| Leo is at the vet sick... Has anyone had a dog get Parvo, even after having all their shots? Leo is to date on all his shots and just had a DHPP on Oct 1. Poor Leo has been sick since Sunday, with bouts of vomiting and diarrhea. First thing on Monday... I called the vet to see what I should do. They ask me to being him in. The vet ended up keeping Leo for the day so they could give him fluids, pain medicine, run blood work and give him some medications to hopefully stop the vomiting and diarrhea. When I went back to pick him up, they didn't know what was wrong. But hoped that all that they had done...would start him on his way... to a quick recovery. They gave me instructions for the night and we made a follow up appt for the next morning. I brought Leo home & he slept most of the night. This morning I took Leo back to the Vet. On our drive over... he had another bout of diarrhea. The poor guy! I had to carry him into the vet with poop all over him. He ended up spending the day at the vet again. The vet called me tonight to give me an update. He told me that they think that Leo has Parvo. They are running a parvo test and the results are suppose to be back tomorrow. Poor Leo had to stay at the vet tonight! I hate it that my DH is traveling this week, so I am dealing with the dog and the kids (4) all by myself. I think I feel more pressure to make all the right decisions. I have spent ALL evening on the internet looking up everything I can about Parvo. So, I will be a little more prepare when I talk with the doctor tomorrow. Last edited by momof4CA; 11-12-2008 at 12:30 AM. |

| I member on another forum's Morkie got Parvo when he was seven months old. He'd had all his shots, too. He got it from his own backyard which neighborhood dogs used as a bathroom. Tucker was very sick for awhile, but he pulled through. Parvo is a nasty disease. I hope your sweet Leo will be okay. |

| I just went through the same thing last week with one of the dogs we are showing for a friend. It was not parvo, it was not pancreatitis, it was not Addison's, not viral, bacteria, or a parasite!!! I can tell you all the things it was not but not what it actually was! He had not gotten into anything funky (he was with us at a show in the motorhome so was either in a crate or an ex pen). Anyway, with fluids, stomach rest, and a shot of prednisone he eventually got over it. If it happens again we will look at pancreatic insufficiency and/or food intolerance. I did switch him to a fish and potato kiddle/canned so hopefully that will help. So the only diagnosis was HGE (hemorraghic gastroenteritis) which only means that he had bloody diarrhea and vomit of an unknown origin... Good luck and I hope he feels better soon, they might try a shot of a steroid if they can't pinpoint anything, it was the turning point for Leroy. |

| Thank you for all your kind thoughts! After a much need night of rest. I am at least feeling like I can take this on. It is amazing what a good night of sleep can do! My oldest 3 children have gone off to school this morning. I am very greatful for that! It will keep them busy...less time to worry about the dog! My youngest is home sick and has been since last Friday. I took her to the Doctor yesterday... she has Rotavirus. I think she is finally on the mend... she didn't get up sick last night! I am sitting here...anxiously awaiting a call from the vet... to let me know how Leo is this morning. I will let everyone know when I here from them. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | OH I pray Leo is getting better! As you read, Guinness is sick, too but it's apparently a virus or something. I'll update again when/if I get him home today. ***hugs*** to Leo

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Wow....this just doesn't make sense if he is UTD on shots and is 18mths old . Has he been to dog parks, groomers, any place where there are a lot of dogs? I agree w/ Wildcard, I think the vet should consider HGE. Please keep us updated. I'm thinking about you and Leo! HUGS!

| I hope it isn't parvo. Sadly though, he could've been a non-responder to the vaccine or it just didn't take.

| Good news from the vet. Leo's Parvo test can back negative! Leo had no vomitting or diarhea overnight. So this afternoon they will offer him a little food. If he is able to keep in down, then he might be able to come home tonight. I just keep thinking, eat some thing little guy so you can come home! |

| I had a two year old that contracted Parvo even after she had her second booster. Nasty stuff that Parvo. Sometimes when they have diarrhea and vomiting, it's the body's way of getting rid of the toxins and all the bad things. I sure hope your baby has a speedy recovery.
