| Question about LP I was wondering if there were any signs of LP without taking your baby to a vet. My furbaby is from a pet store here in Japan. I am in the USAF and got stationed here so I had no idea where to find a breeder nor did i speak japanese to accomplish that.. so anyways.. I know that they do have puppy mills EVERYWHERE in the world. But she is the sturdiest little dog i have ever met. How much do you think ( ballpark avergage ) it would cost to get her checked out for LP. I am all about prevention if i can. Thanks again everyone who responds

| Luxating patellas is an extremely common issue in toy breed dogs. Most of the time, if the grade is high enough, you can tell by watching your dog run and play. If she hold up one or both back legs sporadically, LP is a definite possibility. Xrays are the only definitive diagnosis. Your vet can palpate her knees, which can certainly diagnose more severe levels of LP. However, keep in mind that normal palpations are a possibility and really xrays are the way to go if your suspecting LP. Ranger had LP in both legs, but the left leg was the only one with an abnormal palpation. I have no idea how much the cost of an exam out of country would be and you really need to call and ask your vet.

| Have you taken her to a vet since you got her? She needs a basic physical anyway. Checking her knees should be part of it. She needs vaccinations and then spaying at the appropriate age. Her knees could be checked then, too. |

| Yeah I took her to the vet like 2 days after I got her. They gave her her shots and checked her heart beat or whatever but I did not know they are supposed to check the knees. I live on a military base where you can never get an appointment for anything because its always booked ( one of the many great things about living overseas ... NOT! ).. I will not be able to get her spayed until the Captain that does them gets back from a deployment which is sometime is June. I would take her off base somewhere but the launguage barrier is very difficult.

| Called the vet Wow! It's funny how acting really concerned can get you an appointment for the 5th of May. I told the lady that I am really concerned about this and that they did not check for it when I brought her in and she said " oh my let me get you set up right now with an appt." I am nervous they might find something... she doesnt seem to have a thing wrong with her, but i hate going to the doctors for the same reason, you go in for one thing and they diagnose you with something else~!
