I have spent so much money going she has done this 4 times so far in the past 5 months. It first started after her first bath but i dont know what that could have to do with it. well anyway the vet recommended karo syrup. I gave it to her lastnight and started off to the vet but then figured by the time i got there it would be all over again its always late at night when it happens like 11 or 12 midnight. the vet said the tests would be like 400 dollors....With the economy headed south things are hard ,im worried i just dont have it right now.so please if anyone has any advice .????could she be eating something wrong. a friend said she shouldint have bread. |

| You may want to post in the "sick" forum-you may get more responses. How much does your baby weigh; how much does she eat and how often? Was she throwing up food or yellow foamy stuff?

| Hey this sounds a lot like what my dog, Curly was doing the other day! It turned out, she had water in her ears from swimming the day before and it was throwing her all off kilter. She's a little dog, under 3 lbs so far and I guess that bit of water really works on a tiny little thing. Has the vet checked her ears out? I noticed you said after bath, which is why I ask. Otherwise, maybe she's going hypoglycemic on you which is why the karo syrup "cures" her before you hit the vet. Last edited by shannonroselive; 06-07-2009 at 04:13 PM. |

| I would definitely keep some Nutrical (it is much better than Karo syrup and can be found in most pet supply stores) on hand and give her a dollup at the first sign. Do you free-feed her (kibble down all day) or is she fed at specific times and how many times a day? If she is diabetic, there will be excessive peeing and constant drinking - so watch for these behaviors as well. The blood tests to diagnose diabetes should be right around $100. But, if she is diabetic - the cost of insulin needle supply is not inexpensive - but can be lessened lots by purchasing human needles of the right size rather than spending five times as much on pet needles.

| Anther concern is that it may be signs of a liver shunt. She needs to be tested for it . those are behavior indicaters. I am sorry. OR, it could simply be a ear infection. Please get her tested and find out exactly what is going on with Molly. Neither of these behviors are normal.

So what dog food are you feeding and what table foods are you feeding? Just be honest because it might fix your problem you just never know.

| Sounds like what I'm going through with my baby I got a lot of great advice here from the other YT members. Don't bother going to a vet, that was my mistake and I spent a lot of money there already when they didn't really do as much as they could of in my opinion. My dog had a lack of appetite, couldn't walk (or in other words walked like she was drunk, stumbled), screamed, but had normal sugar levels as well and they also said my puppy would be fine. My puppy is now in the pet hospital emergency room and is going to see a neurologist/specialist today. The doctor in the ER said it is possible that she may have a liver shunt, but there are still other possibilities of what it may be, but we won't know for sure until later tonight. So best of luck to you, hope your Molly feels better! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | The vet should check for an inner ear infection...and also do a CBC and chem panel.

| This sounds very much like Liver Shunt Please, Please go to a NEW VET. You need to get a Serum Bile Acid Test done. This is a fasting blood test that shows liver function. Depending on your area, it is about $60 to $100 for the test. Please this is VERY important and should be done ASAP |

| does your dog act spaced out after eating, head press on the walls, picky eater, have any seizures, vomit? These are all signs of liver shunt. At this point i would go to an internal medicine specialist have the pre and post bile acid tests done , full cbc panel and rule out liver shunt as that is very common in this breed. 8 months is a little young for diabetes not to say it is not possible but liver shunt is very common. You need to have these tests done at minimum to rule this out as this is very serious if it is liver shunt what are you feeding? |
