Oh Brooke, I just know read the post....I am sooo very sorry that little Stedman is having these problems...poor lil guy:(. I just hate it for all of you...I know it has to be so hard. I will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers. Hoping he starts feeling better and better each day from the procedure from today at the vets.

Just read your update....so glad they were able to give Stedman some immediate relief. Will keep him in our prayers for a complete recovery and no surgery needed!:D

Thank you so much Kellie! He is on NV Raw and so is Tatum. They have been on it now for about 4 and 1/2 months, and I know this because I mark EVERYTHING down on my calendar and I just went and checked. They started the NV Raw on March 8th - the exact date. He ISN'T eating alot of fruit and veggies :( Should I be giving them to him on a regular basis?

I will most certainly be watching him like a hawk when I let him out to go potty so see how much he pees. When you mentioned about the color of it in your reply, it did remind me that the vet said that his urine was pretty dark I believe. I just let him outside again about 5 minutes ago and once again, it was just dribble, dribble, dribble :( The thing with him not being able to pee only started yesterday, so if this was the cause of his UTI, then it must of happened very quickly :(

if he's just getting NV raw then i don't see a problem with his diet. less veggies/ fruit is better for them because they can't properly digest these things. I feed NV as well.

Hopefully he just has a UTI and it will go away with meds. He hasn't had these problems before. His urine wil be very dark and concentrated when he does urinate because he's not getting a lot out and its just sitting in his bladder.

Brooke, hoping the night was kind to Stedman and you. It must be the most helpless feeling. I'm so sorry he has to go thru this. Hopefully his antibiotics will start to work for him today and have some kind of relief. I will be praying for your lil' man.:animal-pa

Its a plumbing issue. All parts are kept and a new one is made. The vet surgically makes a hole towards there back end on their under side and reroutes the urethra to urinate through there instead of the penis. the penis is just there for decoration afterwards LOL its a big more complicated then a hole and rerouting but that's the general idea.

I swear, I walk in the door and it's, "HEY BROOKE!!!! :wavey:" - "Hey Steddy, Hey Tator!" - I always tell them...I don't know why you guys act so happy to see us, it's not a GOOD thing that we are in here again ya know" lol.

I don't know why my little ones are always having issues :( They get the best care, the best food, etc. I just don't get it :( Stedman NEVER has any problems, up until now. In fact, before this, the ONLY thing he had been to the vet for, was shots. Except he did have kennel cough when he was little, but they discovered that when he went in for shots because I mentioned it to them. I don't know, I just don't understand. All the dogs that I had before this in my lifetime never had any issues - except my Cocker Spaniel when she got older. We are SO lucky with our babies, because they are perfect for us and we love them, we've just unfortunately got UNlucky with alot of the health issues that they've had :( I know these are things that any baby can get, but dang....it seems like BOTH of my little ones always have something going on :(

Anyway, sorry for rambling...but if anyone knows anything about pet health insurance, I'd love to hear about it. My hubby was looking at some online and several that he found didn't cover half of what Tatum has (all her issues) so that would be pretty useless to us. He did find Purinacare and said that it SEEMED to be pretty good...but who knows.

Ok...hubby and I are off to get something to eat. We're both starving and there is no way I'm cooking tonight after this long day I've had :( Hugs to you all and thank you all again so much for all of your care and concern for my sweet little guy

getting pet insurance this late in the game probably won't help since sted and tate has existing issues. most insurances won't help existing problems. I have it on morgan (i don't know why) and it doesn't cover her LP surgery or any other major surgery (i recently checked) godforbid if she needs it. I'm not getting it for mylie until i leave my hospital job. it does cover vaccines/heartworm/spay/dental stuff but i get a lot of that for free now  so i'm paying monthly for nothing lol

Do you think that sted and tate seem to have more problems then your other ones because you dote on them more? i mean, you pay more attention to every little thing that they do because their so small and certain things you read make you paranoid. When you hear about terrible things that could happen people start to think that when their pet does something weird that their must be something horribly wrong with them.

