| Lyme Disease - I HATE ticks A few weeks ago I had taken Andrew to the vet because he had started to limp on his front right leg. At times he was holding it up and really favoring it. They had given him anti-inflammatories and it seemed to have settled down. Over the past 10 days, he was acting lethargic, felt warm and started to limp on his front leg again. I took him to the vet today and he tested positive for lyme disease. I was shocked to say the least. He's been treated with Advantix and I only recall finding one tick on him this spring. He's on antibiotics now and the vet sent off the test to see how much lyme is in his system. For those not using Advantix or something similar....it must be done in addition to their vaccinations against Lyme disease. Hopefully he'll be feeling better soon.

| I'm really surprised how many vets give this vaccine: Lyme Disease - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company! It can be considered very dangerous and there are even some reports of the vaccine causing Lyme's Disease.

| My shepard had lyme about 5 years ago and I was using frontline at the time. She was fine one day then the next she could bearly get up. The vet put her on meds for two weeks I think, but did not tell me that dairy product could affect the meds. When we changed vet she was still testing a low postive and thats when the new vet told me about the dairy, and I was using cheese to hide the pill. Today she is 12 years old and looks great, no problems getting around at all. I'm glad to hear your little one is felling better. |

| thanks everyone! Andrew is really coming around and acting more like himself. Even trying to steal the soccer ball away from Jaxon. We should hear from the vet on Monday about his bloodwork and how high the lyme levels are in his system. He'll continue the meds for the full 2 weeks.

| Glad to hear your little one is doing better. I worry about Lyme's disease here and also question whether I should get the vaccine or not. |

| I am so sorry! Sending good thoughts and prayers his way. Thank you so much for this thread. A)I never knew dogs could get this B)I didn't know about the vaccine at all C)I didn't know about the controversy over the vaccine and will do the research D) I have to get Gizmo's new Frontline on Monday, and I almost forgot!

| After going through this, there is no question the vaccination is needed if they come in contact with ticks at all plus of course the monthly treatment like Advantix or Frontline.

| Andrew keep feeling better!! I had Winston outside this spring for just a few minutes in the grass and he had one already. I have had quite a few too working in the yard/landscape. I really think they are extra bad this year here. I hate them...hatethemhatethem!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | It is possible to have a false-positive reading on Lyme's tests, in fact it's not unusual according to our MD. So I'm wondering if this is true with dogs?
