This is the time that it is really needed.. I wish I had, had it when Babybear was going through all of this... So that is why I am around to help others when they are dealing with it.. |
Excellent, and I am so very happy to hear this news. Pls. keep us updated. |
I am so happy Lucy is out of surgery and breathing on her own...prayers going out for her speedy recovery...huggs for Mommy |
We need a live Lucy Cam feed! I just can't stop thinking about her! |
I want to thank you all so much for all your support. Especially Vicki and Val. If Vicki hadn't posted about Bleu's problem I never would have known anything about AAS/AAI. I would have still taken her to the specialist, because I knew she couldn't go on like that, but I wouldn't have known where to steer them. When the neurologist came in to see Lucy, she chuckled and said, "I hear you've been on the internet". I explained all about Bleu and Baby Bear and that we weren't trying to diagnose her ourselves, we just wanted to make sure she checked for that. Because, I seemed to know what I was talking about and could pinpoint the exact trauma, I didn't have to wait for them to go through all the other tests that Bleu and Bear had to to check for liver shunt, etc. They went right ahead and did the x-rays and CT scans and she was in surgery within a couple of hours. I was on pins and needles waiting to hear from them. By the time I finally got the good news, I was exhausted. I realized I hadn't slept accept in snatches the whole week. I took a little rest, that's why I didn't post right away. Val called though and said she'd post the good news for me. Then Vicki called and I knew you all would be informed. I am truly grateful for all the prayers and candles. I feel that all those prayers helped pull Lucy through. If she had died, at anytime, I would have been devastated, but to lose her on my birthday would have been the worst. I didn't visit her tonight, as the vet an I both decided it would be best. So I will see her in the morning before I go home. Then I will come back and get her in a couple of days. I have three more Yorkies being boarded and need to get home to see to them. One is expecting. |
I am so happy to hear the good news...praying that Lucy can feel your love wrapped around her ...praying for Mommy to get some rest... |
I hope you get some rest, sounds like you'll need it. I wish I was closer and could help you out. |
I can't believe I missed all of this. I'm so glad Lucy was diagnosed and made it through surgery!!! I personally know of 5 successful AAI/AAS surgeries now (3 of which I have met in person). Please continue to update us on Lucy! I'm so glad she's doing okay now, and I hope she has a fast recovery |

Any updates? |
Janice just called she talked with a sigh of relief because her baby is ALIVE!!!! Those were her exact words to me LUCY IS ALIVE! Folks I do not know if you understand but this is one of the most major surgeries a yorkie can go through and their chances are slim to none! She got to see Lucy this morning. Lucy is in a great deal of pain. She is discussing with them something to stabilize her neck as well as more pain meds....Lucy is not in a cast.... I am concerned about that but others yorkie parents have done well and they were not in a cast either.. It may depend on the dog.. I am not sure.. I do know this.. I know that if a human breaks their neck they are in a neck brace! Why are all these dogs not being braced or casted I dont know...... I do know Janice is the best mom and is doing everything in her will power to get the best care for Lucy....I commend her 100% Janice is on her way home be sure and leave her birthday wishes. Her birthday was yesterday. She will update the site soon.... I got cut off with her as my phone went dead ... Will update as soon as I hear anything ! Hugs Vicki |
Thanks Vicki, I have been anxiously awaiting any news. I will continue to keep you ALL in my prayers....:heart to |
Thank you for the update. Sending hugs and prayers to Lucy and her Mom!! |
I need to reply to this one... I think you and I talked about this Vicki.. (It may depend on the dog.. I am not sure.. I do know this.. I know that if a human breaks their neck they are in a neck brace! Why are all these dogs not being braced or casted I dont know......) I know of at least one pup that was casted and ended up with pressure sores and died from the sores.. This is why the vets choose to not cast these pups the majority of the time.. Babybear was not casted or neck braced.,. I made him a neck brace because I did not feel comfortable with out one.. I consouled a Vet first.. And I took some matterial and quilters batting and made Babybear three or four of them.. So when one was dirty I could throw it in the wash..And so on.. Before Bleu Boy I had only seen Sedrick that had the cast and we had a pup on another group that had a neck brace but was always tripping on it.. Mom was scared of further injury so she asked for it to be removed.. If the pups are kept calm and quiet(some need sadation(SP)) some can be kept quiet because they are very mellow after surgery..Sorry I just needed to chime in on that.. I really wish that the vets could give Lucy something better for the pain.. But it is a very painful surgery as most are.. YOu that have seen your pups after LP surgery know this and are upset when you know the meds are not working right.. I think they need to re-adjust her pain meds.. I wonder if they used a I believe it is a Fentinal patch.. Someone please correct me if I am wrong..This might manage Lucy's pain better.. Janice..I hope you made it home safe and sound.. And to the love of your other babies.. Hope no new ones arrived without you.. And we are continueing to pray that Lucys continues to do well.. You are the best mom for going through everything you have gone through with Lucy.. Lucy please get better really soon.. And we hope that the pain stops soon.. Real soon.. |
Fentonol is exactly what Bleu had I totally reccommend it! |
Well deserved Birthday wishes Janice, though you've made it over a tough bump in the road do not forget that God is with you at all times. He gives us trials because he know's we are strong enough to handle them.. That means even though we feel stronger with our friends and family behind you you still are strong.. God does everything for a reason and I'm a firm believer in that. Though I've not gone through anything that you are currently I have been tested and trialed and I still am.. Keep holding your head up high because that is were it should be.. You will always have your family and your friends (including your YT family) with you always and in prayers. |
My nLucy Another candle lite for that precious baby. |
Janice, I hope your precious baby is back home with you safe sound and pain free, very soon. Belated Happy Birthday Wishes being sent your way :) |
Janice, You and Lucy are still in my prayers. I know God has his loving arms wrapped around you and your little baby. Just lean on Him and He will get you thru this. I wish you a happy belated birthday. Vicki, thanks so much for the update. |
Thank you so much for the update Vicki. God bless Lucy. I will continue to keep both of you in my thoughts and prayer's. Hang in there little Lucy. You made it threw surgery for a reason. You and mommy will be together for years to come. Happy Birthday to you too Janice. |
I've never heard of a dog being casted after neuro surgery before until i heard bleu's story. The neurologist and the orthopedic surgeons i work for do not cast their patients and they do very very well. In fact we did a cervical disc two days ago and i saw that dog walking pretty well today. So not casting i believe is more common then casting. |