Honestly i would have never checked morgan for liver issues if i hadn't read about it and became worried from this site. Morgan's fine, but i just HAD to test her because i thought maybe somehow she had a shunt. i'm sure things like this happen to other people here too.

You poor thing

Brooke, First I'm sending you and yours, a big hug and kiss!!!! You've really been through it girl. Stedman my sweet boy, you're a trouper. :thumbup:You are loved across the states. This has been so interesting to say the least. I actually spoke of this issue to friends at work, and my family at home, once I got home from work. I was so concerned ,my home computer fried in a storm last week, and my new laptop had to be sent back, stopped working,so I was without YT communication until work this a.m. SAD!!! I actually should be doing work, but even before coffee(which for me is HUGE) I had to know how you were all doing!!!! Take a deep breath,Brooke. Stedman will be o.k. He will get back on track. With that type of compaction,he probably has old stool in his colon, and that could be what they're seeing.I would just take it one day at a time. Do they know how he got so backed up? Was it due to the round objects. Not to sound ross, but did they examine the "product, once it was out. Does Steddy drink alot of fluids? I just wonder if it's diet related. My pups never seem to drink enough unless I have water all over the house. Prayers will be sent to all involved and you hang in there. You vet sounds wonderful. If you need anything, reach out to your extended family here at YT. This site is truly amazing!!!!

Stedman - I hope you are doing okay today, Sweetie. I've been thinking of you. (hugs)

yougetthesmiles 07-17-2008 04:43 AM

I wanted to check in on lil Steddy and see how he is doing. I did not go back and see how the vet visit went but I will. I hope all went well and Stedman is feeling better... and mommy too!

BLEU BOY BARBER 07-17-2008 04:44 AM

Brooke you and Steddy and Tate and family are in my prayers. I went to bed with you on my mind and I woke up with you on my mind. Will be watching for a update!:)

celstu1 07-17-2008 05:16 AM

I am so glad to hear that Steddy is doing better after his vet appt. I know its scary to think he may need surgery, but it must be such a relief to know whats going on with him and that it can be made better fairly easily. Stedman must feel sooo much better after his visit too! Don't you wish you could put on a muzzle when they are out so they can't eat ANYTHING?? haha Im kidding really, but I just went through stomache issues with both my boys from something they ate somewhere! :(

Big hugs & kisses to stedman! And to you! I hope that the 'stone' passes through him and he does not need surgery. Im praying for you both! :)

ARCHIE 07-17-2008 05:18 AM

I am so happy to see your update Brooke. I will keep your precious
Stedman in my prayer's for a happy outcome. He's a popular little
guy here on YT, we all love him so much. I hope today is a good one
for him and his bowel;s get back to normal with the meds and his
urinary infection clears up and that's the end to his problem's.
Finger's crossed it is. I know the word surgery is frightening, I can
just imagine anyhow. God willing it will never come to that.

Hugs to all of you,

nicksgf 07-17-2008 06:00 AM

It's good to hear you're making a little progress with Stedman! He will remain in our prayers until he is 'going' normally again!

About the insurance, you can search for it on YT - there's one member who works for an insurance company that can give you more information, but I forget who it is. Also check out Pet Insurance Review for reviews on different companies.
But to be honest, it's best to get insurance when they are young healthy pups. I agree with Kellie on this one. Most insurance companies (or maybe ALL) won't cover anything pre-existing. This means that anything already in Stedman's or Tatum's files won't be covered.
So if they do need surgury for some reason the insurance company can say that because they had this-or-that symptom a long time ago it was a pre-existing condition and it won't be covered.
You could always just set up another bank account and every month put $30 or $40 in it, just like you were paying for insurance, and only use this account for vet emergencies! This is almost a better route because even if you don't use it all, you still have the money! And there are no limits on what it will cover!

Keep us updated on Stedman's progress and we hope you find a good solution to the financing!
Hugs from Sarah and Scooter
