thank you so much for the update! we are all praying for brooke and tate! |
Prayers for Tatum's body to recover from the allergy infection and prayers for Brooke to make the best decision she can about how to proceed. |
Brooke & Tatum, I'm still thinking of you both and sending prayers and positive thoughts, much love, Kez & Pixie xxx |
Oh no..... little Tater!!! Sorry to hear of all the troubles. Sounds like you are on the right track with the allergies...... Keep up the good work Brooke, you are doing exactly what Tate needs you to do...... she is getting good care!! (We used to have a dog that was allergic to grass, although she lived a long ...16yrs... life, it was something that we had to be careful with, but easily managed). One step at time girl...... get this allergy thing taken care of. Then you can schedule a consultation on her LP's. Keep us posted on Tate....... and give Steddy a big hug, too (he must be wonder what all the fuss is about.... they sense that stuff ya know). |
Brooke - I PM'd you. I'll be praying for little Tatum and for you. |
My prayers are with you and your sweet baby. |
Oooh, I am so sad to read this. I know exactly how you feel. When I first got Jazzie I took her to a vet for a check up. He told me then that she had luxating patella -4. I didn't want to believe it, when I called the breeder she told me " she'll grow out of it, as her legs gain strength" . I wanted to believe that so badly, I walked Jazzie twice a day. Months later I took her to the ortho vet, he told me the same exact thing, she needs surgery. My heart sunk to my feet, I was numb the rest of that day. I am sooo very sorry that your cutie pie needs surgery too, their legs are so tiny and fragile looking, you just don't want it to be. I pray that you find a good ortho vet and that he does a fantastic job. I am still looking for "the one" for Jazzie. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. ((Hugs)) kissies for baby Tatum. |
awww poor tator tot its soooo scarry to think of any of these dogs having surg but keep positave thoughts and you will all be in our prayers. |
Update.... Hey everyone...just wanted to pop in and do a little update on Tatum, although I don't know a whole lot more than I did the other day :( I want to apologize that it took me so long to do this. To be honest, I was just so upset when I got the news, and couldn't come back to this thread...and couldn't force myself to type anything. I guess I kind of just wanted to block it out all of my mind as best I could  I know that there are alot of little ones who have had this surgery, and the results were wonderful...but when it is your baby it is just very sad and very scary. Tatum has been through alot in her short life - maybe nothing life threatening, but still alot, and she just doesn't deserve this. As I have told a few people, I really do wish it were me instead of her.. For starters, we won't be scheduling any surgery until Tatum's infection is cleared up (around her mouth/nose area) - she is still on meds and will be for a couple more weeks. After she has finished all of her meds, she will go back to the vet for another check up. Once her infection is completely and totally gone, I will look further into the LP surgery. I have been in constant contact with her breeder and she had actually scheduled an appointment for Tatum to see her vet on the 6th, however, I had to cancel because Tatum just DOES NOT do well in the car, and that would have been a 14 hour trip total...it just wouldn't of worked. So, at this point, I am just trying to find someone whom I really trust to do this surgery on her. And I do want to get a second opinion...although I hold out no hope that the next vet will tell me anything different than the first  Her breeder wants me to have the surgery done at Texas A&M...so that is being taken into consideration, but I'm still not positive. She knows someone who's little Yorkie just had neck surgery there and it was a great success. I would like to go see an Ortho Specialist, I am just so worried because as I said, Tatum doesn't do well in the car, and if it is a couple hours away....well, I just don't know how I am going to pull that off with her. And then I worry that if she has the surgery in another town, that driving all the way home with her after surgery is just going to be a huge issue for her. I don't know...there is just still so much to figure out. So basically, that is all I know at this point (which I know isn't much). First things first - we've got to get this infection cleared up and under control. There is no way that I will put her through surgery with even the slightest infection - I just don't want to risk it, it's not worth it. Also...there are a couple of people I want to thank publicly. First is Denise, for always being there, and for all of her care and concern. She has e-mailed me to check on Tatum several times, and is just always there in general whenever I need her. Denise...you know how much I truly appreciate you girl. We love you guys so much and thank you for everything you do, and everything you have done. You are just like family and you mean the world to us. Secondly, I want to thank tumismom - I swear, you are the most caring person...and I know you just love my babies so much and I love you for that...it just warms my heart to know that someone out there TRULY cares for my babies, and has never even met them. It is just the best feeling. She sent us so much information, and also sent my babies 2 different kinds of dog food to try (by the way...I'll be PM'ing you about that 6 Fish - WOW!!) - she also sent them 3 toys (the Snoozy Dooz is just awesome!!) and a very sweet card...AND she ordered them a bottle of Salmon Oil and is having it shipped directly to me....I am just blown away. THANK YOU so much for everything...you just don't know how much it means to us... The kindness everyone here has showed us has just amazed me. All of your thoughts, prayers, concern and very sweet PM's are just beyond what I could of ever asked for. I honestly can't express into words how much it all means to me. You guys are just like family...and I love every single one of you dearly. I don't know what on earth I would do with YT and all of it's wonderful people...I am TRULY blessed. I thank each and every single one of you...and love you all dearly. I will continue to do updates as I find out more on this whole situation. My babies and I send our love to all of you and your beautiful babies :ghug: P.S. - I have received a TON of PM's...so please, please, PLEASE do not be upset or offended if I can't get back to each and every one of you personally. I was telling Denise how bad I felt about this, but she said that you guys would understand, and I truly hope you do :( Please know that I will read EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM...I just may not be able to respond to each one since there are so many, but I do appreciate them ALL..and again I thank you ALL from the bottom of my heart for all of your kind words, thoughts and prayers. |
your absolutely right about getting a second opinion. You should take her to an orthopedic surgeon to have it done. I would never let my regular vet do it, too many things can happen. I PM'd you but it might have gotten lost in all the others you received. I wanted to let you know that I work for an Orthopedic surgeon and if you have ANY questions no matter what they are please ask. Does tate get sick in the car? have you tried dromamine or you can ask your vet for Cerenia, its a med that helps with car sickness? Even if she gets upset in the car she should really see the Ortho surgeon. |
Oh, I'm so glad to hear from you!! I think about Tatum every day!! My poor sweet baby. I know you will do whatever is best for her. If I can do anything, please let me know. (hugs to all of you) Jeanne |
oh I am so sorry!! poor baby!! |
I am so sorry to hear about Tatum! Both of my girls do not like to ride in the car, Bailey likes to hideout under the seat  and Angel gets carsick. I have found that giving Angel a couple of drops of Rescue Remedy (holistic anxiety drops) a half hour before leaving in the car really helps calm her. I also put both in their kennel together when we travel with a comfy soft blanket and it really helps. (No, Bailey is not allowed to ride under the seat) Good luck in your search for the perfect doctor. Sending Prayers & Angels to Tatum & your family. |
I am glad to see you back!. Your little Tatum is one of the yorkies on here who captured my heart from the first pic I saw of her. Even though I am new here and dont know you well you have truly been on my mind and in my prayers everyday since reading your post. I will continue to pray for her and your family. Tatum and Stedman are both too cute for words and you have done an amazing job of sharing their personalities with your videos and pictures. |
glad for the update Brooke . . . just take it one day at a time and whatever decision you end up with, we know it is because you know what is best for the little angel . . . Annika and Tiger sends warm hugs :) |
Thanks for the update. Vicki (Bleu Boy Barber) has been at A&M with Bleu. He had surgery done on his neck there. She was VERY happy with A&M. You might want to talk to her. |

