hmm... nope- "light" or "lite" means they take out sugar and put in an artificial sweetner... let me go look up the ingriedients.

dont' give it to him- it contains aspertame- BIG no no for dogs

Oh no I just gave him a little!! :( O my gosh what have I done. I wasn't even thinking about that and then I looked and it was too late!

it's ok- i'm sure people give it to their dogs all the time and dont' realize it- i don't think a few licks will do anything serious- just try to get something else in his tummy- banana or cheerios- but it's good that he took it :D

I am soo mad at myself I did give him some of his all natural treats, I have nothing I need to go to the store but I just haven't had any time.

*hugs* it's really ok- just watch for diarrhea- I just googled aspertame- and the studies are conflicting as to whether or not it IS toxic- but we'll assume the worst and that it is- just watch for vomitting and diarrhea- if either of those occur call the ER vet- you might even want to call just to ease your mind- they dont' always tell you to come in- if they think it is a safe amount they will tell you to just watch him.

I understand that the sweetener xylitol is toxic to pets, but what about other sweeteners like sucralose and aspartame?

Great question, Kristin. Sweeteners such as sucralose (Splenda), aspartame (NutraSweet) and saccharin (Sweet N' Low) are not known to cause problems in dogs or other pets, as the sweetener xylitol has been shown to do. However, they could potentially cause mild gastrointestinal upset if eaten in significant quantities, so it is still a good idea to refrain from offering pets such sweeteners.

oh honey- it's ok! We've ALL given our dogs things we didn't know was bad for them- he just had a small amount- i'm sure he will be just fine! Layla's sitter gave her pork one day- I was up ALL night with her worried about pancreatitis (Which it turns out she has :p ) but she was just fine- didn't throw up or have diarrhea- these little guys are in our hearts and make us worry so much- you are a great mommy who just wants to do the best for him- try and get him to eat something else- carrots... something so that that isn't the only thing in his tummy. I'm sure he will be just fine!

That isn't going to hurt but I wouldn't recommend giving any artificial sweeteners if it is avoidable. No worries.
