| another scare this time with heartworm medicine This message was longer but after I wrote it and hit sent I don't know what happened, so here it was againg with less details my baby just got a bad reaction to iverhart max. she started vomiting so muh and her gums got grayish. I wanted Heartguard plus that she's had one time when my vet gave me a freesample, but they when I went to buy it they didn't have it. Then, they gave me the wrong dose for dogs from 12.1 lbs. I called the vet to asked him about the dose but he said it was fine to give it to her (she is about 5 lbs). Now she is fine after losts of water and some food but I was ready to go to the emergency clinic. I'm mad at myself for giving her this dose. One shouldn't trust the vet so much. Do you know anything to prevent the heartworms?

| How scary! I stick with Interceptor is it's considered to be the safest for epileptics like my Lady. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | how dare your vet give you a dose of medication that she knows isn't correct for your dog. i would NOT go back there. I've used Interceptor before and am currently using Sentinel. Both give morgan no problems.

| One shouldn't trust the vet so much We have gone to many vets and do not trust any of them anymore.... I research everything prior to going or look for alternatives... i would look for a holistic or alternative vet or even better a traditional chinese medicine vet they are much better and have many alternatives to all the chemicals that most vets have... all these little ones are getting way too many chemicals causing illness to early....how many chemicals can a under 20 pound dog be exposed too in its' lifetime ? |

| Are you sure it was the wrong dose? Most heartworm meds have large dosing ranges like that. So she didn't react to Heartgard but thse did react to Iverhart Max?

| Same thing happened to me. I went to pick up Kayla's Interceptor and they gave me the dosage of Lexi and Tina . Kayla's is 1lb. to 10lb. and theirs is the 11lbs. to 20. I just took it back. The recptionist is new and that is probably what happened. She pulled the wrong file. But if I had a vet tell me to go ahead and give her the more dosage I would never look back. I would be looking for another vet. That is ridulous. Sounds real caring. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | so i just went to the iverhart website and since your dog is 5 lbs she shouldn't be getting this medication AT ALL! The lowest dose is from 6-12lbs. next dose, which i think is what you got, was 12.1-25lbs.

YT Addict | I can't believe your vet would tell you to give your baby the wrong dosage. It is a pesticide afterall and it could have killed your dog. I would be finding another vet pronto. Oh, I just wanted to edit to also say that my vet prescribed me the flea shampoo that killed my baby. I dont trust them at all.

| hi Thank you all for the replies. I also, want to add that her stomach wasn't that full. I mean, before I gave her the pill she ate like 3 baby carrots and one green bean. anyway when I gave her heartguard she had no reaction at all. I think it was definitely because of the wrong dosage. and when I called the vet I didn't actually spoke to him, the recepctionist asked him for me and, could hear the vet's voice but didn't actually heard him give the ok

| I use Interceptor on my 5 and they do fabulous. I've also used it on all the rescues and have had no problems.
