| There are always risks of side effects with any medication. The main side effect of Simplicef is vomiting. If your Yorkie has a staph infection he really needs some antibiotics. I would give him the Simplicef as prescribed by the vet but monitor him closely. I hope your baby gets to feeling better soon. |

| But, the size of the pill is for a large dog...80-100 pounds! Even if I cut it in half...it will still be suitable for 40-50 pound dog. Deucy is only 5#. I'm really concerned about giving him this. I do not want to lose him to anything..especially a medicine. The staph infection is around a small black area (looks like ground in dirt, but is NOT) he is rarely outside and only with me on a leash. He's had these little spots coming up on his belly for several months. I can scrape them off gently with my nail, but one of them left a scar. The Vet still can't tell me what these black spots are. Anybody????

| I just reread your post and I saw that the vet instructions said to cut in half so your are right that it seem like it would still be too strong. Maybe you could try cutting it into 4th and see how he does on that. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My older pom had that same type of skin areas, they could be peeled off with my nail and were a little oily feeling. she was diagnosed with staph infections and the meds would clear them up for awhile and then they would come back. She then was treated for Thyroid and Cushings disease. She is no longer being treated for either due to compications of the meds but she is on an antibiotic daily for her complcations and the spots never came back. If your vet hasn't already maybe blood work will help determine what it is from. Quote:

| 1800petmeds says the normal dose is between 2.3 and 4.5 mg per lb given once daily, so if this is right your dog should get between 11.5 and 22.5 mg. It may be safe with highter doses though. The pills come in 100 and 200 mg strength. Even if the vet gave you the 100 mg ones, that is 50 mg per day, which is over double what 1800petmeds says to give. I would call them.

| It is good you looked and caught the possible mistake I would call the vet. Just Monday my vet proscribed the wrong dose of pain meds for Lily so it can happen.

| The dose amount I got a second opinion today from another vet that I still don't trust and she said that 1/4 would be the amount I should give Duecy. I MAY try it tomorrow..THANK YOU for all of your replies and help.!!!!

| That sounds correct if they are 100 mg pills. If they 200 mg pills, I would still not give that much...
