| Diarrhea..again & again My little guy has had diarrhea for a week now and I have no idea why....hubby and i thought we had narrowed it down...figured if we removed what we thought the problem was it would go away!...NOT....I have taken a stool sample to be tested and it came back clean....he does great when i give him Imodium.....and he also acts normal!! that is what so confusing to me!! I know my next step is to take him to the vet...but I have been in contact with the vet tec and she said that the most he is going to do is give him some meds or something to stop the diarrhea....Is that not what i ave been doing with the Imodium??....Anyway....I am at my wits end with this!...He gets me up 3-4 times a night and I am Tired!! Mommy needs her sleep!...I feel bad for my little man.....should I be real concerned about this or is this something that will pass??......I also was wondering about his teeth...he has baby teeth that has not fallen out yet...could this be causing him to have diarrha??...it causes it in human babies...why not in puppy?...more than likely he will have to have them pulled... Are all yorkies prone to diarrhea?...my jack never had it!....anyway thanks for letting me rant and i am sorry this turned into a novel! |

| Your baby shouldn't be having diarrhea like that. It's not really normal for it to be happening so consistently. What food is he on? and what treats? Is there any way that someone might be sneaking other foods to him?

| Yorkies can dehydrate very quickly. He needs to see a vet. If it has been going on for a week, just giving meds doesn't seem like enough. What food is he on?

| I know teething can cause the problem. I just want to ask has he been wormed? I mention this because Bud went threw this samething when he was 10mos old. Yes he was wormed as a pup and his stool samples kept coming back negative. After 4mos of this I just switched vet's. The new vet suggested to start from the beginning before testing. He said there are times when a MALE parasite get's into the intestine and can cause this. No eggs show up in the stool because it is a male. He wormed him. Wallah within 24 hours Buddy did a normal poop. I hope it's as easy for your baby as it was for mine. Good luck, |

| I agree...take him to a vet. The vet tech shouldn't be telling you that all the vet will do is give him meds and thats it. I would demand to be seen and have them run test on my baby. This is just the way I am and my vet already knows me. Couple weeks ago Timmy was sick...had upset stomach and was vomiting. The very next morning he was at the vet and stayed there for 4 hours and then they called when it was time to pick him up. I take no chances because they can dehydrate very quick...so my vet knows..IV's, xray, bloodwork...etc. He'll also keep him at the office for a few hours for me if needed. I'm just a worry wart. |

I don't want to scare you but if I'm not mistaking there was another recall on Nutro. I would look into that and also stop giving it to him and your other furkids. Here is the link: Illness, Death Dog Nutro Pet Food

Eggs and/or worms. If it's a male there would be neither, results negative stools. Poor baby. I hope you get answer's soon. My original vet, which I loved, kept telling me it was the food. I bought just about every dry food on the market in four months. I cooked so much white rice and chicken I wanted to puke. I finally gave up and changed vet's. Thank heavens I did. I still like the old vet he just missed something is all. I never went back tho. Last edited by ARCHIE; 08-05-2008 at 11:38 AM.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | This isn't normal, in any way - diarrhea going on and on just isn't normal. He should have a fecal test MORE than once tested for giardia (as giardia hides under scope). Is there blood in the stool? I would switch (immediately, NO transition at all) over to a moderate food like Canidae (unless you're willing to homecook). Do not feed Hills/Science Diet. But, I'd really find a vet who can determine what is going on with this baby.

| I agree with the other posters...I would not feed Nutro at ALL..So many dogs have gotten sick and others have died from this food...
