and is back to her cute little self soon. |
Brook, I am soo very sorry to hear about Tatum, she is cute as a bug, Im so sorry you have to go thru all of this. Tatum is in my prayers I hope things get better!! |
Brooke, I'm so sorry for everything your little Tatum is going through! You are good parents and love her {{{{}}}}}! If you didn't care, you wouldn't be so emotional about all of it. I had AprilLove in for a toofer cleaning about 2 months ago, and they found a baby tooth!!!! (She's 3 1/2) I was livid, mostly because I was like, why didn't they see the tooth when she was spayed at 7 months and had 11 puppers pulled then??!!! I felt so bad that I hadn't noticed it, but it was apparently being hidden by the adult tooth. We just wanted to send out get better fast wishes for Tatum and hope the infection clears quickly and she can get back to feeling better! Big huggles to all of you from Me and the furbutts  |
Awwww, your poor baby! She's been through so much:( You are such good, loving parents to her and Steddy:love: Please don't feel bad about venting, it must be very very difficult to watch her suffer through all of these things, it makes you feel helpless, I'm sure. Tater Tot is actually one lucky little girl, she could have ended up with parents that aren't as caring and committed to her health as you and your dear husband so obviously are. Of course it'll get you down a little, but you are doing everything right! I hope that baby girl is feeling back to her spunky self in short order. She's such a dollbaby, and loved by so many here:D! |

Hugs to you Brooke! So sorry you're going through all these things w/little Tatum...& that Tatum has to endure all this. We're all here to support you & wish Tatum well. I know this is just a saying, but God only gives you what you (in this case also cutie Tatum) can handle. Tatum is a tough little cookie. We are all by your side. |
I am praying little Tatum gets better soon. I know when Cali gets her stomach upset she pants and shivers so maybe her tummy is cramping. The Clavamox may upset her tummy a little too. I know how you feel, Cali has made my vet and specialists rich. My vet said one day do you think you can stay away for a month! So don't feel bad for venting, it is terrible to see them sick and not know how to make it better and financially it is overwhelming. Hugs |
Update Sigh. I am just so beside myself. Yesterday Tatum was very, very quiet and she pretty much just layed down all day, and when she did get up, she would just stand there and stare and not do anything. She didn't get excited at dinner time (although she DID eat all of her food) and she didn't even get excited when I was getting ready to put her up on the bed last night to go night night....and she always gets excited about that. Also, as some of you may have read in my reply above, she had gas (yesterday), which she NEVER has...so that is confusing me as well. :( Today she is MUCH more perky, almost back to her normal self....however, she started the panting and shaking again  It is so weird because she shakes like a leaf like she is FREEZING cold....yet she pants with her tongue hanging out like she is totally hot. It is just the weirdest, most odd thing I have ever seen. I do not understand what is causing all of this. The vet did a full blood panel on her and everything came back absolutely normal. He even did a heartworm test (I wanted him to, just for piece of mind) - again, we got the all clear - negative on the heartworm test. I am just so freakin' confused and it is driving me CRAZY. I mean I literally do not know what is causing this. Other than the panting and shaking she acts completely normal. She eats, pees and poops normal. Although it does seem to me that she is drinking more water than usual. Sigh. I just wish I had an answer! Can anyone think of ANYTHING at all that could be causing this??? I mean, ANYTHING?? Maybe it is just the infection that she has in her chest, but then again yesterday she wasn't panting or shaking AT ALL. Today is the first day that it started back up again. Nothing out of the ordinary happened today that didn't happen yesterday either. So I know that it isn't something that is "going on" or any loud noises, etc. that might be scaring her. I just DO NOT get it! :( We have alot of HUGE banana trees in the backyard and she has been chewing (and possibly even eating, I'm sure) the little buds that drop on the ground when the bananas are ready on the tree. However, I looked online (quite a while back actually) and it says that nothing on the banana tree is poisonous. The vet said that she couldn't haven't eaten anything poisonous anyway because all her blood tests came back normal. I started both of the babies on Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil exactly 16 days ago (I just pour 1/2 a tsp on their food once daily, in the mornings) - but this is 100% all natural so I can't see this hurting her. I am just trying to think of every little thing...but I am drawing a total blank on this one. If you guys have ANY suggestions or thoughts at all, please let me know! Thanks so much...love you guys  P.S. - Someone did mention about her anal glads possibly needing to be expressed. She has never had this done before as I heard that you are not supposed to START doing it unless it NEEDS to be done, because once you start, they will always need them emptied. I wonder if this could be the cause of everything??? Any thoughts??? |
I am so sorry to hear Tatum is still not well. Did you stop the coconut oil? I would just to make sure it isn't related to that. |
Corn Syrup! That happened to my vinny the other day. However it was right after he threw up for no reason (we are guessing food poising) anyway... he was going into a coma from having such low blood sugar. I took him too the vet ASAP and the put some fluids into him.. and we have been giving him Corn Syrup ever since. We usually give him maple syrup once a week. But try giving your pup Corn syrup through a syringe. It's thicker so it's better for "emergancy" situations. |
Anals The thing about anals is they either have the problem or they don't. Most small dogs have the problem. If you have not had that checked yet, Please Please do it. It's the cheapest thing you could do at this point and I would just about bet my next breath that's what it is. And if it is then she is suffering for no real good reason. |
I'm so sorry Brooke. I hope you find out what it is. London is sick too, she is not eating and basically upset tummy, something bad is going on in there. It's so hard with these guys...i am beside myself too...i am worried all the time now that something bad will happen. :( All we can do is pray |
Oh Brooke, so sorry to read all about little Tate. I haven't been on much lately. I hope that you find out what it is real soon. I agree, get her glands checked because it is the cheaper of the options at this point. I've been grooming Hot Rod myself for the past few months and about 3 weeks ago, took him to the vet cause he was acting a bit strange and sitting down on our walks again--which started the whole lp thing--so I got real worried. Turned out that his glands were very, very full! Whew! The groomers had been expressing them in the past. He's all better now so I would say at least let the vet check, it is the easiest of the possible solutions at this point. Good luck and BIG hugs to you and Tatum. :) |
