My Yorkie died
 
We took our two Yorkies in to the vet on Monday to get their teeth cleaned. Two hours later the vet called to tell me the smallest had "arrested" as the anesthetic was being administered. This was not her first dental and not the first time she had been put out for a procedure. Needless to say, I feel so guilty. She was a happy healthy 7 year old Yorkie and I paid someone to kill her. I'm just sick. Her teeth were so bad and we couldn't get her to chew on knuckle bones, the vets recommendation. I thought I was doing the right thing.

I'm sorry, but I just have to cry out to someone. Has anyone else had any experience with this?

I know you are devastated, as I would be.....did the vet give you a reason for the furbutt arresting? Again I am so sorry for you and your little one....:eek:

Oh, my gosh...I am SO SORRY for your loss. My heart just aches for you. Please don't beat yourself up, you were doing the right thing for your baby. Something just went wrong here, it's not your fault. I'm just so sorry. Lots of HUGS. We're here for you.

I am so sorry for your loss. We never know when we put our babies under if they will come out of it or what reaction they will have. Don't blame yourself.... it's part of the risks one takes with anesthesia. It happens to humans too... sometimes things go wrong.

So sorry!

Don't drive yourself crazy with the "what ifs". We can find some way to point the finger at us whenever someone we love dies.

You did nothing wrong. You were doing what you thought best to protect
your baby from sickness. Remember that.

I'm so sorry for your loss but please don't beat yourself up. Your were doing your best for your baby and something went terribly wrong. It's a risk anytime they go under.

Thank you all. I just can't stop crying.

Needless to say I didn't let them do the dental on the other Yorkie at this time. I know she needs it, but I'm so afraid.

The vet didn't seem to know what went wrong. She said it may have been an allergic reaction. They gave her epinepherine and cpr, but it didn't help. I'm kind of worried that the fact she didn't eat enough the day before contributed to it. Maybe hypoglycemia. She liked to eat when I came home from work and I had worked late that night and she was unable to eat because it was after the time the vet wanted her to eat before anesthesia.

She had food out for her all day, but I'm worried that she didn't eat. I know that thinking all of the "what ifs" isn't going to help, but I can't help it.

The other Yorkie, Shelby, is her sister and she is so upset. She won't come out of hiding. She is much more timid that the other was and she is taking this real hard.

I'm starting to look for another. We need one to fill the hole in our hearts and be a companion for Shelby.

Our job here finishes on the first so I will have time to work with a puppy or a rescue.

I am so very sorry for your loss.:( I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. Like you, I was devistated and blamed myself for years(still do, but I try not to think about it). I still have a problem making that dreaded teeth cleaning vet appointment.

So very sorry for your loss. Please do not blame yourself. You had no way of knowing. You were being a good mom and getting her what she needed. I wish you well with your other baby and hope that your new one will help all heal quickly. Hugs.

This is sooooo heartbreaking!!! How tragic...that's something that we're never quite ready for....We all know the dangers....but when something does go wrong....noone can be prepared for it!!!

My sister lost her baby boy to a car accident and she rushed to fill that hole as soon as she could... It did help to heal that gaping wound.....it will never replace your lost precious one...but it sure will work to help mend your broken heart!!!

Again I'm truly sad for you and your loss...And I hope your other baby will come out of it's heartbreak too!!

I am so sorry for your loss. My Oliver goes in for a cleaning and removal of some puppy teeth that never came out' in a couple of weeks. Now i am scared to death...It needs to be done, but it is so scary when you hear these kinds of stories. My heart goes out to you for your loss...:(

I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved family member. That is one thing that we all worry about.

Thank you for your empathy.

I guess what made it so bad was that I had a real bad feeling about taking her in for her dental. I even told my husband how stressed I felt. I should have listened to my gut feelings.
