Prayers going out for you and your baby.:animal-pa |
It is so nice to keep coming back to this thread and see all the continued words of encouragment. Thank you! When I went to pick Sebastian up from the vet (to take him to the ER for the night) I found out that during his second blood transfusion he started having an irregular heart rate so they had to stop the transfusion. When I got him to the ER they finished the blood transfusion and he was fine. However I was a little discouraged because when they took his red blood count it only went from 16,00 to 17,000. They are really hoping that he stays stable at 16,000 through the night and that by tomorrow the zinc will have worked out of his system enough for his red blood cells to start building back up or at least to stabilize and stop depleting. His blood is still not coagulating properly, but it hasn't gotten worse at least. They will watch him tonight and hopefully he won't need another blood transfusion and hopefully he makes it through the night. They will redo his bloodwork at around 1am to check his levels. If he's not stabilized by morning we will be going under the care of the internal medicine specialist. I'm really, really tired so this is all I can think to update right now. I hope it somewhat made sense. He just looks so pitiful it breaks my heart to see him like this. And, I hate that I can't be there with him all the time. It's only been 36 hours since he was hospitalized but it feels like an eternity :( |
I've always been afraid of my babies swallowing a penny, but I had no idea! Hang in there; you have all of us praying for you. And try to get some rest. |

I hate to hear the transfusions don't seem to be doing the trick w/ his blood, but I am happy to hear that he is wanting to eat. Sounds like he is a fighter, has a good vet, and a very good and worried mommy. Again I am praying for you. :hands: |
Think positive.Hope he does well through the night and you will have better news in the morning. |
Poor little baby. I'm sure he wants to get better soon so he can come home to his mommy. Prayers on their way from us for a big turn around tonite and continued improvement. ((Hugs)) |

Thank you for update. I am sorry that it has happened to you. Still praying for you guys:hands: Stay positive your baby needs that. You will see in no time he will be running around like nothing had happened;) |
I hope we'll hear good news tomorrow that the transfusions are working and his RBC count is higher. |
I just caught this thread. I'm so sorry this is happening. I'm praying for a good night, and that he keeps up his strength through this. |
Prayers for your sweet Sebastian - have you spoke to the vet this morning? Will he stay at the ER vet or go back to the other vet? My daughter swallowed a penny as a toddler - there are so many danger even in a child, it can affect their breathing, etc. we were fortunate it had dropped into a safer area & just had to wait for it to come out of her body on its own. But I'm thinking my toddler was huge compared to your sweet baby, so I can imagine how truly dangerous this situation is. Prayers for you too hon |
Hear is hopeing sweet Sabastian is having a better day and for a positive report! Will check in later on Hugs Vicki |
praying for good news today...hoping the transfusions worked and he is doing better. |
Sending more prayers for your little one. Question- Did they rule out more than One coin? |
They did rule out more than one penny. They said that because he is so small the zinc levels got really high (in proportion to his little body). They were able to get much higher much faster than they would have in a larger dog, which is why it's taking him so long to get rid of the zinc. This morning Sebastian was transferred from the ER to the Internal Medicine Specialist (located in the same building thankfully!). I talked to the Internal Medicine Specialist on the phone. She said last night he had to have another blood transfusion. But, since that transfusion his numbers have stayed stable. His red blood count is still quite low, but it at least isn't depleting at this point. Which is good because they said they've reached the maximum amount of blood that they can safely transfuse in a 24 hr period. So, hopefully the numbers at least stay stable for today. His coagulation (clotting) time has improved a little bit too, so that is a good sign. He is now going to stay with the internal medicine doctor for up to three days, he will transfer to the ER at night for monitoring, but as the patient of the internal medicine doctor. Now that he's at the specialist I am certain that he is receiving the best treatment possible. Now we just have to hope that he keeps improving. The only other scary thing is that the anemia and the medications he's on for the anemia can cause damage to the liver and kidneys. But, they monitor the liver and kidneys when they do the bloodwork and so far they are ok, so we will just hope that they continue to be ok. I'm going to go visit him this afternoon. I miss him so much! Thanks again for all the prayers and support! I know they are helping and they lift my spirits too. |
Poor little guy, prayers are with him, lets hope he will improve today and gets to come home soon ! |
Thank you for the update - you've provided me with some specific things to pray about. It sounds like he is receiving excellent care and even your first vet knew what to do - that is so wonderful! Will you get to visit your boy? |
Yes, I'm going to go visit him this afternoon. And, I got to visit with him several times yesterday during the transfers. |
Mascot I am glad he is at a stable point!!! Whew!!! I will keep praying till he is out of the woods. Thanks for the update! I'm happy you can see your baby today, gives him hugs from all of us on YT!!!! Dot |
Thanks for the update. I will be saying special prayers that he recovers soon. Give him a tummy rub from me. Sheilagh |
