| Is my Yorkie Ill? Hi, I have just found your site and am desparate. I have two yorkies Harry is 2 George is 1. Harry started to become aggressive at times about 6 months ago. It was occasional. We tried ignoring it and walking away but it has got worse. This week he has become unbearable he is snarling and really nasty. I cannot groom him, or get close to him. I am on warfarin so have to be careful of bites. he has never bitten us yet but he is like a savage wolf with really angry eyes when upset. We tried behaviour therapy but hes gone past clicking things etc.The tablets she gave have not helped. I spoke with vet who is seeing him on thursday and is going to castrate him, not what I wanted but so desparate I don't know what else to do. Being a retired nurse I have been looking at illnessses and have found some conditions can cause aggression and as things have slowly got worse and worse I am beginning to wonder if it could be a medical condition. He spends a lot of time in his basket sleeping but when out walking he runs about and appears fine but he has become very anti social and does not sit with us like he used to spending more time in the kitchen where his basket is. I would be interested in opinions Val |

| We did have one person on here whose dog suddenly became aggressive and it ended up having a brain tumor. It couldnt hurt to have a vet check him over

| there was also a member that had a yorkie that had something similar to cocker rage, and she eventually had to be put down because she was uncontrolable, but that member might be able to point you in the right direction.

| It could be possible that it is a medical condition like a brain tumor, or it could be something like a liver shunt. My Chance started acting aggressive, she didn't want to be picked up, brushed or anything. She also slept alot, but if we were outside she acted somewhat like herself, but she just sort of acted like she didn't lessen to me much. I found out that she was just feeling really bad and the aggression was her way of letting us know she wasn't feeling good. You could have her bile acids checked, they can not show any signs of a liver shunt and still have one. Sandy |

| Hydrocephalus can cause aggression. Can cause every symptom you described. MRI and Spinal tap should be done to diagnose this problem. This problem is most often found in Toy breeds. And is most often congenital. |

| It is a very good idea that you are having him neutered and I hope that solves some of this aggression. IMO all male dogs should be neutered. They do not need those hormones raging thru them. Having him neutered should calm him a bit. But you also have to enforce training methods as he is acting as if he is the boss, when YOU are the boss. When it comes to food, you need to make him work for his food. Teach him commands and make him do them before you place his food down for him to eat. Also, BEFORE he eats, YOU need to eat something in front of him, so he can see that the TRUE pack leader eats first and he eats when YOU tell him he can eat |

| Hi, I have just returned from the vets, hes been given a clean bill of health and TLC you are spot on. Having my other one-George neutered has just given Harry more authority and things have got out of hand. Things are going to change. He will have his op next thursday and we will confine him to the kitchen when we are out, I think we were doing some things wrong--loving them to much, to the point of causing problems. Paul and I are going to work together to show them who is pack leader. Thank you all for your advice and I am so glad he is not ill. Val |
