I am glad it is just the head tilt but an acupuncture treatment or 2 may help with this.

I am sorry you have so much on your plate, is there anyone who can help lighten your load as you go into the final weeks of the semester? It sounds like you have a lot of stress -- I have been there before - lived that way for yrs & yrs - and consciously decided not to have dogs for several yrs because of the amt of responsibility they require - so I know how overloaded you must be. I went thru a very stressful time with 2 aging dogs that made it hard to be all I wanted to be for them. I could have used more help, but didn't know how to ask for help. Please ask for assistance if you need it - this does not make you weak, but will make you stronger.

MRI's, neurologists, specialists, and/or surgery is extremely expensive. Where i live an MRI is at least $1500 and then the visit to the neurologist plus surgery is at least $6000. Not many people can come up with $7500 + in such a short period of time. Care credit is not going to help much, they probably won't even cover half, and that's even IF she is approved. There is only so much one person can do.

I'm sorry, but i think Maureen and Lori's comments were rude and unnecessary.
I doubt anyone would even believe me if I posted how many bills i've racked up from vet trips.

A little off topic (sorry to steal the thread for a sec), but I've often worried about some of our members who speak English as a second language (as well as different ages, education levels, and computer skills). Chinovince, I'm sorry if you ever felt wary of posting. I am proud of YT's world-wide status. They may have missed words or tired of trying to express every detail that would help us get a good complete picture of the situation.

i know its tough and expensive but you are taking care of it. If you hadn't done anything then i could see a reason for people to question what your doing for cosmo but that is not the case here. Just ignore the negative comments, your always going to have a few on an open forum, and know that the majority of us know you love cosmo and are doing everything you can for him. A head tilt from a stroke does not require a neurologist to look at him and there is no need for surgery. acupuncture may or may not help. i do not have any experience in that field but if you have the money and somewhere you can go i'd say its worth a visit to check it out.

right now he just needs to take it easy. keep an eye on him and if anything else unusual happens in addition to the head tilt then take him in for a recheck.

i'm glad he's doing better now. the tilt might even go away in time.

I'm glad Cosmo is doing better.

Can I ask why the vet now thinks Cosmo had a stroke? I know he fell off the table and injured himself. And from my understanding a stroke is caused from a bloodclot in the brain cutting off blood supply and oxygen to an area of the brain which causes the stroke. I'm in a neurology class right now which is very interesting but unbelievably chalenging and I'm learning constantly so I'm genuinely interested in how the vet arrived at the stroke diagnosis after his injury.

the person who judges can never understand the personal feeling for the whole thing, it is easy to say from other's mouth what should be done and not be done etc.... (they think that they are right of course, in which what is to be right or wrong, who is the best judge?), it is not easy to keep calm seeing the whole thing through.
hurt is hurt, no excuse!?

you see cosmo is the type who sleeps all day all night and barely does anything else...we figure something HAD to have happened to him on top of the table then fell and hurt himself he always would climb up there and come down safely it just doesnt make sense that he would fall out of no where like that

So the vet thinks he had a stroke which caused him to fall off the table and injure himself? Did he find proof of a stroke or is that just what he suspects?

no no the vet didnt say that..the vet said he wants to wait and see because he doesnt believe in doing anything to the dog or medicating him if he doesnt need it

like he said to ween cosmo off the pain medication and see how he reacts..so we did that and he doesnt seem to be in pain anymore..he doesnt yelp or anything like he used to its just that his head is tilted

i'm getting the stroke part from friends who have seen cosmo and had the same past experience with their own dog so if you think about about it..he has no pain, the xray doesnt show anything abnormal, and hes acting like his old self it fits the puzzle but when i take him back to the vet tomorrow im going to bring it up

ive been doing research on it, and it makes A LOT of sense when i think about cosmo

oh okay. It's always good to discuss anything you suspect with your vet. I do want to point out though that a lot of things don't necessarily show up on x-rays which is why MRIs are usually the next step when something neurological is involved. I'm glad he hasn't been in any pain and is doing a lot better and hope he's fine now.

well..i feel very comfortable with this new vet..hes not young, he has alot of experience with dogs, and his office is always packed, im sure if he suspects something major he will do whatever it takes. also, it doesn't make sense that he wouldn't recommend it seeing that he would also profit by referring me?? thats how i know hes not just in it for the business, but really cares about the DOG every time i go there he looks at cosmo for at least a half hour and then he doesn't even charge me for it. Im leaving it to him to tell me what steps to take..ive never trusted or felt this way about a vet before but i do with him, you can tell when he looks at cosmo he puts his heart into it and doesnt just rush through like hes just another dog.
