| Orphaned puppies update- all alive It is almost time for another feeding- all 3 seem ok, all taking in almost 1 cc every 2 hours- i sleep in a room with them in their bed by my bed with an alarm clock so i can make sure they get food at night too. I will weigh them tomorrow and see if they have gained- still mourning over Izzy- cant stand to go in her room or see a pic of her just makes me cry. cant believe she is not here- well, i hope the pups continue as they are for i think they will make it with constant care. I was disappointed with the vets reaction when he saw them- i think he just didnt want to give me false hope since i had just lost my dog. But according to all the great responses and research that i have done, they do have a chance. i think the worse thing is worrying about the milk getting into their lungs- the biggest pup i think will be ready for the small bottle in a couple of days- he is really good at sucking. The lil girl seems to be catching on to it quite well too. The runt, i call lil stubs for now because he seems so stubborn (although that can be good) is kind of starting to suck. I still cant believe they dont make smaller bottles than the one at the vet or farm supplies- if the nipple was only smaller i wouldnt be so worried about them aspirating. I will post a new update tomorrow- thank you thank you thank you to all who have helped and encouraged me- this website is a blessing to us all. i will try and personally respond to all the emails when i get a lil more sleep. good night all, rhonda the vet showed me how to feed the pups with the syringe- he did not seem like there was hope for them- but i am not giving up- they are full term- a huge advantage. They are peeing and pooping everytime i feed them but they seem to only get maybe 1cc down and that is with spillage. 2 of them seem to be getting the sucking instinct down but the runt, 3 oz, is really struggling with that. Does anyone know what the warning signs are if they are starting to die? I am trying not to get attached but it is impossible- i never knew you could love an animal this much, but it is true, you can. well, thanks again, i will try and figure out how to post the pics of them tomorrow- rhonda ---End Quote--- Rhonda it sounds as if you are doing okay with them. I have also hand raised puppies. there is a lot of good advice on the thread you started yesterday. people on that thread are waiting for an update from you. just copy and paste thiss on your thread. it is very easy to get fluid in their lungs when you are trying to feed them. be very careful and try to stay calm. a 3oz puppies is a good size. do you have anyway to weigh them about three times a day so you can see if they are gaining. as they get stronger, you will need to increase the amount you are giving them. |

| thank you ever so much on this update.. I was worried sick for you last night and so wishing I were closer... I prayed and will keep praying for these babies.. It is good you worry about aspriation as that will keep you watching more carefully..a good thing.. Please as hard as this is.. they need the consistency at night as much as in the day..I tube fed princess gracie for two weeks until she got the hang of suckling.. my vet did not think she would make it.. but I also had the vet subq fluids into her twice.. once the night I started tube feeding and the very next morning.. for she has began to dehydrate at two days old..that was just what she needed then for me to feed on a schedule... she made it.. will be 4 years old on the 23rd of may..so keep positive.. tell the children what and why your doing what you have to do.. ever two hours in order to keep babies alive... again we are here for you.. It will be the proudest moment when you see those babies thriving to grow more..and gain more weight.. and your love will grow also..keep up the good work... it can be done.. anne |

| I'm so sorry for the loss of your Izzy You're doing a great job keeping her babies going, and I know it's going to be so hard for a while, but worth it. Try to rest whenever you can. Is there anyone that can come and help you at all? Maybe so you can get more than an hour of sleep at a time? I know there has to be someone here on YT that might be able to help. Wish I were closer. BIG hugs to you!
