Tatum needs surgery..
 

I cannot believe it. I am just bawling my eyes out as I type this. We just got back form the vet with Tatum. She has a Luxating Patella in both back legs and needs surgery. She is a grade 3-4. :cry: Her Patella was all the way popped out on her back left leg. She has been limping on it and she hops like a bunny when she walks. I told this vet this, he checked her out and right away he knew :cry: I just cannot believe it. My baby girl needs surgery. I am just shaking and scared to death. Surgery on each leg is going to be $1200.00

We found out that she also has allergies and is now on 2 different meds. Hydroxyzine and Clavamox. She must be bathed with Oatmeal shampoo and she also has to have Fish Oil put on her food every day, and is on Glyco Flex 2 Glucosamine for her Luxating Patella and will have to take them for the rest of her life. They gave her a shot of something, god I don't even know what my mind is just spinning right now. They did a skin scraping and taping around her nose/mouth where she has been losing hair and she doesn't have any mites or anything, but she does have an infection. (alopecia and pruitis) whatever that is :cry:

I don't even know what else to type anymore. I am just shaking and crying and have a splitting headache from all the crying and my head is just spinning..

Now the allergies make sure shes not on any chicken or beef Once you get her off all that the allergies should go away unless its a environmental allergy

ok, try to relax.

She will be ok. LP - IMO should be done by an Certified Ortho Specialist. Our little ones have such little tiny legs, and once opened up you will need an expert (Ortho Specialist) in case any 'creative or artist' work needs to be done. After care is important and must be taken seriously, she'll need to be contained and limited for at least 8 weeks.

She probably has a staph infection (not as bad as you think, ok) - but this can happen as a result of the scratching, thus allowing bacteria into the area. You should wait until the infection has cleared before you do any type of surgery. Clavamox is for the infection. Just becareful b/c she can have a reaction to it. Roxy was on the same thing - for the same thing and on day 8 she had massive diarrhea. At that point, I should have stopped the antibs, but I didn't know that I could, I thought I had to finish until day 10. Well, big mistake, she had diarrhea for 2 WEEKS :(

The Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine, but this takes a while to build up in her system to work, so don't expect instance results.

All in all - she will be ok. I have gone through ALL of this - including the LP -

Oh my goodness, what sad news. I will be praying for Tat and hoping that the surgery goes well.

I am so sorry Brooke, poor tate I can't believe she has to go through this. She is a tough cookie... she'll get through this no problem.

Oh wow girl, I don't even know what to say. Poor Tator Tot. :( I can't imagine how your feeling right now. I remember you telling me she was limping awhile ago but I never dreamed it would be this bad. I am just so sorry. I don't even know what to say. Oh no!!! I am so sorry to hear this Brooke. When is her surgery going to be? There are several people her who have experienced this and a good friend of mine's pup had surgery this past fall.

Let's hope you can get her allergies under control by changing her food and shampoo.

omg..Brooke, i am sooooo sorry! We just found out recently that Tumi has LP too on both legs. She will need a surgery soon. I know exactly how you feel. I was crying when i heard it. knowing that we will do everything we can to help the little ones feel better will make it a little better. i can't believe we are going through the same thing. Hugs!! gosh, i don't even know what to say cuz i am in the same boat. My hubby has to keep me sane these days!

Also, the 'shaking' that you said she was doing today, that's the pain shinning though :( (poor little baby)

I am so sorry:( I know its hard right now but you have to think on the bright side, atleast its nothing fatal and she will be ok.It is alot to take in and I can understand why you feel so heartbroken...she is your baby but we will all be praying for you guys.

oh no Brooke, i'm so sorry. Try not to worry too much. Tate will do great i'm sure and be back to normal or even better a few months after surgery. I pm'd you. :) any questions please ask, i see this surgery performed multiple times a day.

So sorry to hear that little Tate has to have surgery. I have never heard anything but good about the results, though, so at least it is something that is treatable. We'll keep her in our thoughts and prayers.

Im speechless for you ... I know how much your baby means to you and we will go to the farthest extent to keep them perfect.... I am in that boat.. I am so sorry you are going through this... I know alot of people are praying for you and for Tatum. You have a awesome support system here.. I dont understand this LP stuff Bleu Boy has it grade 1 .. They told me that news on top of all the other surgery he just had... I was like oh thanks great.... Anyways you have been here for alot of us and now it is time for us to be there for you...
