| they stated they felt they got it all and there is a 50% chance that it may come back or not..then this afternoon i receive a call stating he had a high grade carcinoma and his prognosis is guarded and possible chemo...we are going to speak with the oncologist on monday, but i really don't know if i want to put him through anything else..they did the surgery and removed a 5cm mass...this has been very upsetting and i have been crying since i got home from work... |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | oh i'm so sorry. Garden state is a great hospital tho. i used to work for one further north called Animal Emergency and Referral Assoc. so i've seen many surgeries like your yorkies. How old is your yorkie? is he in good general health otherwise? Chemo does work wonders but it is very expensive and i know its hard right now to afford such things. Chemo in dogs is very different then with people. They dont lose hair, and they are not as sick as people get. good luck at the oncologist appt on monday. i hope you guys get some good news about his future.

| I think everyone needs to make this personal decision. Two years ago my T.J. had a tumor removed from his colon. it caused complet blockage and either had to be removed or he had to be euthanized. When his results came back they told me it was a very aggressive type cancer and his prognosis was very poor. They also offered chemo. He was 11 years old at the time. I decided he had been through enough and didn't have the chemo. They told me had may have 6 months at the longest. Next month it will be 2 years and he is doing very well. I have a friend whose dog had a leg amputated and they talked him into getting chemo for his dog. After $7000 more in vet bills his dog died 6 months later. He said he regretted putting the dog through it. I am very pleased with my decision and when the time comes I hope I am prepared. Sorry for the "book" and I know whatever you decide it will be the right thing for you and your dog |

| Welcome to YT. I am so sorry about your baby. I live in NJ as well. We lost our Yorkie to cancer. He will be gone two years this August. He was ten years old. He had it on his foot pad (if you can believe that) and the tumor was removed but without good margins due to his foot being so small. We were told it would come back within a year and within two months it came back aggressively. Chemo was not an option due to the area and the size of his foot. We opted to have his leg amputated in hopes of saving him but went through preliminary testing first to be sure it had not spread. He got through all the testing up until the catscan in which it showed a mass on his liver. He was suffering so with his foot and at that point to put him through amputation would have been pointless so we opted to let him leave us peacefully and without pain. It was the hardest think I will ever have to do but looking back I know we made the right decision. Not a day goes by that I don't miss him but I know he's in a better place. You have to follow yoru heart and what you think is in HIS best interest. Sometimes that's hard to do because we love them so much. I pray God gives you the strength and the answers you need. | My 13 year old boy had cancer of the bladder. At first he had surgery for bladder stones but when he had the surgery the vet noticed that he had an unusually thickening of the bladder wall. A biopsy was done and it was cancer. Surgery and chemo wasn't an option because of where the tumor was located. Six weeks later we had to make the difficult decision to let my baby go. I concidered myself lucky that I had him in my life for 13 years.
