Judy, I just got home and caught up on the posts and watched your new vid of Bernie walking on all legs! Yay Bernie boy!!

Maybe the time of rest has really helped and, if it's his back, that makes sense. But you are right, it doesn't change anything.

Be careful there little buddy. Just take it slow and easy flot awhile. Tink sends you some nose licks.:)

Hey! Yes, we are keeping him as calm as possible. He's not actually using leg #4, but he's moving along pretty well anyway. :) Hope we can figure out what is going on, but at least my breathing has returned to normal;) .

Tink, Bernie sends nose licks right back!!!

LOL, he is taking it easy. I'm making sure of that. Since I still have no idea what happened and he still isn't using it, I'm not convinced this is a permanent improvment, but it is nice to see him moving around and out of bed.:) I'm hoping for answers tomorrow.

Oh, oops. I better go back and watch that video again. Just seeing him walking was such a surprise. I simply assumed all 4 were on the ground!:D

Well, after his burst of energy he's just been laying around. He did get up to eat his dinner and go outside, but I think he's done for the night. However, he's much more alert and interested in what is going on than he was. Right now he's snuggled up against me...he and I have always been close, but he seems REALLY attached now.

Well, we are off for more tests/x-rays etc... They want me to leave him for awhile.:( :( :( I don't know who will be more heartbroken...me or Bernie.

Quick update: He's his usual happy self this am...no use of that back leg though. He's gotten pretty good at movin' around on the other three.
I'm beginning to think it must be either a back problem or a neurological one....what's puzzling is the 2-1/2 days where he didn't want to move at all. That makes me think back. Having seen what dh goes through, this is actually very similar.

I'll post an update when I know more!

Good morning Judy. I've been off the computer since last Fri am and was
so sorry to see this morning that our fellow Teapot Bernie is not feeling
well. I was so happy to see the video where he did walk across the room
pretty fast. I do hope they find out today what's wrong with our friend
and get him fixed up good as new. Hope there is no more surgery for him
though. We pray that meds are all that will be needed.

Looks like my Bernie bear is going to need more surgery. It appears that the pin (not the plate) has migrated a bit and will need to be removed. I've decided to have him go to a surgeon in a nearby city who comes very highly recommended. We will be seeing him later this week. In the meantime, Bernie's on pain killers tonight. He's in a lot of pain from having the leg manipulated today and he just cries if I'm not right there beside him. It's breaking my heart. He seems most comfortable in his dog bed, so its on the floor next to me. He's got his paws wrapped tight around my foot.:( I know it could be so much worse, I'm just so sad right now. I was hoping for better news. By tomorrow I'm sure I'll have a more positive outlook...but right now I'm just feeling awful for my baby.

Bernie sends his love to all of you who have been so caring. Thank you.

We'll continue to keep you posted.

Oh I'm sorry! I was hoping to come check the thread tonight and see that he was feeling better.

When my guys had their knees done I was told there's a chance of the pins migrating. They told me sometimes they poke through the skin and then they can be removed right then and there and sometimes it's requires a surgical removal. I was also told it's a quick surgical procedure.

I'm hoping that's the case for Bernie. Is there anyway you can get him in any sooner? Maybe if you tell them he's in a considerable amount of pain?

Aw, Bernie! Well judy, glad it's not a ruptured or herniated disk. This at least can be fixed. The other, you never know about.

I hope you can get some sleep tonight while Bernie is sleeping. Glad he's home with you.

Thanks everyone! Susie is right, this is fixable. I know I'll feel better about it all in the morning. He's just so miserable right now. I'm really feeling bad about leaving him today...I got up a minute ago to help dh with something (5 feet away) and Bernie just started to cry and cry...oh man. I just feel so darn helpless.

I just keep saying "it'll all be over soon."
