Sugar in pain- gas? Can anyone think what this could be? Sugar is crying periodically like he is in pain. I always babygate Spike and Sugar in the study (which is open to the rest of the house) for meals (to protect their food from Gracie) and when I'm not home. He woke up acting perfectly normal and pottied normally. I put him in the study with Spike at 9:00 to eat. I was in and out of the study on the computer all morning so he stayed in the study. At noon I let them out to play outside. When I opened the gate he jumped up to run out but started crying like he hurt. I petted him and he stopped crying but when I picked him up he whimpered an little. I manipulated him limbs and pressed around his belly and chest and got no reaction. After that he acted okay. He didn't run around outside, just layed in his bed but that is normal. Our noon outing is really more for Spike to potty and spike and Gracie run around. Sugar always either lays in hiss bed or wants to be held. Around 1:00 he whimpered a little again. Again I looked for the source and couldn't find anything. He was laying on the couch with my daughter and just whimpered some more a few minutes ago. The only reason I haven't called the vet yet is it isn't continuous and I took him to the vet once with similar symptoms and it was gas. A very very expensive case of gas. Sooo, I'm giving it to about 3:00 or 3:30 (EST) before I call to see if it resolves itself. Is there anything else it could be? Like I said it isn't a constant pain and I can't find a source by pressing around. |
Well I couldn't stand it so I just called the vet. They said based on his symptoms it isn't an emergency situation and I can bring him in at 4:20. His gums are pink, no vomiting and no diaharea. She said if it get worse I can just bring him in. His tummy does feel a little tight (I think) so I hope it's just gas. My stomach is hurting from the stress. I can't stand to see him in pain.:( |
Oh Sugar! Let's see, is he bloated at all? Did you put your ear to his belly and listen for awhile (you might be able to hear quite a bit going on in there)? Did he poo okay today? Do you have any pepto on hand? I'd give a good 1/2 tsp right away, then another in an hour if he is still in stress. Are his gums okay, pink and everything? And he was still hungry this a.m.? Oh, you could also give him some soda crackers if you think his belly is upset, along w/ pepto. :) |
Geeze, I just realized this is in the health forum instead of sick forum. Mods, would you mind moving it please? |

I do have pepto so I'll go do that and listen to his tummy. He ate normally this morning and pooped normally. He was completely normal until noon. |
Glad you went ahead and called the vet. I sure hope he gets alot better. Its so sad they can't tell you what is wrong. Keep us updated. |
Also Ann you know how sensitive his system is... Well I've been putting some veggies in their grain. Peas for a week- no problem. Then peas mixed with green beans, no problem. Well this morning I didn't have enough for all trhee so I gave gracie squash and Sugar and Spike the ususal except I gave them each one slice of squash about the size of a dime. Could that little tiny bit be the problem? |

Oh no not Sugar too!!! Poor Sugar and Steddy! I hope he feels better, please update when you're back from the vet! |
He wont take the Pepto and my syringe in ml- does anyone know how muh 1/2 tsp would be in ml? I tried just premeasuring and then loading the syringe but I'm getting too much air. |
Okay, I tried to measure it out with water and it looked like 1 1/2 ml so I just gave him 1 ml to be safe. |
