| urinary track infection My little 6 month old just got a uti, and i was wondering is this common in this breed. I have her meds from the vet and she said it should clear up in a couple of days. It must of been very painful for her because she has been waking up in the middle of the night barking. She gets fixed next week I hope the infection will be gone. Kellie and Gracie |

| It just happens sometimes and isn't a big concern. If you have trouble getting it to go away or it recurs, I would consider a bile acid test for liver function. Liver problems are very common in Yorkies and bladder issues can be secondary to it. If she is in that much pain, I'd be a bit concerned that stones may be present. She should be just fine though.

| Urinary tract infections are not more common in Yorkies, but they are more common in females because of their anatomy. Sometime the urine pH can be the culprit if it's too high or low. Adding a cranberry supplement can be helpful if it's too alkaline. |
