stedmansmommy | 07-16-2008 05:12 PM | Finally, An Update... Oh goodness, I don't even know where to begin guys - it's half good half bad  First of all, I just want to tell you all thank you.....SO MUCH for all of your care and concern. I have to be honest and tell you all that I sat here crying reading all of these replies. I really did. I could not believe it when I logged on and saw everyones replies....it just amazed me. Truly amazed me. You guys are the greatest bunch of friends a person could EVER ask for - so thank you, from the bottom of my heart and I mean that. I just don't know how to even put into words how grateful I am that everyone here has been so caring. It means more to me than you'll ever know.
I am SO SORRY that it has taken me practically all day to get an update to you guys, I feel just TERRIBLE about that. I guess I should of mentioned when his vet appointment was - and it wasn't until 3 p.m. this afternoon. Hubby had a super important meeting and was so upset that he couldn't make it with me (he tried...he REALLY tried) so my aunt went with me instead because I was just too darn nervous to go by myself. Anyway, she has been here at my house with the babies and I up until about 20 minutes ago, and I wanted to wait until she left to post an update as I knew that it would take me a while to type everything out and explain it all.
So, here we go. For starters, when we walked into the vets office there were of course other dogs in there and Stedman immediately tried to mark (mind you his belly band was OFF of him). Well, he lifted his leg and was trying so hard and FINALLY after pushing for I don't know how long, it came out, but it was only "drip.......drip.......drip......." - very slowly like a dripping faucet almost. Then he walked away and it just kept dripping out of him :( My poor little angel. So then we go into one of the rooms and the doctor comes in and I explain everything to him and he took the little stick thing and took a stool sample. He noticed right away that his stool was VERY hard.
He then went on to tell me that Stedman needed an enema.....and a catheter  He also told me that he wanted to do some x-rays. Well, he told me that this would probably take around 30 minutes or so, so if I wanted to I could stay there or if I had errands to run or whatever I could go and do that and they would call when they were finished. Well, my aunt and I hadn't ate all day so we went to Sonic which is literally right next door, we then went to the bank and came back by my house to get something - and by that time it had been over an hour since we left the vets office and we still hadn't heard back from them so at this point I was getting very worried. So anyway, we got back in my car and were on our way back to the vets office and while we were on our way there they called me and told me that they had finished with everything and that Stedman was ready but that the vet needed to talk to me before I left.
So I went in and paid my $400 bill :( and then the vet asked to speak to me. He told me that they did the enema and cleaned out his entire colon and that it was completely empty now. He said that the catheter went in fine so that was good news. He then said that he wanted me to come in the back with him because he wanted to show me the x-rays. First, he showed me some spots on the x-rays where they found round things in Stedman's colon. He said that these things were very, very hard and he honestly didn't know what they were. Possibly something that Stedman ate but obviously he couldn't ever pass them. The only thing I can possibly think of is something that he could have found outside at my mom's house when we were over there Saturday night, which is when this whole thing started. Stedman NEVER used to chew on things but Tatum taught him that, so now every once in a while he'll find things on chew on them. We really don't know if that's what it was but can't think of anything else.
Then he flipped to another x-ray and the first thing out of his mouth was, "Now I don't want to scare you...." - ok well, THAT SCARED ME. When someone tells you that they don't WANT to scare you, they usually do  He showed me a spot that was kind of behind Stedman's penis (not really sure how to describe where it was) and he said that it could possibly be a stone, he's not quite sure exactly what it is at this point. He said that he really wants to keep a close eye on that and he sounded very concerned about it  He said that if it is a STONE, then it will more than likely have to be removed surgically
So Stedman has to go back in next week (on Wednesday) because he wants to check him out again and see how everything looks. He said that he DOES have a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection). He is on antibiotics and also some stuff called Laxatone (it's in a tube just like Nutri-Cal and you give it to them the same way as Nutri-Cal) to help him go to the bathroom (bowel movement). He said that he SHOULD have a bowel movement within 1-2 days but if he doesn't then he needs to see him again right away.
I am just really worried about that spot that he found that he showed me on the x-rays. He seemed concerned about it but I know he was trying his best not to scare me. He is just the SWEETEST vet anyone could ever ask for. I just love him. He is a recent graduated of Texas A&M and is just absolutely wonderful.
Anyway, I am so worried but as he said, we just have to keep a close eye on it. I hope that it is nothing worse and I hope and pray to God that Stedman doesn't need surgery
That is the update for now and I will be sure to let everyone here know if anything should change. Right now I just want to go hug my little boy. We've both had such a long day and he has been through alot  Thank you all again so, so much for your care and concern...I just can't say thank you enough - I love you guys so much :ghug: |
