Default New Here

Hi All:

This is my first post here and I'm very scared for my baby. I hope you guys can help me.
Her name is Zima and she will be 14 this August.
We took her to Florida last week by car....we live in NJ. She is not a very good traveler, and in the past, I would give her a "chill pill" from the vet, given2 hours prior to travel. These pills never really did too much...just kinda took the edge off. And we didn't really go too far....1 1/2 hours. Vet also give me Frontline due to fleas in Fla.
For the Fl trip, I gave her 1 pill the nite we left, and she was ok...kinda antsy, but not too bad. But we had to stop and get a room after 6 hrs. Day 2 same thing..not too bad, but again had to stop in 6hrs not only because she was antsy, but when I walked her on one of our breaks, she must have stepped in gasoline or diesel fuel. I gave her a quick bird bath in a sink at the gas station, then when we got to the hotel, again a tub bath. Day 3 we start out and I gave her the pill and she reacted to it in less than 5 minutes and I was freaked out. She came out of it in a few hours, but I swore I'd never giver her another pill. Return trip home, I didn't give her a pill and she panted all the way to Ga. Day 2 she was really freaking out in the car, so I did give her a pill and she was out in 2 seconds. I got REALLY scared!!! I cursed myself for giving it to her. Anyway, she pooped a little while she was asleep and when we stopped for a break, she fell limp in my arms...like a ferret. We drove 12 1/2 hrs to get home...I just wanted her to get to her own house thinking she'd be ok. Then entire time home, when we did stop, I would walk her and she was ok, but back in the car she was out cold. At home, she was doing better and thought she just needed a few days to get over the trauma of the trip, etc. Well, it's now day 4 since we got home and she eating, drinking, barking etc, but she's just not herself. Prior to the trip, a few times she pee'd in bed, but last nite she did it, but A LOT. This evening, while she laying on the couch she did it again, and I noticed that when she was walking a few times, she kinda feel over. I am taking her to the Vet tomorrow, but was just wondering if this happened to any of you. I don't know if this has anything to do with the gasoline incident...the trauma of travel for a senior baby or what the heck is going on here. I'm really, really scared right now.
Anyone have any ideas, suggestions.

Thank you,
Zimasmommie

Oh, ps...
she did have a few fleas on her..I gave her a bath and haven't seen anymore on her.

Oh my!! I'm so sorry. I would be so scared. There are so many variables here, I wouldn't venture to suggest what might be the cause. But it certainly sounds like it's gone on long enough. I would get her to the vet and make sure the poor dear is okay.

Please let us know what the vet says. It might end up something that might help someone else.

Hugs and prayers for your baby to get better.

Did you put the Frontline on her? She could have had a reaction to it or a reaction to the combo of the relaxant and flea meds. Hope Zima will be OK and hoping for a positive update!!

The vet put the Frontline on her a few days prior to us leaving.

She pee'd in bed again last nite. This is not good. I'm worried that she is in renal failure or something to do with her kidneys.

I'm having such anxiety here, I hardly slept last checking on her.

I will never forgive myself if something happens to her. Although the reason we went to Fla. was to visit a very sick friend. She is not doing well and we wanted to see her...we had to see her! I found out last nite that she is in the hospital again. Her prognosis is not good.

Thank you all for your replies.

BTW ... welcome to YT. I'm sorry that your friend isn't doing well ... perhaps the news today will be better.

Welcome to YT. Please update us after you see the vet.

Why do you think renal failure? How close was your trip down & back - did your vet realize how many times she would take the medicine during your travels? Just wondering if it was too much for her system

My Lady will be thirteen this year so I know how scared you must be. Everything is so serious with seniors, isn't it?

I'm glad you are taking her to the vet. Make sure she has a full geriatric profile. That will alert your vet to anything that may be "off".

I'll be praying for Zima. Please let us know what your vet says.

I am just so freaked, and when you start reading on the internet, it could be so many things. ..renal failure being one of them. She just pee'd on my leg while I was holding her on my lap. But otherwise, she's eating drinking etc. She's just not her ole self...doesn't play with her toys...when she pee pee's on the pad she always digs the carpet after...she hasn't done that..also has feel over a few times like she was drunk. I took her for a walk and collected urine and poop for the vet to check today.

The trip was too fast. We left on Tuesday nite, got there Thursday afternoon, started our return Sunday and arrived home MOnday nite. So it was a very long time in the car in a short amount of time. We did stop in hotel 2x on the way down, but only once coming home. So many strange surroundings for a little one that hardly leaves home.

Thank you everyone for your concern and love for Zima.

I'll will update when I get home. Her appt. is 12:30.
