| Irrigular Heartbeat? I noticed Benny was making funny noises last night while he slept, so I put my ear on his chest. I herd what sounded like swallowing (probably nothing) I also noticed his heart beat was in threes. I'm not sure if this is normal but I checked again this morning and it was the same thing as last night. Then I noticed it would occasionally change to two beats. It was kinda like this: BEAT..BEAT..BEAT........BEAT..BEAT..BEAT.......BEA T..BEAT.........BEAT..BEAT..BEAT Is this normal? What should I do? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Unless you have a stethoscope at home, I wouldn't totally trust your ear - bc breathing in/out can sometimes mask a beat enough to the point where you think it's "dropped". Have you tried palpating the beat? I.e., placing two fingers over his heart while he is still and feeling the rhythm? Try that. If you really do feel it's abnormal, it's definitely something you'll want to get checked out right away.

| I really don't know much about doggie cardiology but I do know that dogs' hearts don't have to have a rhythm. Ellie's heartbeat is sporadic. It seems to stop for a second or two and then beats a couple times pretty fast for a few seconds (maybe two or three times in quickly)... The vet hasn't said anything about it and I think it is normal. That doesn't mean what is going on with your dog is normal though, so when in doubt talk to your vet.
