| it was horrible! Out of a bad movie or nightmare! He was in the kitchen and had Jocie resting on his arm. As he turned, Jocie lost her balance and tried to jump. She hit the tile floor and was crumpled up, eyes open but not focusing on anything. My husband rand to pick her up, I ran to comfort my son who thought he's just accidentally killed the dog. We were all just bawling together. I sent my son upstairs so he wouldn't have to witness anything. I grabbed the phone, called my vet, she told me to high-tail it to the animal emergency room. Jocie started breathing but was breathing shallow and fast. I cried, prayed, and begged God to save my puppy as I was shagging a** to the hospital. I ran in there, carrying her scared little 1.6 lb body in. My vet had called them and given them a heads-up so they were waiting for us. They examined her, did X-rays, bloodwork, etc...Came out, told me that nothing was broken, but they were observing for head trauma. Xrays showed that she had some fluid in the bases of her lungs, but she was stable. They put her in the ICU with oxygen and IV fluids, pain medicine, and steroids to decrease swelling, especially in the brain. I left at 9:30 at night. I called back every couple of hours for an update. At the 4am update, they told me that her condition was critical and she was no longer stable. Her breathing had become labored. Another X-ray showed that her lungs were worse. They had started diuretics to get rid of extra fluid in her lungs, but they didn't know if her lungs were starting to fill up with blood. She wouldn't eat or drink. She couldn't rest. She was just breathing so hard and fast. The Dr said that time would tell. I visited Jocey yesterday at noon. She was just breathing so hard and fast. Her whole body shook. I loved on her as much as I was physically able (since she's in an oxygenated crate) and I left her a shirt I slept in because she loves laying on my dirty clothes. I went back yesterday evening and the Dr told me she's getting better. Her breathing, though still fast, was not labored. She even tried wagging her little tail. This morning the xray shows that her longs are MUCH improved. They are trying to wean her from the oxygen today. She's still not eating much or drinking much, but at least she's nibbling and sipping here and there. She's still breathing fast, though. I wonder how long that will last. They talk about her possibly coming home with medications tomorrow evening or the next day. Needless to say, we're excited and scared. I have told the children that under NO circumstances is anyone allowed to hold her unless they are sitting down. I don't even want her out of my site for a minute. I realize how incredibly lucky we are that she is still with us. Hopefully she will make a complete recovery but, as the vet said, time will tell. Has anyone else been down this road and had a complete recovery? |

| It's really hard when one of our kids gets hurt. Even harder when one of our 2-legged kids hold themselves responsible. Accidents happen and I hope your son will quickly recover from this episode. Your furkid is in good hands and with our prayers and God's help all will be well soon. Give your son a huge hug from me and my 4 younguns and we will say extra prayers for y'all to heal really fast. It is a good idea to enforce the sitting- down rule especially when this accident is so fresh in everyone's minds..... |

| Our first dog was a Maltese. I got an emergency call at work, from my wife, that she had "dropped" the pup. Since she didn't drive, and her English was not too good, I raced home and we went to the vet. I told the vet that my wife at "dropped" the pup. My wife emphatically corrected what I said, stating that he jumped out of her arms. Unfortunately, if "we" let our guard down for a moment, this can happen. I think it's important that your son know that he didn't drop the pup. In our case, no harm done to our pup. |

| Best wishes for a speedy recovery. These things truely can happen so fast and it's no ones fault. But I do like the sitting down to hold the puppy rule!! Prevention is the best medicine. Good luck!

| Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | How awful! I am glad she is getting better! I know your son will be super careful from now on, this has probably scared him to death! Tell him accidents happen and the puppy will still love him! Cooper was such a dardevil as a puppy, and he would jump out of my arms if he was ready to play. He never hurt himself, but it could have easily happened. Another thing I noticed with the neighbor kids and out nephews, when they play on the floor with the puppies, they always wanted to sit on their knees and slid around that way. I explained puppies are soooo fast, way faster than them, and they could lose balance and fall on them easy. For that reason, I told them they had to sit with their butts on the floor, and let the puppy come to them! |

| I hope your puppy will be ok. How traumatic for your whole family. About 7 years ago we had rescued a pomeranian. My daughter was carrying him to take him potty outside and he jumped out of her arms, landed on the patio and broke his leg in 2 places. It was so awful! My daughter who was 11 at the time was screaming she killed the dog. I was in the shower, ran downstairs shampoo in my hair, dripping wet with a towel around me, trying to calm my daughter down, see what damage was really done to the dog. I called our vet who said to bring him in. He had surgery to set his leg and a lime green cast for 8 weeks. Accidents do happen. I hope you all are doing well.
