| My babies injured leg! So, Wednesday late afternoon I had my mom here at my home watching my kids because I was having an appointment at the hospital about 1 hour away. She has a huge (90 pound) yellow lab that is 8 years old (Duke). She ended up bringing him over to my home during the time that she was here because he loves playing outside with the kids. Well during the time that they were playing outside my mom let my little yorkies out to come run around also while the kids were jumping on the trampoline. (My yorkies LOVE duke and he is always so gentle with them) well apparently Duke got a streak of energy and was run full force around and around the trampoline and my little baby Meeka was trying to run with him and go tangled under his legs. She was screaming and my mom immediately brought her inside where my husband was getting ready for work. He checked her out (He used to be an paramedic) to see if she might have a broken bone or anything. Nothing seemed to be wrong at first maybe just a bruise or something but he went to pick her up under her chest and she started screaming and crying. My mom instantly brought her to the local vet (Not my regular vet) and he checked her out and said that she had an injury on her right back knee. My mom opted not to get xrays and just to get a shot for pain and that I would take her to my regular vet in the morning. That night she was pretty out of it from the shot and stayed laying in her bed in the kitchen. At one point I went in there to check on her and she attempted to get up and hobble on 3 legs out of her bed. And the poor sweet little girl went over to go pee on her potty pad but when trying to squat down she fell over. I was horrified! But she got right back up no crying, whining or anything and was perfectly fine hopping around on her 3 legs but will not put ANY pressure on her injured leg. So I took her to my vet today, he had me leave her there so that he could do a very detailed exam and gave me a call a few hours later telling me that he needed to do xrays because there was swelling on the knee, but he will need to sedate her to do it so that he can feel around a little better because when he touches it now it causes her so much pain. So I tell him to go ahead and do it but then I am told that it's too late in the day for them to do it today because it takes a few hours for her to come out of sedation and want me to bring her in tomorrow morning. So the outcomes are that it's just a soft tissue injury and will need nothing more than rest and some pain medication to keep her comfortable. Or that she completely tore her ligament and will require surgery to fix it, that she just has a small tear in her ligament and will require a splint and pain meds or that it's a hairline fracture and will require the same treatments as the small tear in her ligament. So now I am just pacing so worried that something is horribly wrong! I am trying not to be upset about it all with my mom because I know she didn't mean any harm but I have never let them in the yard with Duke before just for fear of someone getting hurt because of his size. He's fine with them in the house. I am just praying that my little baby will be alright and that she'll pull out of this will no awful side effects such as a long term limp or pain in that joint! Prayers for my baby Meeka would be greatly appreciated! My poor sweet little girl! I will update tomorrow after I get the call from the vet after he gets the xrays back! Thanks so much!! |

| I am so sorry! I am praying for you and Meeka. Please keep us updated. BTW...going through all of the 'what ifs' over and over in your head tonight, won't help much, but I think you know that. Just try to leave it in God's hands for tonight and get some sleep. You will need every ounce of energy and strength you can muster tomorrow to deal with whatever happens. Hugs from one worry-wart yorkie mommy to another.

| Your poor little baby. These things can happen, I'm sure your mom feels bad. Hopefully it is not too serious and she will be just fine. I can understand your worrying, they are so small, we always fear the worst. Good wishes coming your way. Sheilagh

Judy in Waco has taken the words I was thinking. She always seems to know the right thing to say. I wish I had her gift of gab and compassion. She has a big heart. Love4Bella, that does not mean I do not wish the best for your baby. I am keeping you in my thoughts now. Aren't we all worry warts when it comes to our babies???

| Oh, this is terrible for you and your baby. I'm so sorry this happened and will be praying that it turns out to be something that doesn't need surgery. I would probably be bawling my eyes out seeing the little one in so much pain. Please let us know as soon as you find out something. |

| I'm sorry to hear she was injured, but accidents are very common in these tiny ones. I do hope it's nothing more than a bad sprain. Hugs for Meeka from me and my gals. |

| Thank you all for all the well wishes and prayers!! I just got a call from the Vet and he said that after doing the xrays and playing around with her knee for a while he thinks that it is nothing more than a small tear in her ligament. He is putting her leg in a wrap and wants for her to do nothing but lay down for 4 or 5 days and then no running after that for about 2 weeks. (How in the world am I going to keep my yorkie down for that amount of time? LOL) I am so thankful that everything is going to be ok! I did not sleep a wink last night and have been sick to my stomach all day waiting to hear what the outcome would be! I am leaving to go pick her up now! Thanks again ladies for all of your thoughts! I really appreciate it!! Bella and Meeka are grateful also! Bella will soon have her favorite playmate back, she's been so depressed since this all happened to Meeka! |
