| Not good news with Rebel's dental today Well, the good news is - Lucy has beautiful, healthy teeth. The bad news is - Rebel doesn't........... The vet has always told me that his dark, discolored teeth were due to a touch of distemper when he was tiny. NOT. After a lot of consulting today when I left him for his cleaning, it's been confirmed that he has enamel hypoplasia. The enamel on his teeth didn't form correctly. Our vet has been in business a LONG time, and this is only the second case he's ever seen. They had to pull NINE (9) of my baby's teeth! They were BAD! I am so upset right now. I just got home with the babies and Rebel cried all the way home and into the house. I bought soft food for him during lunch and gave him a little when we got home. He ate a little bit, and is stretched out in the sunshine on the back screened porch. He is PITIFUL! His little ears are laid down and he isn't interested in anything. Please say a prayer for my Rebel - he's breaking my heart!

| Poor little Rebel. He needs a bunch of pity 'cause that's what we do for our babies. Will you be home cooking for him? I think he'd really LIKE that. |

| So what does this mean for Rebel? Are his teeth expected to be okay?

| I just went to a dental seminar and the vet said that most teeth are really not needed for dogs anymore. That really all they need is the back grinders and all the others can be pulled w/o the dogs having problems. They will usually try to save the canines, but only because they "look" better. I hope that helps On dogs with horrible teeth they sometimes have to pull every single tooth and the dogs are still fine, but have to eat soft canned food after that.

| Thanks everyone! And Wreenee4 - I appreciate your post. I've been worried sick and called the vet again. He said dogs have 44 teeth and that since he removed the bad ones, Reb should be fine. We'll have to really watch his dental hygiene and be careful not to give him hard treats (stuff like nylabones which I don't give the babies anyway). He has all his front teeth, the bad ones were closer to the back on top and bottom. He seems to feel OK this morning. I mixed soft food (boiled chicken) into his dry with a little broth and the little booger scarfed it up and tried to get Lucy's hard food. God bless 'im - I held them both and rocked them last night. Rebel cried the whole time. I checked on him during the night and he was out like a light.

Could I ask why Lily's teeth had to be removed? Did she have problems similar to Reb's?
