Update on Uma

Uma had her check up this morning and the Vet. says she is 99% recovered in her spine!!!!!! She is walking and running and playing. Still no playing with Yoko though. That's because Yoko is nearly twice Umas' weight and much heavier boned and we don't want any body slamming for at least another month. Going up on furniture is fine...no going down. He is having me wean her off the pheno. this month.....unless she has another seizure. Overall I am ecstatic over her check up. He did commend me on the care I gave herand my patience. That really made me feel good. YAY!! Uma is going to be just fine!!!!!!! Forgot to add....Vet. tech. said Uma is one of the prettiest Yorkies she has seen!

I didn't see your thread about Uma's injury, but I'm so pleased to hear that your baby is well - what fantastic news! Also, I have to agree with the vet tech she's a little stunner! xxx xxx

YAY, Uma ! That is just incredible - and what a GREAT Mommy you are! You basically healed your little baby, when she was so very sick. She is so lucky to have you. Just so happy to read of her recovery. Her story was so scary to me, esp. when you were describing the extent of her seizures.

I'm just curious, I wonder why - given the severity of what happened - why the vet might not keep her on a low-dose anti-seizure med for longer term, if not for life, ya know? Just curious.

Oh my, I can hear the happiness in your voice! I too missed the original thread. Could you post a link to it?
I am so happy that your little one is recovering from what sounds like a serious injury. You truly are a good mother!

OK, don't answer my previous post. I just backtracked and read your original post and updates. All I can say is WOW.
What a journey and what a caring person you are. I wish I had a daughter like yours!

Uma is so independent I am sure she willed herself to get better! I'm almost sure the resrictions on her activities kicked in that stubborn little Yorkie spirit and she became determined to show me she was capable of doing more. As to why wean her off the Pheno? He wants to make sure the seizures were NOT due to the meningitis. If at any time she has another seizure I am to give a ramped up dose during the seizure and get her to the ER ASAP. If this happens,Please,please not, she will have to be on Pheno the rest of her life. He just wants to make sure esp. since Pheno. is bad for their little livers. Uma weighed 4.4 pounds today and that is after eating a good breakfast. She is very fine boned and delicate, don't tell her that though!, I hate for her to be on any med. unless they are 100% sure the med. will do more good than harm. So, we will wait and see. It is scary to do this, but the thought of liver damage is also scary.
