Guess who's home?! The vet called me this morning and told me that Franklin was doing perfectly and that I could come get him later today! I was incredibly excited. I raced there right after class and now he's sitting at home, laying in my lap. It's so wonderful to have him back! I fed him earlier and he just gobbled it all up. I can imagine he's hungry. I would be too after not eating for a week. He's so skinny... I just want to let him eat everything he wants but I don't want to upset his tummy. I want to thank you all for your kind words and prayers. I never would have made it through this without your support. Now I have a question. I'm supposed to keep him away from the places he's been in the house.... but in our house, that's everywhere! I mean there's literally not a place he hasn't been. I did my best to bleach the playpen, crate, toys, bowls and such... but I have to buy him a new blanket and bed. The vet said carpet was fine (which.. it would have to be.. how to bleach carpet?). But I have to clean EVERYTHING ELSE? That's virtually impossible. I'm keeping him out of the tiled kitchen right now.. I haven't mopped it yet. What else do I need to do? Thanks again. Love, Diana.. AND FRANKLIN!! |
First off....YAY for Franklin's homecoming!!!!! :D Sooo happy he is alright! It sounds like you are taking all the appropriate measures to disinfect all areas of you home. I know what you mean by saying he has been everywhere in the house so I think you're doing a great job of cleaning all his personal stuff and mopping the floors. I would just go on a major spring cleaning effort and dust, mop, sweep, and disinfect everything. Good luck! |
Great new...I am so happy you have your baby back. I am not sure on the cleaning question but I wonder if Lysol or another disinfectant spray would be safe? |
YAY!!! Oh Diana i am SO happy for you and Franklin.. he must be SO happy to be back with his mom! spoil him up!! |
Aw.. he's curled up on my lap asleep. I guess the excitement of coming home sure wore him out. :) |
Yaaaa So happy he is home:) |

So happy to hear good news about Franklin! Keep up the good work little one! |
Thats great news!!!! YAy! Now...do we get to see "all better" pictures now :D |
4 Attachment(s) He just woke up from his nap.. now the little monster is running around eating everything he can! (Man, I've missed him :p) I'm afraid to feed him because I don't want to upset his tummy but I think eating everything off the floor (I've done my best to get it all clean) will upset his tummy even MORE! What to do? Here are some what I like to call "after-parvo" pics! PS. Now he's barking at me because I'm not paying attention to him. |
I am so glad he is home. I would just hold him and carry him everywhere with me:D He is so cute. I wonder if the spray disinfectants would be ok. That's the way I would go. |
Great news!!! |
Yeah!!!! So glad he's home and well again! |
Great News A Success Story Wow Im So Happy He Is Home Safe And Sound To Me I Would Do Some Hard Core Cleaning Raise Your Windows And Lysol Everything Of Course Continue Bleaching...but The Main Thing You Wanna Lysol Is The Bottom Of Your Shoes You Could Have It On Your Shoes! That Is How A Friend Of Mine Gave It To Her Baby She Stepped In Poop And Whamo Her Baby Had It But It Took A Week Incubation Period Before Any Signs.. Clean Clean Clean Girl Anything And Everything And Lysol Everything But Make Sure Franklin Is Not Breathing All The Chemicals You Are Using .. Raise Your Windows Hugs Im So Happy For You ! |
Welcome home Franklin!!!!! Make sure to clean his gate,if you havent already. I would get he baseboards too,Bleach!!! Bleach!!! everywhere until you can't think of anywhere else. Can't you wash his bedding with bleach? |
I'm going to bleach his blankets but they're both dirty so we have to buy him new ones. I bought him new water and food bowls. We threw away the cloth toys (except one... his favorite, I soaked it in bleach) and we bleached all of har toys. Everything he's around.. except the carpet and furniture, has been bleached. But we're not planning on bringing home a new puppy anytime soon so I'm not too incredibly worried about. Bleach unfortunately is the only thing that kills parvo. Any tips on what I should do to clean the furniture? I'm thinking about buying a spray bottle and keeping that on hand at all times but there are still some things that are not bleach safe like the couch... coffee table.. carpet.. |
HE IS SO cute!!! i am in love with him!! |
That is great news! |
Awww...he's so cute!! Look at those big soulful eyes!! I'm so glad he's doing better!! |
I am so glad he is home with his family! I would spray Lysol where i couldn't use bleach! I use it about everyother day anyway- i figure it can hurt! |
Hurrah We're so glad Franklin is better and home. What an ordeal for all of you. Bleach is the only thing that I know of that kills parvo. It sounds as though you have gotten to everything. I don't think Franklin can get it again, though, can he? At least that is wht we were told about Tootsie. Give him a big hug from us. Janelles |
He is a handsome little boy...I'm so happy he's home with mommy...have a great weekend |
So glad he is back home & doing so well. Get some sleep after your cleaning flurry |
So glad to hear Franklin is home and doing well. Give him a big hug for me. |

I am not sure what color your carpets are but if they are a lighter color you can put bleach in the water in your carpet cleaner and do your carpets that way. I would test a small section with the diluted strength and see if it discolors it. I was told to do that by my vet when a dog I had gotten from the shelter was sick. It worked really well for me. As for the hard surfaces just use diluted bleach water for that also. I would use papertowels and then throw them away. |
Okay so I think that I've been asking the wrong questions. I think what I've been TRYING to ask is... If I'm not planning on bringing home another puppy anytime soon.... (in fact, not even a puppy. When we move, we plan on rescuing an older dog)... What is the purpose of disinfecting my house? Is it to prevent Franklin from getting it again? CAN he get it again? Or am I just preventing the virus from being spread to other dogs? I mean I'm still planning on disinfecting everything but I'm kind of just wondering why I'm doing all of this. Maybe if I knew why I'd have more conviction to do? |
Okay...My Vet told me there was only ONE thing that would rid the home of parvo. BLEACH!!!!! he told me to get a shovle and take the mess and burry it some place they won't go (a field, neighbors yard etc) because after it disolves in the ground it is 4-5 years before the virus is gone from your yard. He also told me that if a baby survives parvo they will have a lifelong immunity to the virus. just going by what my vet told me. hope it helps some. |
Golly wolly i almost forgot the most important part!!!!!!! WELCOME HOME FRANKLIN!!!!!:D :D  :aimeeyork :animal-pa |

Here is a pretty good site:http://www.workingdogs.com/parvofaq.htm |
I would certainly take into consideration the people that might move into your apartment with a little dog...you would need to do it for them..if not Franklin |
