| ![]() The day before yesterday I left Mascot with my sister for 1 evening. My family and I were going to Busch Gardens, 4 hrs away, and decided to leave the night before to get a hotel and be able to hit the gates as soon as they opened. Anyhow, we picked Mascot up yesterday evening and he was acting like he was so thirsty. I gave him water and he lapped it down like he hadn't been given water. This morning Mascot has thrown up everything he tries to eat or drink. So far he has thrown up 5 times. It seems as soon as he swallows the food he throws up, like it never has a chance to make it to his stomach. I called my sister and asked her was he vomiting yesterday. She said he vomited mucos or water once but that was all. I asked her if he ate all right and did he throw up after he ate. She then asked her husband did he give mascot food yesterday, he said no. SO they never even fed him!!!!! ![]()

| ![]() He could have vomitted because his stomach was so empty. I would just keep an eye on him and if if it keeps up then you know it is something more

| ![]() If he can't hold anything down, water or food, you should take him. I would worrry about dehydration if he's not keeping any fluids in. Hope he feels better soon.

| ![]() Could he have swallowed something at your sisters? Maybe since they didn't feed him he ate something off the floor.

Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | ![]() I'm so sorry for Mascot's condition! Any kind of stress can affect our little ones, and have a physical impact. My Abigail has separation anxiety when my daughter (wheelchair) leaves the house. Last week, we took Hannah out, and Abigail was throwing up, before we left the house! However, if Mascot seems unable to swallow, it is a possibility that he got into something - perhaps looking for food? They do tend to get into the darnedest places and eat the weirdest things, if not watched! Perhaps it's a good idea to have him checked for an obstruction. Let us know how he is!

| ![]() I wonder if they gave him something that upset his stomach? Being homesick wouldn't cause him to vomit up everything he tries to eat. The general rule is to rest the tummy for about 12 hours. If you keep offering food, it will just come back up as you have found. After 12 hours, try a little boiled chicken breast and rice, just a spoonful at first. If that stays down, you can wait about a half an hour and try another spoonful. If you have any Pepto Bismal on hand, that will help settle his stomach if he can keep it down. For his weight, he would get a 1/2 teaspoon every four hours as needed. If he doesn't get better, please take him to your vet. I'd be worried about pancreatitis. Yorkies are prone to it. | ![]() Thank you for your posts, I will try the pepto and see if that helps settle his tummy. I am going to take him to the vet in the morning if he continues being unable to hold anything down. So far he is not acting lethargic or sick, but I will watch him like a hawk all day! I will keep posting if he feels better or if I have to take him to the vet. Thanks again for your posts.

| ![]() I hope he feels better soon! Keep a close eye on him...really even 8.5 dog is small and can have big problems if not able to eat or drink. Boiled low fat hamburger and rice and the pepto can really help.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() Something sounds fishy, why would your sister leave the feeding of the dog up to her husband? She has no idea if the dog has eaten while in her care? I'm wondering when she asked her husband the question of, "Have you given him any food", she might have been referring to food, besides dog food. So many members have said that family members have given high fat table scraps to their dogs, and vomiting resulted. He may have answered "no" because he felt guilty. Perhaps approaching the questioning from a different way might get you a truer answer. For example, ask if there was anyway Mascot could have "snuck" some human food? Hope Mascot recovers soon, I would be looking for another pet sitter, though, if I were you.
