Liver Shunt or Yorkie Encephalitis?

I understand. Ellie had to see an internist for her liver and we ended up with no answers. It is confusing and frustrating. If you can afford the bile acid test, I'd do that and if that comes back okay, then if the funds aren't there to see a neurologist, you could just forgo further testing. If it does happen to be the liver, she can be put on a low protein diet and supplements until something can be done...

Vision loss is a symptom of liver issues as well...I know of at least two yorkies who have lost their vision due to liver shunts/seizures/etc, and they have recovered their vision...There is hope...A bile acid test will give you more answers...At least it will tell you if you need to treat it as a liver problem or a neurological problem and is also the least costly *initial* testing.

Yes, my vet also said that vision loss can be due to Liver Shunt.

We're getting a blood panel test done today. So hopefully everything turns in our favor.
