I am so sorry for your loss. Hugs and kisses from Mocha and Lulu. Please stop blaming yourself. I hope you will find the perfect companion for your other baby soon. :( |
I am so sorry for your loss. |
I don't even know what to say...I'm sorry...please accept my deepest condolences. Treasure your memories of her...they will live on forever in your heart. Rest in peace sweet baby...may you rest in peace. |
I'm so happy I found this site. I was beside myself when I first posted. I didn't think I could live with the guilt I felt. It is getting a tiny bit better. I realized I'm not alone. So many of us have had losses. These little dogs are so fragile. We did get a new pup. She is the ugliest Yorkie I have ever seen, but my husband is already crazy about her. He needed a little girl to love. I |

I am really sorry about your little girl. It sounds like she was pretty special. :angelyork For some people, getting a new dog ASAP is a good thing, for others a longer grieving period is needed. When we lost a lttle dog about 5 years ago, my hubby and I grieved a LONG time. Our vet told us the best thing for us would be to get another puppy.... but we didn't, and felt miserable for months....... and finally we got Shelby. The vet was right....... we should have gotten her sooner (probably right away). It doesn't "replace" the dog that died..... but I think dog lovers have so much to give and and why waste days?.... there is a dog out there that needs LOVE from a family!!!! Sounds like it was just what your hubby needed. Can't wait to see pics of the new addition. |
I am so sorry for your loss hon. *hugs* |
It is up to you and your family how soon to let another "furbie" into our lives. Harley died the week before we started fostering Zeke. DJ and Zack met the morning DJ died. They touched noses as if to "pass the baton" in the vet's paking lot and the wife knew that we would be adopting Zack (aka Clyde). We will always cherish the time and memories of Harley, DJ and Annie's time with us and how special they were. Zack and Zeke are not replacing them but a new start. |
I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers go out to you and your family. Getting another one will be so helpful, I think, in the healing process. I, too, lost my baby last February (not the same circumstances) and now that I found a new one, it does my heart good. And it may sound a little nutsy, but there are times when I look at my Bailey and can feel my poor lost baby is with me. Good luck to you.....Teresa |
My heart is literally breaking for you. Please don't blame yourself. I'm so glad to hear you found a new puppy to bring you happiness. I hope she will be just what your family and other yorkie need to help heal your broken hearts. |
I am so sorry to read this happened to you..It has been and will always be one of my biggest fears when getting dog's teeth cleaned. I am sorry for the loss of your beloved baby. I am also so happy you have another Yorkie to love. I know it will help ease your pain... |
I just had my demi dental done yesterday and due to gum disease at 4 1/2 she had to have almost all her teeth removed by a board certified dentist and they usually try to save the teeth but hers were so bad as i did not do dental due to fear of anesthesia. I strongly recommend going to board certified dentist for these procedures as that is all they do. |
:( I am so sorry. :( |
I am so sorry that you lost your sweet baby. But glad that you have found a new one to love.:) |
Omg I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I too fear putting my dog under for anything . My neighbor just experienced the same thing with her dog having a procedure and he had a reaction to anestesia so sorry again |
I am so so sorry. I can't even imagine how you are feeling. I remember being so nervous when Lucy had to be fixed. She needs to get a dental done but I have been putting it off for this reason. :( Ella needs to be fixed soon and I am not looking forward to it... |
Sorry for your loss :( |
I am so sorry for your lost. You mentioned this was the first dental procedure. Was it the first time w/this vet? Could it have been an error in his/her part. I am so sorry. |
i'm so sorry about the loss of your little girl....i feel so bad....i'm crying for your loss...i just lost my boy 2 weeks ago so i know how you feel. a couple of years ago my rescue greyhound was having her teeth cleaned and they said they had to revive her on the table and didn't think she had any brain damage....luckily she was perfect but we never did that again or any anesthesia....when she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, they said they can amputate her leg and she would live a little longer but we opted not to do that...she loved to run...she was a greyhound and thought she would probably die from anesthesia during the surgery. we eventually had to put her down but anytime i do a doggie dental, i'm petrified. again i'm so sorry for your loss...- spike's:aimeeyork mom - jenny |
