| Bleeding in-between foot pads? I clipped the hair in-between Darwin's foot pads last Sunday before his bath, and everything went fine. Then yesterday morning, as I was wiping his paws off from coming in from outside, I noticed a little blood on his back left paw...upon further inspection, it was the skin in between his foot pads that was bleeding...this is 4 days post clipping. So, I cleaned it up, and made sure it wasn't still bleeding and he seemed fine, no yelping, or wincing when I was touching it. Then, this morning, coming in from pottying, I noticed his right back paw was doing the same thing. It is not a lot of blood, however, it does concern me...anyone have any thoughts? I used a wahl clipper, and gently went in between the pads to clip the hair between the foot pads. He didn't like it when I was clipping, but he didn't seem like it was painful either. Should I not clip this hair, and leave it to the groomer to handle? Or is there a better way to clip this hair than to go in between the pads with a clipper? |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I use small scissors trim between the pads. Clippers tend to cut too close. I guess because of the angle you have to use to get between their pads.

| I'm a groomer and the best way to clip hair on paws is to start at nail area and use the clipper over the pads (front of paw to back of paw) The in between hairs do a v-shape cut like this: the o's are the pad and the line is the cut, don't go too deep. Hope you can understand --- o o --o / \ o -- / O \ This should get rid of the hairs and make neat paws, of course you have to trim around the paw to shape them. |