This just breaks my heart  We are not sure what she is allergic to - it could be any number of things...the hardest part is trying to figure it out :( I am switching her food and she also has to be bathed with a certain shampoo...we re-arranged everything moved the litter box into another room because we thought that maybe she could be allergic to that, and we have also gotten rid of the plastic food bowls that I just bought her a couple of weeks ago :( I ordered new ones online today. She is on meds now and hopefully it will get rid of her infection...I just hope I can keep her allergies at bay :( |
Sending prayers and postive healing thoughts from Virginia....for both of you. Actually maybe momma needs some extra. |

She is doing better and not going so crazy with the itching, thank God - that was just awful :( |

I did see your post in my other thread and thank you so much. I had actually ordered her some shampoo already before I got to read it...it is Doc Ackerman's Herbal Colloidal Oatmeal Shampoo and is supposed to be WONDERFUL. It has excellent, all natural ingredients in it which I just loved. I just got it in today and I will probably either be bathing her tomorrow (have to shampoo the carpets first and I'll see how I feel afterwords lol) or either this weekend. Hopefully we will have excellent results with it...I have high hopes :) |

I had to switch for both my son & Bailey. It really made a difference. There are several brands on the market now. I also switched her to Nature's Variety foods, they also come in grain free. It is hard to figure out what the trigger is, just a bit of trial & error. |

Right now I am trying them on Orijen 6 Fresh Fish with Sea Vegetables (as there is no meat) and they seem to absolutely LOVE it. Although it seems as though Orijen is having problems making the food now as there is a shortage of fresh fish in the US. They haven't announced yet if this is a temporary, or permanent thing, so I am kind of just waiting. If it turns out that they won't continue making the food, I think I am going to try the Nature's Variety Instinct as this is something that I can buy locally, and it also contains no grains and seems to have wonderful ingredients. |
I buy All hypoallergenic or Seventh generation. There are a few others I'll buy if they are on sale at the store. I have found I am sleeping better at night also without having fragranced sheets. |

I am finding as I am getting older  I am not able to tolerate scents like I used to. I am buying a lot more unscented items, my husband likes it better too! Keep us updated on Tatum, she is adorable! |