I'm sorry you had to go through that  |
Sorry for your loss too:( |
Mom2twins.......It wasn't her first dental, but it was the first with this vet. I'm sure they overdosed her. Olivier.............What makes you think HE paid for her? |
I lost my little Coco 5 months ago while under anesthesia. Her little sister, Sasha, went into a terrible depression (wouldn't eat or play with her toys). Even though Coco could never be replaced, we contacted our breeder for another baby to keep Sasha company.....I'm so glad we made that decision, because our new little girl, CeCe, has brought happiness & playfulness back to Sasha. Sasha was due to be spayed & have her teeth cleaned right at the time we lost Coco. She had the pre-op bloodwork and everything. We decided to forgo both procedures because we just can't take the risk of loosing another baby. Coco was 3.5 lbs, Sasha is only 2.5 lbs. I keep reading more and more about anesthesia fatalities in smaller Yorkies. My heart goes out to you, as I truly feel your pain. The little paw prints they have left on our hearts will remain forever.:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
Cocoangel, I don't blame you. They already had our other Yorkie preped for her dental. I told them to take the IV out and give her to me. I just got Ruby's ashes today. I'm still so angry with the vet hospital. They never even said they were sorry we lost her. They never admitted to any wrong doing. I really didn't expect them to, but they could have had some compassion and said they were sorry for our loss. I waited for 3 weeks for her ashes and then I called. They said they didn't have an address for us. I had given them the address the day it happened. They also said they had called us. I checked everywhere they could have left a message, and they hadn't left any message. Our new little "ugly" yorkie has not lost her baby teeth so will have to have that done when she is spayed. I will check with the yorkie breeders in the area before I pick another vet, or I will travel back to California and see if my old vet with do it. She has retired, but is still working once in a while. |
Ruby2sday, The vet could not give us an explanation as to what happened with the anesthesia, but at least they apologized and sent cards. While we understand the benefits of spaying (prevention of breast cancer & uterine problems) we just don't want to take the risk. As far as the teeth go, we brush them. I am still researching the effects of anesthesia on tiny yorkies (and other tiny breeds). My breeder likes to stay in contact with his clients. He can not account for any type of cancer in any of his yorkies (mates parents, pups) so, we feel confident with regular checkups and quality care (and the grace of God) our babies will be ok. I hope that we never have to go through such an experience again and wish you and your babies health & happiness always! |
My old vet was wonderful with the very small breeds. She had practiced on rats until she was very good at putting the small ones under without problems. I hate it that she has retired. I intend to really look until I find the right person to take care of my little ones. I'm still just heartsick. |
awww, im so sorry. if u ever need anyone to talk to, we are all here for u:tinyheart |
Im so sorry for your loss, it breaks my heart for you when your just trying to do whats best for your baby:( |
I'm so sorry for your loss... thank you for sharing your experience, I knew it was risky to have the little ones have anesthesia, but wow... My heart aches with you. |
Yorkie Death from Teeth Cleaning I am very sorry for your loss. Just a few weeks ago, I too, lost a yorkie while she was having her teeth cleaned at the vet. I had the recommended bloodwork performed 2 days before her procedure and the vet said everything was fine. Previously, she had her teeth cleaned a couple of years ago without problems. Since this happened, I have contacted a rescue that specializes in yorkies and several professional yorkie breeders and members of a Yorkshire Terrier Club. I wanted to share some recommendations I received. I have learned that in addition to the "normal" bloodwork most vets do prior to administering anesthesia, it is also recomended yorkies have a bile acid test. Evidentally, many yorkies have mild liver abnormalities that the "normal" bloodwork does not detect. The yorkie may appear healthy with no symptoms. Wait at least 2 weeks after vacinations before scheduling teeth cleening. Lastly, make sure your yorkies will be properly monitored while under anesthesia. Sometimes, the person doing the cleaning is also the person monitoring. There should always be a 2nd person in the room that is only responsible for monitoring. I wanted to share what I have learned in case it might be helpful to someone else. It is dificult for me to know that had I not had my precious little Molly's teeth cleaned, she would still be here with me today. |
