Spinal injury to 4 month old puppy 3 Attachment(s) As some of you might have seen, there is a very sick little puppy that was offered for free in the Rescue Forum here on YT. After much hard work "behind the scenes" the OP was persuaded to surrender this pup to a rescue for proper care. Megansmomma now has Teagan and has been spending a lot of her time in the past few days caring for this little one. Teagan is unable to stand or walk because of a traumatic injure to the C3 and C4 vertebra in his spine~after being stepped on. :( He also has a congenital defect of the Axis C1 and C2 and Luxating Patella which is due to his poor breeding. It was learned at his initial vet visit that if he would have had immediate surgery to his spine, he would have most likely made a full recovery. But since the original accident happened at the beginning of February with his only treatment being an oral steroid until his surrender this past weekend which was well over a month ago. :( After discussions with the vet Teagan will need to be seen by a Neurologist and will then need surgery that is estimated at close to $5,000! :( It was also suggested by the vet that he might not ever walk again because the injury which happened in the beginning of February was not treated with immediate surgery as suggested by the ER vet when the accident happened. The poor little guy is only 4 months old and 3 lbs of pure Yorkie love :( He just needs lot YT love and prayers for him to get the care that he so much deserves. Although she would love to keep him in her foster care it was decided even before he was surrendered that YTNR would be able to provide one on one care for little Teagon in hope that he can make a wonderful recovery and be able to walk again. :( Megansmomma as you might know already has one foster pup Truman, her own three rescue pups as well as three kids and a husband. Teagan will need 24 hour care once he has surgery in hope that he will regain the ability to walk again. She is getting ready tonight to drive him to meet Corine in Indianapolis to hand him over to her care. She has sent me pictures and a video so that you can see just how cute Teagon is and she knows he will steal your heart just like he has hers. :p He will be put onto the YTNR website probably late tomorrow afternoon and I'm sure that Megansmomma will keep us posted how the transfer gone tomorrow. This video is so heartbreaking. That poor baby. Is there a way we can donate to the surgery? |
Thank you, that is very sweet of you. Im sure they will appreciate any donations towards his surgery. You can go to yorkierescue.com and donate on the website. There is a paypal button toward the bottom of the home page. Teagan isnt yet on the website but donations can still be made and he should be in the available rescues section tomorrow. |
Please keep us posted on how he does. I would love to see that little man get better and am willing to help if I can. |
omg he is adorable, yes he could steal my heart in a heartbeat, that is so sad he was not taken care of sooner, hoping the surgery does the trick |
This is so sad. What a darling little sweetheart he is! I will be praying for a successful surgery and full recovery! |
Poor little man:(this is so sad. Sending Prayers his way:hands::hands::hands::hands:for a speedy recovery after he has his surgery! |
OMG:eek: poor little Teagan! So sad...he wasn't even born like this, & it could've been fixed...I'm mad at the person who did this to him!! Is he in pain? I hope he's not. Why is he whimpering like that? Maybe cuz he wants to move but he can't & he had to pee.:( I hope the doctors can fix him up. I'll check yorkierescue.com tomorrow so I can donate too. |
That is just hearbreaking. People:mad: To Meagansmomma, thanks for being there for this little boy. I will go to the website for donations. (I just realized we had a rescue section.) |
:cry:Oh, how heartbreaking....my prayers are with this precious little one |
Not sure if YTNR has seen this or knows about this. But Oklahoma State University is a pioneer in the Laser Disc Surgery and it is pretty inexpensive as compared to other places, PLUS the laser surgery is less invasive on the dog. Im waiting to hear back from megansmomma she is meeting a representive from YTNR to give the puppy to them. Im sure she is going to miss him very much. She has been spending every second with this little guy to help him be more comfortable in this transition. |
I can't view the video which is good for me. Just thinking of this little one and how he did not receive the care at once is enough to make me want to scream. I will keep this little one in my prayer's and hope he get's to be a puppy soon and finds his forever home. Bless his little heart and the rescue who is taking him. |
I'm home and Teagan is now in the care of YTNR and Corine! She was so nice and I just feel that Teagan is in very good and loving hands with her. I drove his into Indy and we got to meet and spend a little while together and talked rescues;) but mostly about Teagan. I had to give him a few final cuddles and he gave me a bunch of yorkie puppy kisses. Our time was limited though because Corine already had his appointment set for her vet! So I have to share 2 stories about this little guy........ He has been back on the predisone for almost a week and this morning he actually pushed himself up onto his back legs! He was totally a wobble butt and then he got up onto his front knees....all in a effort to get to Bogey who just has fallen in love with him. I am taking this as a sign that he will be able to walk again after surgery! ;) So my second story is on the way to Indy he was sleeping on the floor of my car all warm and toasty for miles and miles. I look over at his and he must have been having a puppy dream because his front legs were moving ever so slightly like he was :animal37 So of course now I am crying like a fool looking as Teagan sleeps. He looked so peaceful and tiny. :littleang Corine promised to keep us all posted how he is doing and told me that he will be on the website today after his vet visit. I have already passed TLC's info on to her and hopefully she will investigate this as well. I have her what medical records and the few Xrays that were taken so hopefully this will help in making a decision on what is next for this baby. I miss him so much and he was only here just a few short days. I made sure that he had all of the little things that I bought to take care of him while he was here. He went with a little care package of baby food, diapers, special bowl, toys, his crate that he had spent all his time in, and the only t shirt that I could find that was small enough to fit him. He was always cold because he was so tiny an just able to lay in his crate so I made sure he was always nice and wrapped up warm. ;) I promised that I would go to visit him after he had his surgery so that I could love him up even more. :( I would also like to thank anyone who has made donations to YTNR on behalf of Teagan! YTer's are just the best and always want to help in a crisis situation like this little guy! Corine said that anyone that does go to the site should include Teagan on their email donation so that the funds will go directly to him. Here is their website again for all those that have been asking: Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue Adoptions and Shop Here are a few more picture of Teagan. It feels great to see Yorkie Rescue volunteers all working together for a common good. I just want to say a great big :thankyou2:yorkietal |
O that is soo sad I could not watch all of the video it just makes my heart hurt for the little guy, sending prayers for all that have taken care of him and for him to have a safe surgery and a quick recovery. :( |
Praying for a complete recovery, little angel:hands: |
I can't find his pic on the site. I'll be making a donation for lil' Teagan. |
What a precious little baby!! Thank goodness for people who are so caring and willing to do whatever it takes to help I hope he will have a quick recovery! |
I spoke with Jodi today and things do not look good for Teagan. Corrine had taken him to her Vet, and his feelings were the same as Jodi's, that immediate treatment after the injury would have given him a chance. Jodi explained to Corrine that I want to Foster Teagan, and Corrine told Jodi to have me fill out a Foster app and she would watch for it. Jodi & I agreed, I should hold off until Corrine takes him to the Neurologist. Please continue praying fro this little guy. He is in pain, as you can hear him crying in the video. I am holding onto hope that it is not too late for surgery to help him. He's just a baby and this shouldn't have been the way he was treated. I cannot begin to express my outrage that the only treatment the OP of the original thread provided him was the cortisone shot at the ER Vet. My tiny Kia injured a disc in her spine years ago, and my husband and I recognized, immediately that something was wrong and took her to her Vet, and he gave her a cortisone shot and meds and she was perfectly fine. I was so grateful that Jodi was able to convince Marie to turn him over. Jodi is indeed, a Rescue Angel. Sheila |
O that is just horrible, I am so glad that he has ya'll now to take care of him. Sending prayers for the little guy. |

