| My Horrible Emergency Vet Experience.. also posted in the regional area. PLEASE READ FOR YOUR PET'S SAFETY MAKE SURE YOU HAVE LOTS OF OPTIONS. THIS WAS OUR ONLY OPTION. ************************************************** ******* Animal Emergency Center. 2465 N Main St # 5 Sunset, UT 84015 (801) 776-8118 ************************************************** ******* I just can't say enough times, or things about this HORRIBLE place. I had a boxer several years back, she had a bad reaction to eating a banana. We took her to this place, all they wanted to do was charge us for everything and guarentee nothing. After being there for 3 hrs, we decided to just go home. The wanted to runs some tests in excess of $600. We still paid the $200 EMERGENCY FEE. 2nd experience, 7 months ago. My friend had a sick pup that was born with a heart murmur, but since it was the middle of the night, she took her new born pup there!! (SAME VET). They wanted to run a blood test, and said maybe the pup was hypoglycemic. (????) Hello, maybe?? So my friend took her newby pup home, and went to her regular vet at 8 am.. The puppy had a heart murmur and they had to put it down. ARE YOU SERIOUS ????? She was at the vet, what they don't listen to the heart?? Oh h*ll no. Tonight 10/27/2008. My mothers yorkie went into labor at 9 pm, I went to my mom's house to help her out. After 2 1/2 hours of labor and no puppy, we had NO choice but to go to the Emergency Vet. They said it was $70 to check out the dog. After the Vet came in, here we go, now comes the fees. They said that they needed 1 x-ray cause they can't tell what's going on. They came back w/2 x-rays, (we never okayed the 2nd) then the Vet said she needed an emergency c-section. He had his assistant come in to show us an $800 bill. I said no to a few things that I knew wasn't necessary. I asked about the x-rays, she was like oh well. I asked her to fix the bill, guess what.. she came back with the same amount because now they were going to charge for all the "little" things that they weren't before!!! They demanded $800 UPFRONT. My mom said the banks not open, she'll have the full amount in cash when they opened at 9am. They tried to get her to sign for a special credit card with their bank. Then said, nope we can't help you. And if you leave your dog here, we will have you charged for animal abandonment. And by the way, if you don't do this now... your dog is going to die because of a stuck puppy. They had my mother so upset I thought I was going to need to take her to the emergency room. Sad to say, the yorkie is at home with my mother, I hope that when her Vet opens at 8 am that it's not too late. NEVER NEVER EVER WILL I GO TO THIS PLACE AGAIN !!!! I'LL CALL ALL OF UTAH AND 1/2 OF THE SURROUNDING STATES TO STAY AWAY!!! IF YOU LIVE HERE IN NORTHERN UTAH (DAVIS COUNTY AREA) PLEASE STEER CLEAR. THESE PEOPLE ARE MONEY HUNGRY CARELESS COLD HEART-ED PEOPLE.

| I would call that ER doctor and give him a great big piece of my mind and tell him that you never hope he needs emergency care for his child and is turned away. Then I would write a letter to whatever board that supervises them and tell them about this terrible story. He calls himself a vet, I call him a muderer! I am so sorry for this totally avoidable outcome. I do hope the mother dog is ok. Your poor mom. |

| Most of the emergency vets are exactly the same way here in AZ. They dont know sh*t about toy dogs and I believe that most are just out of vet school and think they know everything and the 25+ year breeder knows zip. They have a listening problem as well. Its all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I refuse to go to them anymore. I do have a vet that is very knowledgable about Yorkies and he will meet me anytime. He is a God-send!! Thankfully, I dont have many emergencies. Sorry for your loss. I am sure you and your mother are very traumatized and saddened by the total lack of compassion by these so called vets.

| That is awful. So sorry for your experiences. I would definitely file a complaint with whatever boards that certify and watch over them. You may be able to find other clients that have had horrible experiences as you and file some sort of class action. Good luck.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Our emergency vets operate the same way....an estimate is given and you settle that balance. I understand how quickly those fees go up and honestly there are many people who simply wouldn't or couldn't pay the fee. Checks or credit cards are accepted as well as cash... That being said...I love ours.

| So its not just CA then!! I swear I knew more then they did!!! They almost killed my new puppy!!!! Just from a routine checkup and some shots!! I took Jenny to the vet to get her "check up" before our flight and some routine shots. Well gave her a rabies shot (im sure it was waaay more then she needed!!!) and said to come back if she vomits. WELL SHE VOMITED right infront of the vet!!! Right there! KNow what she said? "oh its ok its just stress" . Stupid me dissmised it. For he next 3 days my poor baby had diarhea and vomited 4-6 time a day. I brought her in after I knew this was going nowhere good. The vet looked at her, yes looked at her, after i explained everything.. She gave my some overpriced GI meds and sent me home.. I came back the next morning SO MAD. She kept getting worse. SO now they had to hospitalize her! and they brought me a bill that half she did not need! Like wtf did she need an xray for???? And 24hrs there! WHY? ( I force fed her and made her drink water she was not hypoglycemic. ) So I made them fix the bill, and it went from $800 to $500. Yes they still ripped me off on the meds SHE did not need btw.. And they wrote a bunch of IVs they did which im sure they did one or two of the 4 they wrote.. Um and guess what? the lab sample we sent in, NEVER came back.. NOPE. So I had to get the care credit because I dont have 500$$$!!! Im still paying it off 5 months later..Im not going back there. I called my breeder and she was so disgusted. She told me next time to come to her and she will take care of any stomach issues. We took Jenny to the vet in Ukraine and the vet there was just appalled at Jennys condition. She simply gave us a probiotic for her and explained to us how to keep her on a strict diet for a few weeks. WORKED like magic!!! Jenny hasn't had one issue since August. Did I mention im not going back to the emergency vet here?? Sorry I took over yur post!! I wonder if there are any ppl who are satisfied with the emergency vets?

| Guess I won't complain about living in a small town anymore! I have my vets cell # in my phone. When my dog was having seizure problems, all we had to do was call him and he met us ASAP at the clinic, day, night, weekend, etc. The fees aren't any cheaper but they would never deny treatment, we just set up a payment plan. It makes me wonder how anyone could choose that field but be so heartless.
