| Possible strained neck Last night my little Titan yelped very loudly when my daughter was holding him and leaned down to kiss his head. We checked him out and he yelped several more times but we can't seem to zero in on where he hurts. I was thinking teeth at first but can't get a response when feeling or pushing on his teeth. We have pretty much poked and felt him all over with no response. Several times the yelps have been when we kiss him and I think it has to do with putting our hands on his face and slightly pulling his head to the side. I offered him a treat and he jumped up to take it and screamed. I'm thinking he may have strained his neck. Poor little guy really screams when we accidently move him the wrong way. Otherwise he is acting like he feels fine and jumps on and off the couch with no complaint. The dogs play pretty rough so I imagine it could have been a result of wrestling with one of the other dogs. Anyway, I'm wondering if there is anything I can or should do to make him feel better, or heal quicker. I don't think he's in constant pain, just occasionally moves in such a way to aggravate it. Poor little guy.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | When my harry was about 10 months he sprained his neck and I took him to the vet and he put him on rimadyl, I call a friend of mine who has a friend that is into dog holistic medicine and she suggested that if he was not in constant pain, to give him something called "Arnica" she pointed me in the right direction I ordered it and started giving it to Harry and in a week he was runing and being his old little self again, Now I keep it in the house at all times. hugs, Carmen in nj Arnica (30C), it is used extensively to treat shock, injury and bruising and for post-operative care. Arnica also helps to control bleeding. Although this herb is potentially toxic in its raw state and is therefore only used externally, homeopathic manufacturing methods ensure that Arnica is safe to use internally and is unparalleled in its effectiveness for post-trauma healing. |

| I would have this pup checked for atlanto-axial subluxation or instability. It is very serious and sadly Yorkies are more prone to it than others breeds. Any neck pain is a reason to see the vet.

| That was my first thought, too. Yorkies are prone to it, unfortunately. |

| Glad to hear you found out for sure what it was and I don't blame you for not wanting to use that partular pain med. I have heard alot of bad things about it even though my vet has given it to my schnauzers. They have never took it for over a long period of time though. Hope your little guy gets to feeling better. Thats bound to hurt and their little necks are so tiny. |

| neck injury 3 weeks ago my grandson picked up my 8 year old yorkie by the neck to help her over the baby gate. I quickly grabbed her and set her down. 2 days later I noticed her tilting her head and the neck looked slightly off. I have taken her to chiropractic visits with no change. I am concerned it may be atlanto-axial subluxation or instability, but am hoping it is just a strain. She acts normal, jumping, playing, chasing cat, barking, shaking head after rain gets on her, ect. she does act like it is slightly stiff after laying down awhile. The head is still tilted and neck looks slightly off, but does not feel off to my touch, and she does not cry at all. Any suggestions? I would like to try the arnica, how much would I give her? How much were the xrays, and anesthesia? She will need blood work to make sure she can have the anesthesia also. Any ideas the cost of the visit and all the above? I am hoping the time I have not gone to the vet will not be an extra problem for her. |

| You can call your vet and ask how much the xrays are. They vary quite a bit, I just paid $100 for two views (but he didn't charge me an exam fee or anything). I hope your baby is ok

| So sorry to hear about your baby I sure hope you can find out what is going soon.. all vets prices are different but you want to make sure you are going to a vet that has delt with AAI(altanolaxail instabilty). I believe when i went to the ER for a second opinion for Babybear I was charged 245.00 but that was a ER vet and we all know how much more that will cost.. I have taken BB back to my vet for x-rays just to set my mind at ease to check the pins and it was about 150 for 4 different views.. Each view cost more. Hope you find out what is going on.. BB's neck still after surgery is not lined up When I lay him on his back I can see his neck is off to one side but he is doing fine.. Please keep us updated on what you do. And if it is AAI please no more Chiro appointments.. I was told by my vet NO NO NO for AAI pups..

| Cathyc, since you are new here, may I suggest you ask your question in a separate post in either the Sick & Injured section or Health section? I'm afraid no one will see it here. |
