awww Kiss her for me! |
Post op day 6 Yesterday was another day of only eating one small meal and no poop again. She slept well last night. This morning she got up and had some extra lean ground turkey burger with cheese and rice, had her pain pills in some cheese and went back to bed. Still no poop. She is drinking a bit better, she likes ice cold water from the cooler but won't but rarely drink from her water bottle. I hope I am not spoiling her too much. ;) If there is no poop by this afternoon, I am calling the vet. She has only had one good poop and one small one since she got home. I am cutting back her pain meds again today, will try to go 10-12 hours and see if that helps. She won't eat pumpkin I am sure so I can't try that. I will try to get her to eat some high fiber toast when I eat breakfast. Anyone got any other suggestions? I'm sure its a combo of not eating much, no activity and narcotics, but I still worry. Overall, she seems comfortable but like any post op patient she gets tired easily and sleeps a lot. That's the update for today. |

I'm so sorry about little Gracie. I'm just now seeing this thread and looking at her pictures broke my heart. Hugs to all of you and we hope Gracie is back to herself very soon. |
I am glad gracie is doing well today, still praying for her. |
I would cut out the cheese until she has a bowel movement. |
Glad Gracie is doing good today. When Katie had LP surgery she didn't have a bowel movement for four days after she come home. The vet said this is normal. It's because of all the meds she was given. Sending Gracie hugs! |
Post op day 7 Gracie had her LP surgery one week ago today. I could not have gotten through it without all of your help and support. Thanks so much for being here! I cut back her pain meds to every 12 hours yesterday. She seemed to do OK. She ate dinner last night for the first time since surgery, then had a small soft BM. I guess she was not constipated, just did not have enough in her. She had a restless night last night and has refused breakfast so far today. She was really uncomfortable this morning so I am going to give her three doses of pain meds today. I am hoping that she can get off the pain meds in a few days. |
Prayer's still coming Gracie's way for a speedy recovery. Give her a hug and kiss from us. |
I am glad she is doing well today, I hope her nights get better. |

Oooh my gosh, I have read every page with tears streaming down my face and my heart broken. What a brave little one, Gracie, I am sorry you are going through this and at the same time I admire how brave you are. Your mommy is an Angel. It hurts to see and read this because you are such a cutie at the same time I picture more clearly what awaits Jazzie in a few months. Thanks for sharing the progress. I look forward to hearing from you I think you said the 6th, the vet will take out the stitches and maybe Gracie won't have to wear the cast? I'll keep you all in my prayers, lots of luck, God bless you with patience and lift your heart when you feel overwhelmed. ((hugs)) :) |
i just want to prepare you for when they take those casts/bandages off. There may be quite a bit of bruising. As you know this was a major surgery for Gracie (and you) when they took my Samie's bandage off I cried so bad because I could only imagine the pain she felt those first few days right after surgery. Isn't it amazing the way her sister knows how to just be there for Gracie. You have wonder what their little minds are thinking. :-) We are still praying for you that the days go by fast and a speedy recovery is in store for Gracie and also you. It really does take an angel like yourself to give her the care she needs. You are an awesome mommy and don't think for a second that Gracie does not know this too with the way you are caring for her. Sadie and Samie says... "don't worry Gracie, you will be feeling better very soon!!! When you are all healed you will run and play with your new legs and feel soooooo much better! And mommy, you will just smile from ear to ear when you see how well little Gracie does. You will feel so good about what you did for this sweet little girl. we are sending lots of hugs your way. Renee, Sadie & Samie xxxxxxx..... :-) |

The hardest part will be keeping Gracie down once she begins to feel better that's for sure. You just have to keep telling yourself that you want her to heal. There is no way you would want them to go back and redo something if it does not heal properly. I kept telling myself that and I did everything in my power. Several nights of listening to Samie whimper when i had to put her in her playpen bc she just would not stop running through the house. And she also wanted out to run with her sister full speed in the back yard. I kept her on a leash and she was not used to that in the back yard. She was used to running free back there and I had to restrain her. We made her steps to get up onto the couch. ANd we are still careful with her. With Sadie my other dog there is no jumping on and off the couch as they did years ago. they are not 9 and 10 i say to myself- if i knew what i know now... there would have never been any jumping. Samies leg was weak and had level 2... i believe it was... but she suffered an injury (we think) My husband and i went home to Ohio to get married and when we came back samie had been limping. we had the neighbor come over to let them out while we were gone. the neighbor was great with my dogs. she is an older woman and she sometimes would just come over to just play with the dogs. :-) so i totally trusted her- which says a lot. bc i am a freak when i have to leave my girls alone. anyways- to this day when i am carrying samie into the living room to open the blinds - as soon as we approach the window -she gets very stiff and she acts very scared. These dogs do not forget a thing! and with that ...I KNOW that she fell off the couch while she had been sitting up in the window while we were gone. the vet said her ligament tear appeared to be as a result from an injury. we couldn't understand what could have happened to her?? Regardless -we never will know. i can tell you that she feels great today!!! We are now battling other issues with her such as liver and abnormal bat tests and collapsing trachea. but other than that she does wonderful on her new leg! Glad to hear Gracie is doing better!!! We will continue to follow this thread and wish Gracie a speedy recovery!! |
I was wondering if you had the link to the pics of your little girl you are talking about in this post. |
