| Very Sick Baby Hi, We have a 4 yr. old Yorkie. She has been sick for 2 years now, and no vet can seem to figure out what's causing her problems. She has been to 6 vets in 3 states... She vomits and has diarhea. When she is getting ready to be sick, we usually know b/c she won't eat her food for a day or two. We keep her on a limited diet, she gets absolutely no table food or treats, and is currently eating California Natural.I also worry that she doesn't get the proper nutrition b/c she seems to be very fragile, although no vet has ever said she was underweight or malnourished. She has had several diagnosis, which have all turned out to be wrong. We need to make her better, and I don't know what else to do. Luckily, we can afford to pay for any medical care she needs, as she sometimes has to spend a week at a time at the vet, hooked up to IVs. A few of her past (wrong) diagnosis include: pancreatitis, bacterial infection in intestine, stress disorder, autoimmune disease....The list goes on, but these are the most recent. She vomited ten times today in one hour and was in so much pain she was whining, so, of course, will be staying the night and probably next few days with the vet. Any suggestions would be so helpful and appreciated! Thank you so much in advance! |

| If pre and post bile acids were done and not mvd or liver shunt then may be inflammatory bowel disease and with that you may have to rotate food as they can become intolerant of food and you have to switch -checkout this group ibdogs@yahoogroups.com -- go to Yahoo! Groups - Join or create groups, clubs, forums & communities and do a search for ibdogs and join as i think it could be this and my boy has it - he only gets it on potato based diets as white potato is inflammatory. We feed him 3 times a day small meals and he has gone 2 years no vomitting on purina ha soy hydrolized diet. It may be worth a shot as it is good for mvd as well as low in protein and low in fat - if protein is higher than 18% then this could be triggering it but 2 yrs is a long time to go through this - it took us a year and we realized it was potato that made him vomit so I am leaning towards this as there really is no way to diagnose it other than doing a scope and biopsy intestines but we opted not to do that as he had severe pancreatitis either caused by ibd or vice versa but since this food while i do not think it is the greatest but it works and he is no longer sick. These two things I would be leaning towards. What happened is dex would do ok and about 2 mos into food with potato he got backed up and then kept vomitting and had to be hospitalized and happened 4 or 5 times but once this food no more issues. When they ruled out pancreatitis did they do cpli and tli test? It sounds like large and small intestines are being affected as diarhea and vomitting. Dex only had small intestine area thus just vomitting. Hope this helps |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh my gosh, poor baby ! The IBD is a possibility, and I would have a chem panel done (or review past ones) to see if it indicates it. It sounds like she has both upper and lower involvement. I just did a search and found a great page for you to read regarding IBD: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in Dogs. If it is IBD, one of the best things you could is consult a canine nutritionist. I worked w/ one (via phone) for my Marcel (and others here at YT have now used her too). Other members, EllieMay and TLC have also used other nutritionists. A nutritionist can really work miracles sometimes - she did w/ my Marcel.

| How was pancreatitis ruled out? Vomiting that much sure does sound like it. Have bile acids been checked? If no vet can find anything wrong then it will probably need to be treated as IBD.
