| kash got bit... :( but he's ok! this happened a week ago (dec 11). thought i'd share my story... so, i'm staying with my grandparents right now, and they have a 60lb cheasapeake bay retriever named tessa. she's almost 12 years old, and she's completely blind due to diabetes. so, she knows there's a tiny little thing running around that she THINKS is a dog, but she's not quite sure. kash wears a collar with a bell on it, so he can be heard, but tessa probably wonders what the heck's going on. kash is, like, 4 lbs. so, uhm, tessa is about 15 times his size! kash is soooo playful, and all he wants to do is play with tessa, but she can't SEE. lol. every now and then, kash will try to play, and his pestering will annoy tessa, and she'll snap at him. so far, he's been able to dart away from her b/c he's so quick, and she's blind. but it's still scary. anyway, while i was at work last thursday, my grandpa called, and told me not to panic. (how can you call someone and tell them not to panic and then expect them to stay calm??). he told me tessa nipped kash on the bridge of his nose, and that he went to the vet. i guess kash was sniffing around tessa's food bowl (although it was empty), and she got territorial, and as a warning, she lunged at him. my grandpa said he doesn't think she actually bit him b/c the cut on his nose didn't even require stitches. and since she's so big, if she intentionally bit him, the injury probably would have been severe or fatal. she most likely just butted his head with hers (and she's got a BIG head), and her canine tooth just grazed his nose, which caused a small cut, and the impact caused a really bloody nose. so all in all, kash is fine. he's not even scared of tessa. he still sniffs her and licks her. i think she knows she hurt him, and she feels bad, b/c she seems a little more tolerant when he's close by. lol. sorry this was so long!

| You really need to keep the two of them separated when you can't watch them. Tessa is very old and blind and should not have to tolerate being bothered by a puppy. It's understandable that she snapped at him. You were lucky this time, but next time he could be seriously injured. I know of several cases where a big dog has snapped at a smaller dog and the little dog lost an eye. |

| Well, then whoever is supervising them needs to make sure he doesn't pester Tessa anymore. It's very important to give an old dog her space. Since Tessa is blind, I'm sure being pestered bothers her even more than it would a sighted dog. |

| I'm so glad your little one is ok. I dont think it was a matter of Tessa being blind or not....dogs are very territorial when it comes to their food bowl. Hek, I even give my husband a stern look of warning when i see his fork cross my plate.

| Hehe...my BF tries the same thing with me. I am the youngest and my older sisters use to take food off my plate when I was younger and it drove me nuts! Now I say if you touch my plate your going to pull back a stump.