We are praying the Neurologist will have better news. My hubby said if surgery is a possibility and we are approved to foster him we'll drive wherever is needed to see that he gets his surgery. It would be great if we could foster, because Jodi would be able to see him, and she became very attached to little Teagan. Jodi really is special. Thanks for the prayers. This little guy really needs them. |
OMG poor little baby! :( My heart just broke in million pieces by hearing him cry. :(:(:( Sending prayers for the full recovery. :hands: |

I cry every time I watch that video. Thanks for the prayers. I believe in miracles and this baby needs one. |
I am a little lost, I understand what happened to him but did someone on YT have him and didn't give him the proper care that he need at the time and now you took him and then...? I am just a little lost but anyways it doesn't really matter, what matters now is that he is in good hands and he has so many people praying for him. O my heart hurts for the little guy, thank you and Jodi for taking him in and helping him. |
Poor little Teagan, I'm so sorry to hear about his condition. I hope the surgery goes well and that he will be able to walk again. |

She posted under the Yorkie Rescue Sections here on YT section, & I saw that she was still giving me first option of taking him, so I called her and she told me he had an injury to C1 & C2 vertebrae. So, I called my Vet with the info and he wanted to talk to her, so she had her daughter who is a Vet Tech call, my Vet prescribed Rimadyl for one week and wanted to see him after the week on Rimadyl. I spoke with my Vet again, and he was willing to give the puppy a free exam as long as Marie came to the appointment with me. He would not give me a "go ahead" on adopting him until he examined the puppy and saw his medical records and spoke with Marie. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...home-asap.html She wasn't able to bring him out on the Thursday my Vet stated and Jodi kindly took over and called her and told her that she needed to turn him over to someone! So, Jodi met Marie in a parking lot on the 17th and Marie turned Teagan over to her. And Jodi drove him to LaFayette, IN and turned him over to Corrine with YTNR. We're wating now, for YTNR to take him to a Neurologist. So, God Bless Jodi!!!! Sheila |

Jodi and Corrine's Vets have examined him, and said he needed the surgery immediately, when the injury first happened. Sheila |
