I'm so sorry you're going through this & pray your baby will pull through okay... I'm in So. Maryland and glad to have you and your baby with us where you'll get plenty of support.

Thanks for all the get well wishes again!

I called the vet to check on him. I guess his red blood cells had dropped to 16,000 as of noon, and so they started him on a blood transfusion. The good thing about them being so small is that one pint of blood can give them several transfusions if needed. I guess also his coagulation time was prolonged (meaning the blood is having trouble clotting) and that has continued to get worse as well. They gave him a medicine that is supposed to help bind up the zinc in his system so he can try to get rid of it easier. I guess it takes 24-48 hours for that to start working. So, things are not going very well. But, the vet said the good news is that he's still very alert and he's not showing signs of internal bleeding yet. I'm supposed to call back between 4pm and 5pm to find out how he is. I will update again then.

So sorry for you and your furbaby! I wish there was something I could do, but will def. will be praying for your puppy. They are so much like little babies. Anything that isn't nailed down will go into their mouths.

Our little girl who is now a year and a half tried to swallow a piece of plastic Sat. and got it stuck in her throat. I could feel it, but couldn't retrieve it and while I was trying to look, she was thrashing around. Finally, we had to take her to the ER vet because I didn't want to stick tweezers down her throat and couldn't see anyway. The minute she out of her carrier, and the tech opened her mouth it popped out, thank heavens! I have no idea where she found it. We are so careful about keeping things picked up off the floor, but they find stuff you'd never see.

Will be checking for updates, I hope everything goes well.

Oh my, I am so sorry the update is a bit concerning. Prayers from our house to yours. This hits so close to home for all of us because it could happen to any of us.

I will check in again to see how you're all doing. And you hang in there too. I know how emotionally draining this is. So the prayers are for all of you!

I am so sorry to hear about your little one. Prayers are coming from our home to yours....my babies are so dear to me....I can't imagine what it would be like to loose one. Keep us posted.:rose40:

WOW...My 6 yr old grandson swallowed a nickel last yr, they xrayed and the DR said to let it pass naturally...it did.
I just found a red button in one of my Yorkies poop....at least it came out...

I have heard of pennies being toxic to animals but I thought it had to be more than one penny.

Omg... I\'m so sorry you and your baby is going through this. I had a friend that went through the same thing with her pekingese, except she had to have surgery. You will be in our thoughts and prayers today. We pray that it\'s nothing too serious and for a speedy recovery.

Just talked to the vet again. I guess the blood transfusion didn\'t do too much for him. His red blood cell count was at 16,000 before the transfusion, and went up to 18,000, and is now back down to 16,000. So, they are going to give him more blood before they transfer him to the ER tonight. They will be keeping him on IV fluids tonight and watching his blood count and giving blood as needed. They did a test to make sure his kidneys are ok, and they still look fine, so that is good. He also ate a bowl of food and was trying to get his IV out so that is good too they said. So, for how low his blood count is he\'s acting surprisingly well. That gives me hope. The vet consulted with a specialist and he said that it can take 48-72 hours before they start turning around, and the most important thing in the mean time is to try to keep their blood level up and keep them stable.

Thank you for updating us... I wish I could just hug ya you sound down and out just keep in mind it will be over before you know it and he will be running and playing.. I can not wait to grow with him

It is amazing what vets can to these days. I had a female once that nearly died from a uterus infection but the vet saved her by giving her a blood transfusion with blood from a donating Great Dane. I tell everyone that Sassy is part Great Dane..hehe. Anyway, it sounds like your baby is in very good hands. We will continue to pray and we really appreciate the updates.
