| I think my new puppy might be very sick Bailey has runny poop now with a little blood in it. I'm so scared and the vet is closed until tomorrow ( she is the only vet around unfortunately ) Bailey is drinking water and eating a little. I feel horrible. It sounds like cocidia (sp) My poor puppy.

| do you have an er vet as you may want to take in as dehydration can be an issue - is she drinking a ton of water ? if drinking alot of water you may be able to wait until vet opens tomorrow- take a sample of the poop in am and keep in fridge until you get to vet to preserve it - the internal medicine specialist here told me to do that |

| giardia Hello, Don't panic!! Was your puppy flown? Stress induces something called giardia. I am a breeder who learned the hard way. Many vets will often over look giardia. It is very common for puppies to get it when they transfer to a new home. It is a parasite. All puppies have them, but they become active with stress... especially flying. The most common symptom is runny poo with slime and a little blood. It is simple to treat, just mention it to your vet so they don't automatically think Albon is the answer. When I first started buying puppies years ago, I would get puppies all the time who had this problem. I ended up going to three different vets before the last vet checked my puppy for giardia.. sure enough.. I have done a lot of research and when I ship or sell a new puppy, I always make sure the buyer is aware of what to look for.. It does sound like giardia is what your new puppy is suffering from. Please, let me know how it turns out.. Also, check your puppies gums and make sure they are nice and pink, not white. |

| I can't reach the vet, just a machine. The poop is pale in color and looks a little slimy with a few red spots in it. I didn't think to take a pic and have it cleaned up. I'm very concerned now. I thought it might be coccidia, but this Gardia sounds worst! My puppy was flown in. I feel very guilty. He is eating and drinking water, he was playing earlier and now is napping. If it wasn't for the unusual poop I would have thought he was doing good. I don't even have faith in the local vet. I hope to god he doesn't die.

| Darlene, First I want to say Im so sorry your puppy is sick because I read every one of your posts and I know how badly you wanted everything to be perfect.. I did the same thing and my puppy came home with a severe ear infection and kennel cough, I was soo distraught I thought she would die and be sick forever... try to remain calm.. my puppy was eating and drinking fine as well and she made it just fine after we went to the vet and got meds.... Im pretty sure following everyones advise here you will be fine and Bailey will be cured soon.... try not to stress, just get him to the vet as soon as it opens tomorrow and get him the meds needed... Im sure your pretty worried, I slept with my puppy everynight because her cough scared the heck out of me and her poor ears hurt her so bad... After a few days on meds she was fine and is now healthy as a horse.. Im sure he will be fine

| Its most likely either coccidia or giardia. If he is eating and drinking okay I think he will be fine untill tomorrow. The vet will give him meds and it will clear up

| Please try not to worry. As long as your puppy is eating and drinking , and not throwing up, he is going to be fine until you get him in to the vet tommorow. He is not going to die Bring a stool sample when you go.
