| Need Advice Please I have a 4 month old male Yorkie that weighs 5.9 lbs. he currently has diarrhea and I noticed a little blood in his stool. On Christmas Eve he was throwing up with diarrhea and then it went away after feeding him chicken and rice. Today it started again with just diarrhea, then some blood and then just a clear liquid. I am a 1st time dog owner and would appreciate any advice. Prior to Christmas Eve he was eating alot of rawhide and everyone told me how bad it was so i stopped. THank You |

| Diarrhea in a dog his age can be very serious. He needs to see the vet immediately if he hasn't already. Did he get any treats on before this happened that he usually doesn't get like meat?

| He needs to be seen by a vet. Diarrhea can be really dangerous and especially if there is blood. Anytime you see blood in the stool or vomit, they need to go right away. Continuously have liquid stool can cause dehydration and lead to other things like hypoglycemia. The one good thing on your side though, you have a big boy on your hands!

| Rawhide swells when it is in the intestines and doesn't digest, so it could be causing his symptoms. As the other posters have said, diarrhea is very, very serious in a toy breed dog. They can dehydrate quickly which causes an electrolyte imbalance which can cause cardiac arrest. You need to take your puppy to your vet asap. |

| Just seeing your post. My advice/observation is the same as prior posters. Poor little guy, I am praying that he will be OK. Please update us after your vet visit.

| He is at the vet now I took him to the vet and he is still there. I came home from work and he was in his crate and he didn't even bark when i walked in the house and was very lethargic. The vet said his temperature is very low and his gums are pale. I had to leave him for a few hours for abdominal x-rays and blood work, he said it could be possible heemoraging. I am sitting hear on pins and needles waiting for the vet to call me. Thanks for all of your responses and prayers, I really appreciate it. I will keep you informed of the outcome. |

| Thank you everyone!!! First I want to say this is a great forum and I really appreciate the great feedback. I picked u "Ami" (pronounced Ommy) at the vet and he his an inflamed digestive system. The vet changed his food and gave me 2 perscriptions, 1 for the stomach and 1 for the infection. His bloodwork came out very good. I appreciate all of the prayers and thank god it is not anyhing serious. |

| Good to hear your baby is doing better! Just out of curiosity... did the vet check for hook worms? They can cause a bloody diarrhea too... |
