Liquidy Gooey Poop My Yorkie is 8 years old and in great health. I have not made any changes to his diet. Over the last few days though, he has been pooping 4 or 5 times a day, it is really soft and gooey, not the usual. Today he pooped really really dark, like almost black, but he only pooped once all day, still gooey though. This has been going on for 3 days now. Anything to worry about or should it clear up? I don't have a lot of experience, I only adopted him 6 months ago. He seems to be getting better... but I'm not sure. Just keep an eye on him?

if it is soft- i would just keep an eye on it- if it is liquid- he hsould go to the vet. You might try giving him some pro biotic yogurt or some pure canned pupmkin to harden things up.

Unlike fresh red blood in the stool, black tarry diarrhea is very serious. He needs to be seen by your vet. Please read this: Melena (Blood in Stool) in Dogs

Please Post A New Thread for Me ... Not sure how to! Hi, I have been reading alot about diet here on this forum. My 10 month old has been on Wellness Puppy with very loose stools and foul smelling gas so we switched him to the adult thinking maybe the puppy food was too rich for him. Same results with the Wellness Adult for Small Breed. I did much research and found other dog owners who have the same problems while on Wellness, especially since Wellness changed its packaging. Apparently new owners and mass marketing to large pet stores maybe at the cause of this. Loose stools, vomitting, diarrhea, etc. I found a site that maybe helpful for all here. It is "dogfoodanalysis.com" It lists all the dog foods and rates them from 1 to 6 stars. I found going to the FAQ and clicking to "why can't I find my dog food", then click on the index and you get a list of all the dog foods. Although Wellness rates 5 stars I will take my baby off the food. I have done alot of research and I have found that Orijen (Dry) (rated 6 stars) is quite good. They believe that any dog food with grains in it can affect the dog's health. We are going to try it and see. If you can post this as a new thread under "dogfoodanalysis.com" it may be helpful to others to check out the different brands. Thanks Odie's Mom (New Member)

Going back to the original topic: He only pooped once today, it is no longer dark/tarry but it is still soft and gooey. Since the colour has returned and it is now longer frequent throughout the day, I think he is getting better. I am also feeding him a little bit less for now to see how he responds.
