| Yorkie STRESS..while you take them along on Vacation. Hi, I wanted to hear other stories and experiences regarding your dog experiencing vaction stress, bringing on diarhea and or vomiting. We traveled to Orlando recently, took our pet and had to put him in a kennel three times while there. He did great overall, but on the day we were leaving he started showing signs of diarhea and vomiting. I've taken him to the vet and they diagnosised it as Stress colitis or food indiscretion. (we had given him chicken ordered from the hotel which was suppose to be blan but maybe they condimented it a little.) Has any of you experience something silmilar while you went on vacation and took your pet? Thanks. |

| While I haven't taken Bella and Chloe on a real vacation far from home, I have taken them with me on a 2 hour road trip to the other coast of Florida a couple of times. I stayed in a hotel and they don't seem to mind that at all and they love going with me in their stroller. They people watch, get some extra attention and a few extra treats. The one thing I have consistently noticed with Bella is that she always gets extremely grouchy after a nights stay away from home. She tries to fight Chloe over anything. She will try to attack if Chloe lays too close to her or walks by her too closely. She has tried to fight Chloe when they both wanted in my lap, which never happens at home. The only thing I can think of is that Bella must not sleep very well away from home. Just like a child, she must get grumpy and irritable from a lack of sleep. Also, she is used to napping all day while I am at work and she doesn't get naps on vacation so she must be really sleep deprived lol! Bella definitely needs her beauty sleep.

| mine have been on several vacations - we just got back a week ago from South Dakota, and on 2 different days they were with 2 different pet sitters, but they did ok, even though Roxy had trouble warming up to anyone. I'm wondering if it more likely the chicken or if he picked up something from the kennel. I know one time I came back from a trip where we had been to a dog park, and around several other animals and to another park - Bubba was soooo sick when we got home - we know he picked up something somewhere along the way, we just don't know where But I have not heard of stress illness like that in a dog before

Donating YT 10K Club Member | We've taken 2... Mine say...vacation will almost kill a doggie. Very sleep deprived due to not napping all day. Ramsey will usually skip eating the first day until she gets used to the surroundings. I never kenneled them though...

what do you by mine say? who? Yeah..I definetly think mine was sleep deprived cause he's definetly making up for sleep now.. Frankie did not want to eat his food the first few days we were there. I know a vaction has to be stressful for a doggie, especially if he doesn't understand what exactly is going on. But i choose to take him along cause I think it's just as stressful or even more to leave him home with him missing us. | |

No Longer a Member | Chloe does not eat well at all when she's away from home. When we went to KC, and we were in the hotel, other than only eating about 1/3 what she normally eats, she seemed fine--relaxed, slept well, etc. But when we went camping, she seemed nervous and uncomfortable. It was like she realized the "floor" below her was dirt and leaves, and she said, "Mommy! This isn't right! We are outside; there are ANIMALS out here! I don't belong here!" |
