| I'm getting scared! Truffles came home but not doing well! She ate some chicken for me about 5:30 last night and seemed "ok." I left for work and my husband was home with her. She came running for dried chicken treats but didn't eat anything else. I got home at 2am and she came runnin, tail waggin but wasn't interested in any food/chicken. She got up this morning and still has some diarriah but we knew that. Now she is vomiting bile again! I don't know what to do?!? I just left a message for her dr. She is mopey again. I am scared and I don't know what to do for her!

| Try not to worry. Tricksie has been through that several times but it was nothing serious.

| Well with her I think it is serious since they are saying pancreatitis, no? She has to eat and stop throwing up or she'll be going back to the hospital today

| Did they diagnose pancreatitis or are they not giving you answers? If it was diagnosed as pancreatitis and she is throwing up, nothing really should be given by mouth for 24 hours including water. She may very well need to go to the vet for an IV again. They need to keep her until she isn't throwing up and is eating okay. Oh and as much as Science Diet is not too appetizing, they should've put her on a prescription diet and they had no good reason not to. I'm not sure why they didn't use something like I/D or W/D but, in my opinion, they better give it now...........

| They did say pancreatitis, however I'm not sure they are 100% ? She went to the hospital Monday morning and came home yesterday late afternoon. She did not vomit at all while she was there. Not until this morning again. They withheld food - well she wasn't interested in it all - and then they had me bring chicken to see if she'd take that. She finally did Wednesday morning and again last night. And she has been drinking water at home too. This morning though, vomiting. I am supposed to give her 1/4 tab of pepsid AC now and I don't know how I'm gonna get it down her if she wont/can't eat! They did suggest the prescription diet but they also said bland could be boiled chicken, cottage cheese, eggs, etc. So thats what I was trying to get her to eat since she was not interested in the prescription diet! | Then it sounds like she needs to go back. Her pancreas is being damaged and giving anything by mouth just isn't healthy.

I agree. Not to scare you, but the damage from pancreatitis can cause diabetes. She needs an IV so her pancreas can rest completely and recover. | |

Therapy Dog Donating Member | So sorry I think Truffles needs to go back and get an IV started and they will watch her first 24 hours to stabalize her (get her hydrated again). Then they watch the next 24 hours to see if she stops vomiting and no soft stools. Then they will try to feed her most likely the Science Diet W/D and if she keeps that down then they should release her to you. That's what they did for Izzy - I know scary but only thing that will work to save your baby.

| this is exactly what they just did! We thought she was stabilized and ready to come home? I am getting sick myself, with worry. She is just laying by herself in her bed. No more vomiting since this morning though. But no nothing, really. Quote:

Therapy Dog Donating Member | I can't believe your vet hasn't had you bring her in right away. Something isn't right...if you can I would take her in right away. Praying for your baby Truffles.

| If she eats much of anything, she will likely just vomit again. Pancreatitis is a tough one. It can be very hard on them and they may need to just keep her longer this time. I do not know if it is possible but I wonder if they could give fluids subcutaneously a couple-few times a day and send her home in between if money is tight? Not sure on that but she really wouldn't be getting many nutrients that way.
